SCVTalk.com Podcast #1 : Week in Review plus Laurie Ender Interview
Written by Jeff on March 3rd, 2008Details on Santa Clarita’s first independently produced news, opinion, and interview podcast after the jump.
I’ve wanted to create a podcast for quite awhile. It’s a big risk for me; it requires hours of preparation followed by hours of self-critique and loathing for my own voice. But I think it’s worth it, because this valley needs its own podcast covering important topics in a fresh and (mildly) entertaining format.
Of course it’s not the first podcast to talk about Santa Clarita; KHTS already posts podcasts of their radio shows, but it is the first, as far as I know, indepedently produced one. So with that out of the way, let’s talk about the podcast itself.
What is a podcast?
Simply put, a podcast is just a media file, typically an audio or video file, on a website. What’s so special about that? Well, it’s the casting part that’s important. A podcast is a media file that’s managed by an RSS feed; when you subscribe to said feed, new podcast episodes are automatically downloaded to your computer. If you have an iPod or Microsoft Zune, and you subscribe to the feed, the podcast will also automatically be placed on your iPod, allowing you to listen to the podcast whenever and wherever you have the time.
How do I subscribe or listen to the podcast?
It’s free and easy. Simply copy this link http://scvtalk.com/?feed=podcast to whatever podcast application you use. A good and free one is called Juice. This program will automatically download SCVTalk.com podcasts to your PC or Mac.
If you do have an iPod and use iTunes, you should be able to find the SCVTalk podcast by searching the iTunes podcast directory for Santa Clarita, Canyon Country, Newhall, Valencia or Saugus. If not, you can paste the link above into iTunes to subscribe. This method also works with the Microsoft Zune podcast directory.
If that’s all a bit too much or you don’t have an iPod, you can always listen to the Podcast through the SCVTalkcom website itself. Simply click the play button below or in the box on the right side of the homepage.

long one! Will listen immediately!
It’s not showing in the iTunes store yet, so in the meantime, iTunes users should go to the Advanced menu and choose “Subscribe to podcast…” and paste the feed address (http://scvtalk.com/?feed=podcast) and hit OK.

Yeah it did go much longer than I planned. To some extent, that’s just my inexperience doing something like this.
Thanks for the info on iTunes. As a Microsoft devotee, I don’t let iTunes within a hundred mouse clicks of my finely-tuned and powerful home-built PC, so I can’t actually test it.
My podcast does work beautifully, however, inside the Zune store.

I like the podcast. You may be too PC when selecting blogs you use in the podcast. Or perhaps I am too cynical.

The iTunes store takes a long time to register, but I’ll check from time to time.

Loved the podcast! Don’t worry about tightening it up. It seemed to me like it flew by! (Laurie Ender gives a great interview, by the way.)

Great first effort. Ender put forth an interesting case, but her glossing over of the hospital issue was really troubling. She mentioned “Beverly Hills Developer” as though the notion of G”L’s existence was a conspiracy theory and completely glossed over the issue of the lack of a requirement for hospital expansion. She didn’t even pretend to be concerned about that. That would put her closer to G&L’s position than any current council member and probably any serious candidate.
