Kellar to Amend Disclosure forms again, says “not aware” of real estate requirements

Tagged with a “For Immediate Release,” a statement from Mayor Bob Kellar regarding the fast-moving Form 700 story after the jump.

KELLAR’S STATEMENT REGARDING FPPC DISCLOSURE

Santa Clarita – Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar made the following statement regarding amending his Statement of Economic Interest Form 700s.

“Recently it was brought to my attention that I may not have fully disclosed all information on my Statement of Economic Interest Form 700s as it pertains to reporting real estate commissions that I received from my clients.

This was a requirement that I was not aware of. Obviously, with the sensitive nature of disclosing private citizen’s financial information, I wanted to ensure that this was in fact required before I amended my forms.

Over the past three weeks I have consulted with the California Fair Political Practices Commission, the California Association of Realtors and private attorneys as to the proper interpretation of the regulation.

Based on the information presented to me, it is clear that I will need to amend the forms and have begun to do so. I plan to submit my amended forms to the Santa Clarita City Clerk by Tuesday, March 25th.

It’s an honor to serve as this city’s mayor and I would never knowingly jeopardize the public’s trust in me. It is my hope that these steps today will resolve this issue so we can move forward to continue working to make Santa Clarita an even better place to live.”

Mayor Kellar isn’t the only one amending things that are already public record. This afternoon, The Signal has amended the story it published this morning on Mayor Kellar and possible penalties for his failure to complete the forms. The Signal pulled its original and printed story off its website earlier this morning. You can read the new, longer and revised story with a weaker headline here.

We should be happy after Kellar has amended the form, again, and correctly.
The information he provides may not make us happy. It is really too bad Mr. Kellar did not do the right thing without being pressured.

If you have followed Mr. Kellar’s words over they last month, you will see that he has been less than honest. He has applied the Bill Clinton school of what “is” is!

Ms. Geyer (TMS) deserves much credit for her work on this story. I bought the paper again today because of Katie.

Next comes the names. Will there be any names that have been before the council on matters where Kellar voted? If yes, then the delay looks very bad. If no, then I’d assume he was trying to do right by his clients.

Either way, this has been a fascinating story to follow. The game isn’t over, but I’d say early winners are Katie Geyer and Bruce McFarland, if he never found it, we wouldn’t have know and if she wouldn’t have kept at it, it would have been a story consigned to the internet. Early losers are KHTS, West Ranch Beacon for making a grandiose defense on the lesser charge.

Makes me think of the Lewinsky/Clinton episode… “That was NOT sex!”

Yeah, right… Politicians definitely get a certain amount of latitude when faced with questionable ethics.

Makes ME think of Eliot Spitzer/Alexandra Dupre episode.

Oh come on, it’s nothing like a sex scandal! That’s just silly.

Though a hired madame escorting someone on City Council would definitely be great to write about. ;)

In any event, I’m going to hang on Mayor Kellar’s every word on Tuesday night.

We should never under estimate the influence of the good ole boy network in this town. Including the people represented by KHTS, the Beacon, and several other special interest groups.

The linkage can be easily establish by spending a few minutes to identify the members of the various organizations in town. Be they the COC foundation, the Hart Foundation, the Chamber, the VIA, the City Council, planning commission, parks commission, open space oversight committee, the HMNH board, the Placeria homeowner association, the Sand Canyon homeowner association and the downtown redevelopment association, etc. Or one can just read the Elite magazine. In many cases if the husband is not on the committee, the wife is. In some cases both serve.
In the private sector this would be called nepotism and certain rules would apply.

I hope the Signal and McFarland stay the course. There is more to learn

I would like to see just plain Jack or Jill sponsored to serve throughout the City, but as long as the good ole boy network is at work, this is not likely to happen.

This is not the same as the Spitzer episode IMHO…

Clinton denied it for a very long time, dragging it through the courts and the media, claiming his innocence all the while. Spitzer owned up pretty quickly once he saw that his cover was blown.

Kellar is saying “I did nothing wrong” just as Clinton did.

    Cigar, anyone?

Be careful Linda. The cigar talk may cause/force Jeff to take drastic measures.

Another similarity with Kellar and Clinton, is the finger wagging! The Signal had a great picture of Kellar wagging that finger of defiance. Oh and Hilary finally disclosing her calendar reminds me of the Kellar move.
This thing has unfolded like the typical political bad deed!
Wilk has done a good job of coaching Kellar.

Did the Signal change Kellar’s quotes in the revised story? From “I slit my wrists…” to “I broke my neck…”?

    Very strange brand of journalism.
