Friday Daily Brief, come and get it!
News
- Hart to lay off 44 workers: The Hart District Board decided Wednesday night to “authorize the layoffs of 44 classified personnel, including 30 instructional assistants” as part of an effort to trim some $10 million in advance of a new, slimmer state budget. The instructional assistants at Hart help teach students, but they aren’t technically teachers, and in her article Sharon Cotal focused on how students would be impacted by the cuts. “My whole life has been with students. I’ve built close bonds with them, and I’m more than just an instructional assistant to them,” one assistant told The Signal.
- Rim of Valley Corridor study a go: The National Park service will study whether some 490,000 acres of land west of Santa Clarita should be included in a massively expanded Santa Monica Mountains National recreation area after President Bush signed a bill on Wednesday. Once completed, the study will go back to Congress, which would then enact the law and “prohibit development” in the areas. Land owner rights groups say their rights are jeopardized by the study. Daily News has a good article and a large map of the area.
- Code of Ethics & Conduct to be discussed at next City Council meeting: The City has released the agenda for Tuesday’s Council Meeting, and under the “New Business” heading are details on a Code of Ethics document City staff will present to the City Council. The staff reports that they have “researched existing ethics codes for a number of cities” and “reviewed examples of ethical codes that were provided by members of the community.” So what did they find? Generally, government agencies write codes that either express and promote certain ethical values (honesty etc) or they create “rules based codes” which specifically prohibit certain behaviors (bribery etc). After reviewing how other places do it, city staff has developed a proposed code of ethics which “seeks to capture, in one document, the City’s existing ethics standards and philosophies, which exist in a variety of locations and documents throughout the organization.” You can read the proposed Ethics Code here. Early reaction from activist Bruce McFarland, who has spoken before the city council on this matter several times: “There is no complaint process and no independent review process” in the code. More on this in the days ahead I’m sure.
- Smyth on state budget, “raiding” of local agencies: The first-term Assemblyman representing the SCV and Simi Valley talked at length with the Simi Valley Acorn about fiscal challenges at the state. The Acorn seemed particularly interested in whether California might dip “into the treasuries of financially healthy cities in order to balance state expenditures.” That’s not likely to happen, Smyth says. Smyth also talked a bit about the difficulty of deciding who gets cut in this budget-crunch climate: Every state program and departments “says the same thing: ‘We know there needs to be cuts, but here’s why you shouldn’t cut us.’ It’s very hard to place value judgments on all these legitimate and worthy organizations.” As the summer approaches, The former Santa Clarita City Councilman says the Democrats and Republicans will fight over a “very small pot of money” but that there might be some bipartisan cooperation. Link
- Businesses discuss affordable housing: The Signal says the Valley Industrial Association brought together some “40 builders, developers, political leaders, nonprofit sector representatives and city officials” to discuss ways to build “affordable housing” for workers in the Santa Clarita Valley. The imbalance between employee salaries and the cost of housing in Santa Clarita is so bad that employers are having difficulty attracting a “skilled workforce,” the CEO of VIA said. There’s no plans on the table now to build workforce housing; the meeting was more of a brainstorming session, but a “task force” might be forthcoming. Tammy Marashlian reports in today’s Signal.
- Mortgage bill passed by House, McKeon doesn’t like it: The $300 billion bill would underwrite new loans to “keep an estimated 500,000 homeowners out of foreclosure,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The bill, which passed the house 266-154 and is under threat of veto by President Bush, would also remove a “key obstacle that has prevented many homeowners from refinancing.” The Signal got in on the reporting of the bill and talked with Congressman Buck McKeon about it. McKeon told the paper that he has “real concerns” about the bill, noting that it “puts up $300 billion to help the 10 percent of people who are behind on mortgage payments versus the 90 percent of people that are making their payments on time.” The Times notes that the Republican party itself is divided over how to respond to the mortgage/foreclosure crisis. Misc:
- Explore the universe this weekend from right here in the SCV:Tomorrow is Astronomy Day, and the competent, helpful and super-smart guys with the Local Group astronomy club will host several activities at the Valencia Library tomorrow. From 1pm to 5pm, you’ll be able to safely look at the Sun through a telescope. You can also take your kids on a tour of a scale-model solar system. Later in the evening, telescopes will be set up in the library’s parking lot to view the heavens. If you haven’t been to an event hosted by the Local Group, I highly recommend you go. It’s not only free, but it’s highly entertaining and educational. You should hear the gasps and “Ohmigosh” sentiments expressed when people see the moon or Jupiter or Saturn for the first time through a telescope. It’s a transcendent experience for many. Link
- Tejon Ranch plan “onerous back-room deal”: So says a columnist in the San Bernardino Sun, who claims that the media isn’t reporting what it should about the plan that would build some 26,000 houses north of Santa Clarita but also preserver hundreds of thousands of acres of land in the historic Tejon Ranch. “Oh, we’ll all be told it’s the right thing to do and all of the slick magazines these environmental groups send out will have big stories with lots of beautiful pictures of the Tejon and its wildlife and how it’s been preserved for future generations.I’m here to tell you that’s rubbish. They’ve been bought off and we’ve been sold out.” Link
- Fillmore fish hatchery: I found this Ventura county realtor blog post kind-of interesting. It’s about the Fillmore fish hatchery, located on Highway 126 just outside the SCV.
- Get notified of city emergencies on your iPhone, VOIP system: The City has had an emergency alert system for land-line telephones for awhile, but now it’s got an opt-in website that allows you to input your name and cell phone number so that you can receive city emergency and disaster notices. I think this could be really useful in the event of a large emergency (think the October 2007 fires) but in a quake, your land-line phone is likely to work while your VOIP or cell phone will probably be offline. Anyway, the city has a helpful disclaimer for those who might be indecisive in a disaster scenario: “YOU SHOULD NOT WAIT FOR OR RELY EXCUSIVELY ON A MASS NOTIFICATION SYSTEM CALL FOR EVACUATION DIRECTIVES IF YOU THINK YOU ARE IN DANGER. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE IN DANGER, YOU SHOULD EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.” OMG THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH LOLZ
- Last weekend to get your bike ready for Bike-to-work-week:Biking to work is fun, healthy, enjoyable, cheap, and relatively easy. Consider yourself nagged. Next week is Bike to work week (and Thursdayis officially bike to work day) so you have one weekend to get your old ten-speed ready for the challenge. I’ve been evangelizing the bike commuter gospel here on SCVTalk and in real life for awhile now, and so far, I’ve convinced a few people to give it a shot. So should you!

“Hart to lay off 44 workers:”
Oh ya, things are great! To those that have their head in the sand, that is!
It’s common knowledge that today’s educational institutions are burdened with ridiculously high overhead, such as too many non-teachers on the payroll, tenured professors, and an unecessary teachers union that removes dollars from the pockets of teachers - including those teachers who don’t even want the union. Furthermore, the State of California spends incredible amounts of $$’s frivolously - including expenditures for illegal aliens. Hence, our budget crunch.
So Cash, what is your answer to these dilemmas?
“including expenditures for illegal aliens.”
Send them home and enforce the laws they are the largest drain on our general society. This includes jail time for the fat cat’s that hire them. You know who the fat cats are, they are your conservative business owns that use the government for their own personal wealth building. This town is full of them, look around. Check out the 16 million dollar transit system and see who we are hauling around! By the way, what state do you live! Is it the same one that has the republican governor that, in part, has created the budget crisis. And I am a registered republican so don’t go partisan on me!
Check out the 16 million dollar transit system and see who we are hauling around!
I use Santa Clarita Transit all the time and so do many others, not just Latinos. Students in the SCV are always on it, and business commuters with jobs in LA use the commuter buses so much that the city is purchasing two new ones.
No transit system in the world operates at a profit, nor should it be expected to.
“17. Compliance
Any persons who believe that a City official, employee, or volunteer has violated this
Code of Ethics and Conduct shall report the allegation to the proper agency.”
And who would that ‘agency’ be?
“There is no complaint process and no independent review process” in the code.
Bruce is right! There should be an independent review process. Otherwise this is just a bunch of ‘lip-service’. If we want our city staff and council to be held accountable, then a ‘complaint process’ and the information needed for that process needs to be provided in the code.
Yes it is important to point out that school busses for the most part, don’t exist anymore. My son’s school has one for kids in far flung areas, but it’s limited to that.
10 percent of people behind on payments is a big deal, enough to drive a crisis, thus the aid, so that we may stem the crisis.
Slow news day.
Jeff. I have asked for and received the performance elements the city uses to measure our transit system. The truth is that it is far more subsidized than any of the transit systems that the city uses for comparison. I am talking about the City transit, not the buses that haul workers to LA. The buses are underutilized and there are far to many scheduled routes. I have no problem using the system to take kids to school. But driving Pedro, etc. to and from is job at the local business, is a taxpayer burden that is flat wrong. The VIA is all for expanding the transit system, because they get their low paid workers delivered to their business front door. Now they are lobbying for low rent housing! They should be so concerned about the legal seniors that have worked their bodies to weakness in order to make a living and support our country. Many of them can’t afford to leave here either. Next time your riding the bus, why don’t you put a little extra far money in the container! I know you are not a freeloader, but give it a try.
But driving Pedro, etc. to and from is job at the local business, is a taxpayer burden that is flat wrong. The VIA is all for expanding the transit system, because they get their low paid workers delivered to their business front door.
That’s precisely the job of a transit system. To not do so would be flat wrong.
Besides, who’s going to wash your car if we don’t provide a way for workers to get from point A to point B?
I guess you simply don’t care.
In Cash’s SCV everyone is wealthy and drives an SUV and lives in a 3,000 sq. ft. house.
Must be nice to live there.
Next time your riding the bus, why don’t you put a little extra far money in the container! I know you are not a freeloader, but give it a try.
Next time you drive your car and want to bitch about traffic on this website, remind me to slap you with a wet fish, because if you’re not riding transit or finding other ways to get around town, you’re the problem, not me or pedro or others.
Cash,
This countries fat-cat greedy elite is equally populated with Hard Core Democrats. This myth that it’s conservatives who perpetrate greedy injustices is false. Greed is an equal opportunity character flaw.
I have to agree with you about the rapid transit system!
CIB Bill,
Once again you hit it on the head. Good going. Very well said!!
Jeff,
Are you interested in pushing for more bike lanes around the Newhall, Valencia area? There is plenty of room for more and wtpscv would advocate for that.
“Besides, who’s going to wash your car if we don’t provide a way for workers to get from point A to point B?”
The same type of individuals that washed it before Pedro was allowed to flood this country.
“That’s precisely the job of a transit system. To not do so would be flat wrong”.
The transit systems was not intended to haul Pedro and his ten
kids around for near free!
“Next time you drive your car and want to bitch about traffic on this website”,
I pay taxes, lots of taxes, to be sure the infrastructure is maintained, not to haul Pedro around town via a nearly free bus service. The system could be more efficient, and we should demand that it be. I have looked at the facts, you’re judgement is based on emotion. Once again, drop a few extra coins in the slot next time you ride the bus. By the way, if you want me to pay you a little something for the good work you do in preparing this blog each day, let me know where to send the money. I will gladly do so.
“This countries fat-cat greedy elite is equally populated with Hard Core Democrats. This myth that it’s conservatives who perpetrate greedy injustices is false. Greed is an equal opportunity character flaw”.
My 40 years experience in the corporate world gives me a much different opinion that yours. The Board room has far more conservative republicans than Democrat’s. I fact, board room jokes about a democrat affiliation was not uncommon. Not right, but true.
It’s a bit feisty in here today.
Look, can’t we all be a little bit green?
Not GreenPeace/Sierra Club green. I mean a little guacamole or saige.
It’s a bit feisty in here today.
Ain’t it fun!!!!!!!!!
WethepeopleSCV, hang tough my man. Anyone who believes the hiring illegals is done strictly by conservatives are not thinking clearly. Again, it’s common knowledge that Tha Govinator is a RINO and he’s not, along with the idiot Mayors of L.A. & San Fran are not pushing enforcement of existing illegal immigration laws. Thus, we have a huge budget problem. Once again, do-gooder liberals hurt human beings (44 Hart employees are laid off) rather than help human beings.
As for morons who bought houses they can’t afford, they made their bed…
As a high schooler, I worked weekends at our local carwash; that option is impossible today thanks to illegal immigration.
Wow Cash, would you like Pedro to ride at the back of the bus as well?
Jeff used to have a donate link. If he brought it back, I’d click on it again. Since he put ads on the site he stopped asking for money, but I think he deserves more scratch than that.
Once again, do-gooder liberals hurt human beings (44 Hart employees are laid off) rather than help human beings.
uh-huh.
Go away troll.
Cash, you strike me as a Ron Paul guy. Am I close?
Your right though, we have a serious pay out in our infrastructure for non citizens who are not part of our fiscal tax base. We’re compassionating our rightful citizenship right into financial ruin. It doesn’t mean that other human beings aren’t special and important to the planet but in a country where legal tax contributions pay for making our society livable and balanced, it’s time to stop paying for the untaxed non-citizen freeloading. No person can refute that.
Non citizen social service payout was 14 billion dollars last year in the state of California. Hmm… we also have a 14 billion dollar budget short fall that has effected every segment of our public service sectors. Regardless of party, this is not how we govern ourselves. Having our boarders and laws is how we organize ourselves for success and quality of life.
So taking Pedro to work is OK if he’s legal, traceable, taxable, and accountable to sustain our viability as a great city and country.
If he isn’t then we are throwing hard earned, worthy, social sustenance away from the worthy who deserve it- to those who have disrespected the privilege of being in America.
IT’s NOT A HUMAN RIGHT TO BE AMERICAN. IT’S A PRIVILEGE TO THOSE WHO OBTAIN IT PROPERLY. NOT POUNDING SAND IN THE ARIZONA DESERT.
Every sole is valuable and I believe that to my core. I also believe in rules that make governing possible.
cash, if you don’t like the Latinos in this town, wait till you see some of the stories I’m working on that take a look at life in the SCV from their perspective.
They are guaranteed to make you apoplectic.
That wasn’t my goal when I set out to write them, but knowing that it will piss you and CIB bill off, I’m can’t wait to post them.
Goin’ away would not be prudent. Dissenting views sure are a bummer, huh. So once again, here we have another liberal tryin’ to squelch freedom of speech.
Troll… hmmm, I like the ring of that. Thanks!
Hart District is run by an elected board of Republicans.
What makes Arnold a non-RINO?
Sterling, $100 for you, no strings attached if you can find a credible study published in the last five years showing parity of party ID among those making over $100,000 per year. Anything when Dem party ID is within a margin of error of 3.5%
Some of my best buddies are hispanic so I have no problem whatsover with Hispanic folks. I do have a problem that so many come here illegally and that so much of our tax dollars are spent on them. So, don’t try making this a race issue - I know how you liberals operate, i.e., Bubba Clinton, Jeremiah Wright, etc.
I would be interested in your stories. It doesn’t change the above mentions principles I’ve laid out, however, they do have an incredible perspective on life and dreams of success. It’s to bad that so many with that dream have self exported themselves out of the country they should be reforming.
I look forward to reading them.
“Cash, you strike me as a Ron Paul guy. Am I close?”
Not really a Ron Paul guy, but I do agree with much of what he says. I only wish he could communicate is views without sounding like a nut!
“cash, if you don’t like the Latinos in this town, wait till you see some of the stories I’m working on that take a look at life in the SCV from their perspective.”
Sorry Jeff, but I can’t let you put words in my mouth. I made no mention of Latinos. I have no interest in hearing about SCV from the Illegals perspective. The need to be bitching about their own country.
“Wow Cash, would you like Pedro to ride at the back of the bus as well?”
Pedro, the illegal, has no rights to ride the bus at my expense. He need not be on the bus at all, unless it is the bus that takes him back to his own country! Which is done at my expense as well.
“As a high schooler, I worked weekends at our local carwash; that option is impossible today thanks to illegal immigration.”
With the expectations we put on our ‘well taken care of children’ and the expecatations they’ve learned to, well, expect, there is no way our ‘legal’ children would work at a carwash in today’s society. Besides, with the salary ‘Pedro’ is making, the carwash would be out of business because our children would expect more for their HARD WORK! The business is benefiting from the people who they choose to employ and the salary they are willing to take for that job.
Just take a look at the employment rate in regards to those jobs that entail ‘manual labor’, ie, carwash, bus boys, dishwashers, maids, the hotel industry and so on.
The problem with Illegal Immagration didn’t JUST happen. It’s been neglected for a long time. The laws that have been in place, have not been acted upon for years. I blame those companies and industries that are trying to save a buck and make a higher revenue in order to ‘pad’ their own pockets. I do blame the ‘politicians’ who have turned the other way and perhaps have benefited from that revenue. I blame us ‘parents’ for not teaching our kids the concept of hard work. Their is blame enough for us all regarding this subject, but I certainly do not blame PEDRO!
lvogal,
Your right that we’ve ignored the issue for to long. Until 4 years ago it was off the radar. Finding our equilibrium again will be painful that’s for sure. The pain shouldn’t be placed upon citizens though as much a non-citizens. It’s complicated for sure, I agree.
Mike,
So you want me to show that dems don’t make as much $ as republicans? Wow, that’s like saying men get payed more then woman or African Americans are discriminated against. Or it may show to much about how party philosophy impedes work performance leading to financial disadvantages over conservatives.
That study would be hard to find being that it would convict a party with an oppressive inferior label. That isn’t true at all. Look at every representative in our House and Senate and you find equally that dems are as independently wealthy as Rep’s
“Some of my best buddies are hispanic…..”
I always worry when I here someone start a sentence like this. Wink, Wink……..
“Just take a look at the employment rate in regards to those jobs that entail ‘manual labor’, ie, carwash, bus boys, dishwashers, maids, the hotel industry and so on”
You have left the list far from complete. Illegals have taken jobs at the skilled and non skilled level. The home building industry, and all associated aspects, is very much a heaven for illegals. These were once very good paying jobs, mostly filled by legal Americans able to make a decent living without a college education. There are many other, good jobs once filled by legal Americans, that belong on your list. Pedro is breaking the law, and I blame him and his employer. By the way, the jobs you did list were once filled by legal Americans.
The argument that the work won’t get done without illegals is bogus. In-N-Out burger is a good example of how the work can be done.
Ivogel, I don’t really care what you think about me or my buddies.
Expectations on our children…
Truly, too many parents do not teach the work ethic in today’s society. However, that does not apply to all people. Many people I know including myself, my wife and both of our children learned to work at an early age. Both of my kids have well paying jobs, live in their own homes, etc. How many liberals do you know that allow their kids to goof off, get tattoos, dress like whores and then they are shocked that the kids become irresponsible adults.
I don’t blame “Illegal Pedro” either - I just don’t want him here as an illegal and I don’t want our tax dollars spent on him or his family.
Here is a challenge to all of Jeff’s readers.
Before everyone comes to the big neighborhood meeting in Newhall about the Avenue development on the Mule ranch. http://www.wethepeoplescv.com/ I challenge everyone to take a bucket, water, minimal soap, sponge, and your hose and wash your cars. It’s a lost art these days. I promise you will find a new sense of purpose and get a little exorcise at the same time. (don’t forget your sun screen as to prohibit sun burn)
The feeling of accomplishment is worth every penny you would have payed Lyons care wash. I do it twice a month. I use gallons less water the car wash would use, thus, saving our water supply.
Jeff, that’s a good idea. You should promote a “Wash Your Own Car” day once a month. (I don’t charge for my ideas)
In-N-Out burger is a good example of how the work can be done.
Your absolutely right, Cash. There are companies out there that hire ‘legally’ and ONLY legally. However, there are far too many that dont. As far as OUR children are concerned, which I think I was trying to make a point about: We encourage our children to be the best! We expect them to have the highest goals. We send them to college to work for those companies that want well educated individuals. Every dream of a parent for their children (yes, even illegals) is for their children to go to college. Something a lot of us never were able to do. We want our kids to have better then we did. There is no way that I could hand my neighbors 16 year old son a toilet brush and offer them a job to scrub my toilet, that he’d do it! Personally, I would work at ANYTHING (if I had to) in order to support my family. If I didn’t have the job that paid the bills, I’d work two!
By the way,
I wish a happy Mothers Day to you moms. I’m spending the day with my mother in Laguna Niguel. After 2 bouts with Brest cancer and one heart scare I’m blessed to have my mom (and dad) here. You moms bare the brunt end (but more capable end) of making us good kids and adults. Thanks for who you are and what you do as mothers. Have a nice Sunday.
Sterling, you’re not making any sense:
“That study would be hard to find being that it would convict a party with an oppressive inferior label. That isn’t true at all. Look at every representative in our House and Senate and you find equally that dems are as independently wealthy as Rep’s”
Something scientific, please… you know, actual facts. As an incentive, I think I may have found some things that back up you initial statement, but I won’t earn the money for you!
I’m a hand-wash type too, but don’t wash my car that often. I must say though, the new drive-thru wash at the Auto Spa on Valencia is one great show.
“I wish a happy Mothers Day to you moms.”
WethepeopleSCV on May 9th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Ditto! Where would we be without the mothers?! I for one miss mine very much, but the lessons she taught aren’t; they will remain with me till it’s my time to live this wonderful place.
Thanks mom!
lvogel…
I get your point. I had many character building jobs when I was a teen. Including shoveling chicken manure on a chicken ranch, working in a service station, etc.
These experiences have paid many dividends in my adult life. At an early age I learned the meaning of hard/dirty work and why I needed to work hard to better myself. Too many kids these days think they deserve the good life without having to pay their dues. Washing a dish or two and waiting tables would hurt none of them. Having a good education, via school, is only one part of the success equation!
Mike, I’ll work on that. I didn’t mean to be antagonistic over it so when I have the time I’ll unveil the truth.
My dad took apart a bike tier pump and took the rod, with the wooden handle, attached a cord to it and we would stick it in the ground, electrocuting a 3 foot radius forcing the night-crawlers out of the ground. I would collect worms and sell them at 5:00 in the morning to local fisherman for $.50 a dozen. I learned to provide myself with a job, make my own money, and pay for all the trouble I got into otherwise as a little kid. Point being, my parents taught that work ethic and self reliance we seem to have lost these days. My other brothers mowed lawns all over the neighborhood and their throwing arms were strengthened buy throwing papers on paper routs.
Where did that mentality go?
sorry I meant “by throwing papers” not buy. Ya, typing to fast.
“Where did that mentality go?”
I think we all want better for our kids, but we may have forgotten what better means. I think I let the “Jones” cloud my thinking. I take the blame for not giving my children a balanced foundation. But I am still very proud of them!
Yup, been there WethepropleSCV! Because of my grandmothers hatred of weeds, I became one hell of a ‘weed picker’. Soon neighbors learned how well I did that job and hired me for anywhere from .50 to 1.00 an hour to pick their weeds. I hate weeds to this day and thankfully I can now hire someone to ‘pick’ them for me. I used to pay my own kids as part of their allowance, but they’ve moved on to better paying jobs so I hire someone else to do it. Let’s just say it’s not my neighbors kid.
I think there may be a great opportunity for a young English speaking, enterprising young man, with a nice pick up truck, to make a few bucks. I think I can out do some of you and your work history! I delivered the Sunday Times, by walking and pulling the little red wagon down the street singing, not well I must add, “Times paaaper, get your Times paaaper”! I had some regular customers, but picked up a few more by singing the theme and drawing people from their homes. The paper was 15 cents. I was in 4th grade. Life was grand!
It’s great to see that we’re all coming together on work ethics for young folks… now if we all could just agree that illegals are a huge problem for our society.
now if we all could just agree that illegals are a huge problem for our society.
Totally agree! Those that would disagree do not read the papers or listen to the news. Not to mention having to take a trip to any hospital emergency room. Frankly, I am angry about the conditions they are creating.
Someone should write a book or Article about the childhood jobs of the past that build the character of todays adults. Contrast that to the life lessons being missed by todays youth who think everything is either free or someone else’s job, and the after effects it causes.
WethePeopleSCV
Totally agree that the ‘illegal’ problem is a huge one for our society. However, if I was a person in another country (okay, Mexico!) who wanted a better life for my family and I found a way to do that here in this great country, I’d do it. Problem is that some people of this great country have allowed it to occur and get to where it is today! Greed on the corporations part?, perhaps. Politics in the hands of the wrong people?, perhaps. There seem to be so many laws in place today to protect ANYONE, that finding those illegals and putting them on a bus back to their own country, just won’t work. There will be some sort of law that won’t allow the U.S.A. to treat another person like that……just guessing here, but that’s what it seems like anyway!
Okay, absent “The Blogger” it appears we’re in agreement (albeit Ivogle’s nuanced response) that illegal immigration is a huge problem for our society. So, I have another quick question: which political party seems to make it easier for illegals to receive services in California? Just a simple answer please.
trolls, ugh
Okay, we have one answer already:
Trolls, ugh. Definition: Democrat Party
Hey, nothing’s stopping the “non-Pedros” from standing out in front of the local hardware store to get construction work. I’d venture to guess they’d get picked up first.
congratulations, go home and tell your mom what you did today
“Hey, nothing’s stopping the “non-Pedros” from standing out in front of the local hardware store to get construction work. I’d venture to guess they’d get picked up first.”
Yes there is and it is called a fair wage. There are plenty of Union Halls for that purpose. I am not a Union supporter, but I would rather see union members get the work than Pedro.
Home prices went through the roof and the greedy developers still paid sub-standard wages to build them.
Using the term troll as a response in my book means:
Troll = cop out!
Troll= topic to controversial for me
Troll= I want to hide
Very commendable observations, Cash.
Uh oh, Mike “Tha Cop Out” left off the period on his last sentence. Ha!
using the term troll means someone i on the board looking for trouble. I can argue circles around anyone who’s argument begins and ends with “B.Hussein” or Algore. I love controversy, just in its proper context. This isn’t a place for general Republican vs. Democratic matching games. There are literally tens of thousands of places on the internet where such banter is welcomed, even the SCVtalk forums (link at the top of the page).
Bill hasn’t said a single noteworthy thing on this site yet, just juvenile yelps like someone who just discovered Sean Hannity and needs to tell the world how nasty liberals are. Keep it to yourself man, no one here cares to hear it.
You’re funny Mike. Consider yourself hooked by a troll! Additionally, I do not think it is your place to decide what is posted here. Name calling doesn’t help, a simple no comment might be an acceptable response. The word troll in and of itself seems like a juvenile term. Aren’t Trolls those little fuzzy characters that Pedro has hanging from every corner of is beater?
I can argue circles around anyone…
I love controversy, just in its proper context…
Haha! That’s rich stuff comin’ from a liberal who can’t debate himself out of a paper bag.
We’re in the middle of a mighty significant election season & I see nothing more important than discussing the issues of the day. If Mike can’t hang with the big boys, he can hit the road. Meanwhile, this Troll is goin’ nowhere.
LOL CIB Bill, thanks for taking care of business.
Thanks, WethepeopleSCV! I just may see you tomorrow.
Mike, for the record, I AM BILL. You were referring to CIB Bill. I have enough to be responsible for what I say much less someone els. lol PLEASE help me out there… I must say the fur been a flyen today! If nothing els it has been entertaining. Some good points and some bull #**@. Perhaps we need to do what they are doing in Arizona. If a business is using undocumented workers and gets caught (I forget how many times) they pull their business license and shut them down. It is my understanding that undocumented workers are leaving the State in droves. The question is “do we have the will to do that?”
Bill, my apologies, I know the feeling, me and cash share a name too.
CIB Bill, you always manage a pitch-perfect imitation of the sort of person I imagine you to do be. Thank you for confirming my suspicions. This isn’t
Cash, fair enough, I was caught in a troll trap. I’ll tread more carefully. I used to think you were a troll, now GOB is a part of my vocabulary, so there might be hope. I’m not deciding what’s posted here, but know the difference between a productive day of Daily Brief talk versus a ridiculous one and there is typically one common element. I’m just pointing it out.

Whoa! More deep thoughts, from Mike “Tha Cop Out”. Clearly, lofty debates such as where to dine on fine tacos fits his comfort zone.
Uh oh, Mike “Tha Cop Out” forgot to finish a sentence. Ha!
This isn’t a place of lofty debate necessarily, just a place where your childish nonsense is out of place. I’d be glad to talk tacos any time it comes up. Maybe your “hispanic buddies” can point you in the right direction. It is SCVtalk and in the SCV we do have some pretty good tacos.
If John McCain or Barack Obama visits Santa Clarita, they would make a great topic for discussion. My beef with your conduct is your constant use of non-sequiturs meant to stir up trouble. This adds nothing to the discussion.
I suspect CIBBill is a wayward poster from the forum who was banned but has found a way in to SCV Talk. That particular poster does not even live in the SCV. The best way to deal with a troll is to ignore them. When they aren’t fed, they leave.
ReaderMama; the best way for this blog to fail is to continue wasting ink on subjects like Taco’s. If you have not noticed, Jeff’s prelude to his daily post, is generally filled with comments intended to spark controversy. Is Jeff the real troll here? I think not! He just knows what will bring comments to his blog. Today’s count of 62 seems to be a high point.
Jeff, with 64 comments, this being 65, there is no way SCV Talk has “Jumped the Shark” . Only concern is some of the comments seem to be a little personal and not directed to the issue as it should be. I hope everyone will get back to the higher road and keep their comments directed at the issue and not the person.
Cash: There is a difference between sparking controversy or spirited debate and launching personal attacks on fellow posters. More than one board has failed in this town due to personally directed nasty partisan divisiveness.
Some thrive on personal conflict and not debate. The poster I spoke of was so angry at being banned (for repeatedly and deliberately breaking forum rules) that he went to a large well known conservative forum and asked them to inundate Jeff’s forum with negative posts.
We were all pleasantly surprised when that did not occur, but nonetheless, that is the level of behavior you are dealing with in a troll.
I have the utmost respect for Jeff. He is hardworking, patient and fair. He will handle the issue, I’m sure.
Jeff does a good job and we all should have gratitude for that.
I agree, WethepeopleSCV. Jeff’s blog generates much discussion which I enjoy very much. Who ever started calling people trolls, well that was pretty much unnecessary. I thought CIB Bill’s comments solicited interesting rebuttals and as such, pretty much outed certain folks who really cannot handle dealing with facts.
If this blog was intended to be “light weight” conversation then those who post real world notions should probably be blocked from posting such relevancy.
Some on this board are too sensitive. I have not read a post where an attack was attended to be harmful in nature. When it come to politics, direct attacks are political, they are not personal.
I understand the difference, and think most people do.
We can continue to type about Tacos if you like, but the board dies in a month!
Once again, Jeff seeds his “Daily Brief” to create the right amount of tension!
This is not a boring Blog, with no spirit! Nor should it be edited to mute how people feel. The Signal has finally started to move away from that type of reporting and I hope this blog promotes the passion many feel.
Some of us are more direct in the way we communicate, and we may lack the Obama speaking skills, but we speak up all the same.
Yes, Jeff does a great job! I look forward to the “Daily Brief” and seldom view the Signal site.
Spell check failed me. Sorry!
Right on, Cash. It certainly would be shameful if certain people were blocked from posting comments. If this site is diminshed down to taco talk, it’s doomed.
This Site has been awesome & the recent political banter has been most interesting! Is anyone actually suggesting that our Blog Master would actually ban someone from posting comments?
