One final word…errr image…from the whole mess that was the Decoro Bike Lane issue:
That’s conservative blogger and below-the-knee amputee Kevin Korenthal* riding with me up Decoro on Friday on the new bike lane, a bike lane which was saved through a compromise with motorists at last week’s neighborhood meeting.
Truly I say unto you: if a guy like Kevin and I can get along through the power of bicycles on a disputed bike lane of all places, perhaps there’s hope for all of us. Thank you to the Northbridge neighborhood for letting us keep our bike lane; my wife and I rode it this weekend and had a jolly good time. I even broke the speed limit on the way down the hill (42mph!) which is doubly ironic given how many people complained about speeding cars & “bikers” at the meeting.
* BTW, I’ll be riding 100 miles with Kevin at the November Challenged Athlete’s Foundation Solvang Century. Details forthcoming on how you can support our brave attempt at bipartisan bicycling!

Sometimes when we get out of the spin zone we find that we have more in common than we thought possible.
Great image Jeff, it shows just how stupid and unsafe the crossover lanes are. These crossover lanes are going to result in someone being seriously injured. Both physically and financially. The layout reminds me of the term Chinese Fire Drill!
Kevin is a Mensch !
Cash:
Since everyone was complaining about these crossover bike lanes, I decided to look them up. The bike lanes are designed according to the State’s Highway Design Manual: Chapter 1000. There is a diagram showing bike lane on the left of the right turn lane. So it appears that the design is the state-approved design and not something the city engineers made up.
