“long, hard look” Yes, I DID giggle.

    Welcome back!

  2. Money says:

    Yes!!! The DB is back!

  3. CC says:

Glad the Daily brief is back. Some of your links will have to wait until I am home as they are blocked here at work.

The opt out for Obama’s speech is just plain silly in my opinion. Seriously folks.

I wish a swarm o people took the junk left over at my last garage sale to spare me a trip to Goodwill.

I’ll be checking out the City Council tonight. I can’t tape it anymore because U-Verse has it on a government access channel that doesn’t tape.

  4. Petz2 says:

Parents should have been asked to opt in, rather than be burdened with a rushed decision to opt out.The speech is completely bogus-merely using a captive audience to promote a failing political agenda.

Obama should focus his talk on why he did not attend public schools and explain why his own children attend private schools. Obama should apologize to America for denying the children of Washington DC the choice of opting out of the failed government school program there.

  5. mike c says:

Glad to see the daily brief is back!!

  6. Money says:

    Putz, Putz, Putz,

How quickly we forget…Didn’t Bush and Reagan deliver similar speeches? Were you so against those speeches, too? Have you actually read President Obama’s speech? What exactly are you so concerned about in that speech? Stay in school, work hard, be accountable to yourself…pretty crazy notions – sounds almost republican-like!

  7. Timothy Myers says:

It may just be me, but whenever they get someone on television to complain about the President they always seem to have a BMI over 30?

  8. Timothy Myers says:

The WRB does now look more like a news blog. Before it was kind of a stream of consciousness.

It was also nice to see notaFerryfan videos enjoy second life on the WRB.

  9. Fred Butler says:

Yeah, Regan and Bush did similar speeches, but when they did it the demos held investigative hearings. Should that be done starting tomorrow?

Good point about private school and the stand in the door demos.

By the way, what’s an archaeo-conervative? Is that similar to a paleo-leftist?

  10. mike c says:

When is the talkers forum returning?

  11. Jeff says:

By the way, what’s an archaeo-conervative? Is that similar to a paleo-leftist?

An archaeo-conservative is the hardest of the hard core conservatives. More right than even an ultra-conservative. Far more conservative than even a hyperconservative. Such conservatives would like to see society revert to an earlier, simpler time (the Middle Ages spring to mind) thus the use of the prefix “archaeo” which means old, ancient and is used with the suffix “ology” which means, the study of old things.

So no, it’s not the same as a paleo-leftist. Pretty much polar opposite I would think.

  12. Petz says:

In the cash of Bush-his visit took place in a Waswhington DC school-which the federal government has jurisdiction and responsibility for.

Bottom line is Obama does not believe a word of what he said. His action and policies expose the emptiness of his words.

The resistance to Obama’s speech forced him to alter the message and abandon the lesson plan .

  13. CC says:

Yep, I sure miss the forum.

  14. CC says:

Petz, if that were so then Obama’s political maneuvering has once again made the GOP look stupid and desperate. Point to Obama.

  15. Jeff says:

When is the talkers forum returning?

When hell freezes over or when I vote Republican, whichever comes first.

  16. Timothy Myers says:

TALKERS FORUM!!! Not to put too fine a point on it but the alternative SUCKS!!! Also, there are a couple of out of town La Rouchites that hang out over there for some strange reason. I only want to hear from our local, but lovable, right wing loons.

  17. Cash says:

The mouth of the west did a great job with the Ferry McLean video. My answer to his question is a big No to Ferry and McLean.

Ferry is an embarrassment to the residents of the City and Mrs. McLean, while a nice lady and a decent tap dancer), is not critical thinker!

    We deserve better.

  18. Petz2 says:

When is the talkers forum returning? One cannot blame Jeff for not wanting to bring Talkers back.

Yesterday Gangfang accused a local store manager of being a white supremacist and today Money is referring to Petz with a Yiddish vulgarity.

    Why can’t people act responsibly?

  19. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

While I would like to see nothing better than a competitive election one can pretty much count on TimBen running a very robust campaign and ending up with 3,800 votes and coming in fourth. I see the Duane Harte heartbreak all over again!

  20. Fred Butler says:

If that is your definition for ‘Archaeo-conservative’ then Hugh Hewitt hardly qualifies. He is more of a squishy-evangeo-conservative who hasn’t met a heresy he can’t find common ground with.

  21. Jeff says:

Fred, seriously? I heard him on Greg Kokul’s program a few weeks ago. Sounded to me like Hewitt was as orthodox as they come, a patron saint to the Evangelicals who dabble in politics. Kokul couldn’t stop heaping praise on him.

  22. Cash says:

    Timothy Myers

You may be correct. However the council has made enough poor decisions, directly or indirectly, with more likely to be made, that voters may surprise us all.

Frankly, I can’t see how anyone would vote for Frank. “THINK” Santa Clarita, “THINK” before you vote! We “DUMPED the DUMP” now let’s “DUMP FERRY”!

  23. Timothy Myers says:

    Petz:

I agree with you on the GangFang accusation. If someone wants to make that type of accusation that would be per se slander and libel if false they need to put their real name behind it!

  24. the original mike says:

re: Hugh I think he’s very conservative, but he’s more a hardcore wild-eyed loyalist to whomever he hitches his ride. His loyalties to Nixon, GW Bush, Romney and Palin at one time or another led him to downplay his previously “unshakeable” principles. I’d say you won’t find a more hardcore Republican, as in a party loyalist, but there are plenty of people to the right of him on the ideological spectrum.

  25. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

Frank will easily muster about 5,700 votes, which will put him in first or second place, but like any controversial figure, people who don’t like him can’t even begin to understand how ANYONE could vote for him. His partsans possess a much different view and they have not all been hypnotized. Perhaps your disagreements with elected officials should be more nuanced.

  26. Timothy Myers says:

    Question to All:

Has anyone received any campaign material from the Hart School Board candidates yet? In two to three weeks the mail in ballots will come out and within three to five days the election will be “over,” the result safely in the hands of the US postal service. When are the candidates going to get on their horses and run?

Ironic if all the expensive campaigning kicks in after 70% of the votes have been cast.

  27. brook says:

I think the Sheraton is a good use of that property. We need more hotel space, meeting rooms and conference space, that can certainly bring more business into our community. Of course there is a group that thinks its a horrible idea, too tall, too this, but no different that Town Center. I say yes, yes and yes!

  28. brook says:

    And welcome back DB!

  29. Fred Butler says:

Kokul couldn’t stop heaping praise on him

(Fred) Koukl regrettably suffers from similar problems as Hugh. Where as Hugh tends to be friendly with secular political types so that he becomes squishy conservative wise, Greg is friendly with individuals who tend to have bad theology and that in turn makes him squishy in the evangelical sense. Of course, “evangelical” is sort of a worthless word to begin with seeing that it has been stripped of all its original historical meaning by every crack pot religious group who comes along both left and right who appropriate the title to themselves.

  30. mike c says:

What no forum! Assuming you will be voting for Hart School Board candidates, that means you will be voting Republican. Let me check, yup the current temp in hell is close to a chilly 41 degrees! :-)

No forum! No Justice! No Peace! :-)

  31. CC says:

Good point mike c. Jeff, just give in to the inevitable. It is obvious that your daily brief is becoming forumized. Resistance is futile and as Tim said, the alternative sucks.

I agree Brook. I was nervous about a 7 story hotel on that tiny patch of land but it seems like a pretty good design and I don’t think Hotels generally generate a huge impact on traffic. So I think I am cool with the plan but I won’t be in the homes that will be staring down hotel rooms. We shall see.

  32. Cash says:

    Timothy Myers

When did you stop speaking English. Would you like to make a small bet on the number of votes Ferry receives? Does Rasmussen have that many friends he can influence?

  33. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

How about a little over/under action?

Ferry get MORE THAN 5,600 votes
    TimBen gets LESS THAN 4,500

  34. Cash says:

Well it looks like we may have chased another hard working member of society out of the valley. I hear Sonny Greenback is going to move his business to Northern California. Seems Sonny’s business was not able to benefit from the Enterprise Zone tax give a way program. And he is pissed. Sonny will be moving, after a short stay at the house of sheriff, to a community that embraces his code of ethics and business conduct. Seems he believes he will be able to expand is operation in a community that enjoys a big laugh and a bout with the munchies.

  35. Cash says:

    Timmy, please rephrase the challenge.

  36. ReaderMama says:

Tim, Bob Jensen had a crew of supporters passing out flyers at the Placerita Jr. High Back to School Night. But that’s all the campaigning I’ve seen or heard so far . . .

Jeff, if you won’t bring the forum back, isn’t there someone else who can? What about you, Petz? You could summarily dismiss anyone who called you a name and expound on as many topics as you please. Think about it!

  37. Jeff says:

Mama, you would need someone to pay for hosting.

Honestly I never minded footing the bill for the website. It didn’t cost that much.

I just came to dislike moderating and getting beat up on all the time. I got enough self esteem issues without the local brownshirts hounding me everywhere plus a significant segment of the talkers accusing me of bias and censorship, as if I was running a forum just so I could shut them up (why open the forum in the first place, I ask?! Why?)

  38. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

    Ferry MORE THAN 5,600 votes
Tim Ben LESS THAN 4,500 votes

Both legs have to happen for me to win. I one leg falls out you win.

  39. Timothy Myers says:

    ReaderMama;

This reminds me of how Paul Strickland basically unseated Gloria Mercado by having people pass out low quality hand made flyers at AYSO games saying that she voted for year round school. (This was factually true, but she was left to hang out to dry when the middle school principles came in and said they could hang on for another year until Rio Norte was opened before going to year round.)

I am beginning to get this strange feeling that Joe Messina might actually edge out Suzan Solomon to come third in the Hart election, but I also thought he would edge out Steve Sturgeon in the last election so I’m a dunce.

  40. Cash says:

Let me check with the campaign manager. I’ll get back to you.

  41. Petz says:

Petz has been handing out flyers for Joe Messina. We have a great campaign plan , which if executed correctly will result in a win.

  42. Petz says:

RM I have never asked for any special protection from those who attack me personally , but I understand why Jeff does not want to moderate. IMHO-moderation almost requires one to preclude themselves from voicing heartfelt opinion and this community needs to hear my voice.

My heritage is Germanic-American and referring to me with a Yiddish vulgarity is way across the line of acceptable behavior.

  43. Timothy Myers says:

    Petz:

Where are you passing out the flyers? Is Joe going to do a mailer to permanent vote by mails?

  44. Cash says:

Joe has the ability to do a mass mailing and write of the postage expense. Unfair competition. Of course the stamps will be used for business purposes, of course they will.

  45. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

That is just a foolish accusation because the bulk rate for a political mailing is MUCH lower than the after tax cost of a business mailing.

  46. Cash says:

In your opinion foolish. I made no accusation above; I do however, believe you live in a fantasy world .
The latter would be an accusation.

  47. Cash says:

    Timmy,
    Sorry, one more things.
Based on your response, it would appear your disagreement is with the cost of the postage when applied to Joe’s tax rate. Not that he might charge the postage (whatever the rate)and associate office costs as as a business expense.

    A cynical view I know!

  48. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

The point was that if someone was going to do something underhanded it should at least be in their own financial best interests.

  49. Timothy Myers says:

Another entertaining thing over the the WRB. Dave Bossert wrote this commentary about the Castaic school site where it looks like he believes he just “discovered” the nefarious Santa Clarita Facilities Foundation. Dave is always about six years behind the curve.

  50. Petz2 says:

Petz did flyers at Rosedell school. Call Joe and ask him anything you want about any topic.

    Joe4hart.com

  51. CC says:

    Ahhh, the foundation. Good times…

  52. Cash says:

    Timmy,

I don’t think this was an issue of financial best interest. It is an issue of wanting a seat on the Board.

Joe is a member of the GOBN so I am sure he will do just fine. He has the resources/advantage to win!

Members of his club have already lined up to show support.

  53. Timothy Myers says:

    Cash:

Joe is only a grudging member of the GOBN and on the miraculous occurence that he is elected he will take counsel from a much wider group than we are used to seeing.

  54. Cash says:

    Timmy,

He seems like a straight up guy. I do not have a horse in the race anyway. Seems the District needs some help. I hope they get it soon. If Joe is the best candidate so be it.

  55. navigator says:

    Cash:

How about a little over/under action?

Ferry get MORE THAN 5,600 votes
    TimBen gets LESS THAN 4,500

    That’s a bet I wouldn’t take with odds!

  56. Cash says:

Not willing to bet yet. Perhaps when all the players are know, but not yet. It would not be fair to Timmy.

  57. Cash says:

    Hey Timmy,

Whatever happened to Ferry’s Field of Dreams and the $98K the city gave the Field of pipe dream owners to locate a field of dreams field site in the city. Did he just blow 98+K

Or do we just not talk about such things. If you recall, TimBen opposed the expense and gave a dam good reason for opposing the expense.

Ferry just yelled until he got his way and the others followed in solidarity. You know, you scratch my back and vote for my projects, and I will scratch yours.

The whole bunch needs to go. Kellar only because he said he will not run again. Lord help us when he is gone and we are stuck with the rest.
Combine they have the critical thought process of a knat.

  58. Money says:

Is a knat like a gnat?

  59. Cash says:

No, a knat is harder to eliminate than a gnat. Any more smart questions or contributions Money?

  60. Money says:

Why don’t you run for public office, cash? You seem to have a lot of free time on your hands and you think you have the answers to everything. Go for it, big guy!

  61. Cash says:

    Money,

My time is my business. Perhaps you should worry about yourself? I would not begin to think I know enough about you to offer you advice. Howver, I do welcome any meaningful comments you might like to offer.

  62. Money says:

Answer my question, cash. Why won’t you run for office? Much easier to just sit around and complain, huh?

  63. cash says:

    Money,

You have know idea how I spend my time. However, I will admit that running for office would be work hard work.
Fact is, I do not need to work, nor do I want to work.

The city council needs to be replaced, and I will support candidates yet to be announced, that I believe can make that happen.
I am not a politician, something even you should be able to detect.
