The style of the library dose not fit in to the “Old Town Newhall” look. To me it looks like a hunting lodge.

Speaking of candidate websites, Bob Jensen launched a site yesterday. Jensen4Hart.com. And, yes, I happen to know that Bob was thinkin’ and shoppin’ local for his web design and hosting :)

The Art Walk last night wasn’t packed but there were a number of people strolling the street and visiting local businesses which was the idea behind the whole thing. I found it rather inviting to have artists and musicians on the sidewalk. I finally found the time to explore some of the shops I’d never been in and the business owners were thrilled to have people coming in. I hope that word will spread that it’s safe to stroll Main Street and get aquainted with the local businesses.

Jeff, glad to see a link for the Mike Berger site. I’m really excited about his candidacy. IMO, COC is the best-run local institution and his involvement with the College goes back a very long time. He seems to be the consensus pick of people who follow the college closely.

As the debates go on for the various seats up for grabs in the SCV it was interesting to note that only 3 candidates showed up for the NCWD race. Could it be that Cathy Colley didn’t have anything to debate? With the idea of CLWA purchasing NCWD floating around wouldn’t it be interesting to have a NCWD board member (possibly Cathy) married to a CLWA board member (Ed Colley)? Food for thought.

  6. mike d says:

Other consensus seems to be that Cathy Colley doesn’t know a thing about the issues. Really surprised to see her get any endorsements. Some of these organizations need to forget about party labels in these nonpartisan races and look to competency.

Don’t tease me with with gigantic phallic symbol references!

I like the rendition of the library. It is something different than the stucco wonders that we have become accustom.

I couldn’t make the art walk last night but I think it is a great idea and plan to enjoy it in the future.

    Did someone just holler “BINGO”?

The stlyle of the library has been changed from the sketches that were presented to the public before. Although this style would look good in some places it does not fit our Downtown. Also the building was supposed to be built to create a focal point to Main Street, so that as you look down Main Street there is a feature that draws you to it. An example of this can be found at capitol mall, Ventura Govn’t building, and even Disneyland with the Castle at one end and the Classic train station at the other end. These spaces with focal points at the ends create a sense of place. They make you want to spend time in that space. The way this building is crafted it does not give you that important perspective. If this is a view from Lyons, it is worse. Hopefully the public, residents and Business Owners of Newhall will have a chance to weigh in before the Council moves forward.

The building looks much like the Newhall Train station only on a larger scale. I like the building but do not know that if is a good fit. It seems to me that there is not a clear understanding of what character the City Council is trying to create in OTN. Is it Craftsmen, is it Western, is it Spanish, or is it just an eclectic mix! It certainly does not seem that the interest is in maintaining the original character of the area.

  11. Walker :) says:

Me no likey. The library is BLAH and doesn’t fit in with the character of the area AT ALL. I’m fairly easy to please, but I’m thinking Old Town Newhalls identity crisis has carried itself over into the ner library design. Frankly, it makes no sense.

  12. Indy says:

Should the city decide on a consistent ’scheme’ for construction for SCV-land?

Would this be a good or bad thing?

  13. Walker :) says:

No, the entire city doesn’t need a ‘theme’, but if they are going to spend decades and zillions of dollars in OTN, it might as well comliment itself.
