September 30, 2009 – Daily Brief

  • Local anon. business person leases space to Domestic Violence Center at a “greatly reduced price.” The DVC will now move to the Industrial Center. Yay! SIGNAL
  • Reaction to and handicapping of TimBen Boydston’s City Council Campaign SIGNAL
  • Man dies in freak accident on Interstate 5 in Grapevine KHTS
  • Bad information! The Signal article on this weekend’s memorial bike ride is all wrong. First of all, it’s “VELO” not “VERO,” secondly the ride is not just for Velo riders. It will be escorted by the Sheriff and the CHP and will start at 8am, not 6:30 am. It’s for everyone so come on out! We are riding at a 12mph pace, easy even on a beach cruiser!  FLYER
  • McKeon’s Town Hall has been featured on Fox News Channel several times over the last few days. Anchors characterizing it as an anti-health care only affair; it clearly was not. Anyway, have a look YOUTUBE
  • COC Library to double in size from 44,000 sq. ft. to almost 100,000 Sq. Ft. Students face a lack of seats and study areas currently as the library was built for a student population of about 10,000, not the 25,000 that go there now SIGNAL
  • Home sales up 3.5% in August, but median price down 11% over August 2008 numbers. Inventory tight thanks to foreclosure regs, but that should loosen up soon and then you watch, everyone will become a realtor just like in 2006 SIGNAL
  • Mommy Power: the moms in this town really know how to organize and now they’ve got a blog/forum/portal site to prove it. Introducing SCVMomsblog.ning.com. I for one welcome our new matriarchal overlords

Hey Farley and King, what do you guys think – pretty cool, huh?

“East Walker Ranch is a 140 acre site located in Placerita Canyon and the very first property acquired through the City’s Open Space Preservation District. The Santa Clarita City Council will celebrate the acquisition, along with funding partners Los Angeles County and Pardee Homes, this Wednesday September 30 at 4 p.m. on location at 16830 Placerita Canyon Road.

East Walker Ranch is adjacent to the Angeles National Forest and the City’s Golden Valley Open Space providing residents with passive recreational opportunities and is a notable addition towards maintaining the City’s goals for open space preservation, wildlife connectivity and expansion of the City’s greenbelt buffer.”

They can’t afford copy editors anymore. Journalism is more fly-by-wire for them now.

LOL. If there’s any lactating going on, it’s usually hidden by the large cocktails we’re holding.

    Thanks for the mention.
