I heard some rumors about this incident via email yesterday, but I don’t post it until/unless the Sheriff’s Station confirms, which they did this morning:
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is investigating a second reported incident of attempted kidnapping which occurred yesterday afternoon in the 29000 block of Las Brisas Road, Unincorporated Los Angeles County – Tesoro Del Valle.
The second incident is apparently unrelated to another attempted kidnapping incident that was reported yesterday morning in the Newhall area. Refer to this press release for details on that incident: Public Safety Notice: Newhall.
In this second incident, an 11-year-old Santa Clarita Valley boy reported to deputies that he was walking westbound in the 29200 block of Las Brisas Road when a silver sedan or compact car drove up behind him. A male passenger in the sedan, described as a male Hispanic, 18-21 years old, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt got out of the passenger side of the car and told the boy to get in the car. The boy ran away and the suspect got back into the car. The vehicle continued to follow the boy for approximately 50 feet as he took his cell phone out of his pocket and called his mother. The suspects’ vehicle made a u-turn and fled the area. The young boy continued to walk home without further incident.
What a smart kid. Thank God. SCVSheriff.com has more.
On the one hand, we’re told that stranger abductions of children are very very rare; yet on the other hand, at least locally, these stories seem to repeat every few months with similar locations, circumstances and outcomes. It was only a few months ago that a 16 year old girl also escaped an attempted abduction near Placerita Jr. High.
I don’t know what to make of these stories, but happy to see we have some smart youngsters out there.
I heard about this last night via Facebook and email blasts from PTA moms, dads and other concerned folks. Thankful we live in such an engaged community — each child is everyone’s child when it comes to protecting them. Also thankful that many folks are connected through new media where instantaneous, fast response messaging is possible.
Big question: What on earth is going on that we have so many seemingly unrelated abduction attempts occurring? Scary stuff. Anyone see the movie “Taken”? The premise was super scary stuff!
Like in Taken? You mean oil rich Saudi tycoons have their Albanian henchman snatching our children off Lyons Ave? Horrors!
Are there any Albanians living in Santa Clarita?
Premise guys, premise…as in human trafficking. It’s a very real problem in parts of this world. I’m not implying it’s a problem in the SCV, just stating that abductions in general are terrifying events sometimes with ulterior motive and sometimes without.
I know…Just giving you a hard time.
I would say the abduction scenarios here, however, are more likely your run of the mill sexual pervert who wants to take it beyond his internet porn he views.
Traffikers can find easier prey elsewhere.
