The Daily News reports:
The skeletal remains of what appeared to be a man were found near a bike trail near Magic Mountain Parkway, authorities said Friday.
The remains were discovered near the South Fork bike trail south of Magic Mountain Parkway around 3:55 p.m. Thursday by area residents searching for a lost pet, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dep. Byron Ward. The cause of death was not immediately apparent.
Wow. I’m dumbstruck.
The South Fork bike trail at Magic Mountain is to local bike trails as Soledad & Bouquet are to regular streets. it’s a really busy section of the City’s paths. The south fork is practically a north-south highway for cyclists, joggers, etc.
It’s also just a stone’s throw from all those original Valencia tracts.
That said, it’s not exactly a place I’m comfortably riding around after dark. I’ve seen drug use in the riverbed, heard reports that homeless people live there, and it’s generally not the best place to hang around after the sun goes down.
Still this is pretty shocking. I wonder how long the body was there.

Is this the bike trail that runs along side San Fernando Road, er… I mean Newhall? Just trying to get a picture of where it is exactly.
Wonder if the recent rains (though not heavy)may have ‘unearthed’ the remains?
Yes it runs parallel to Railroad (the correct name for the old SFR) from Magic Mountain Parkway to 16th Street in newhall (near Placerita Junior High).
It’s directly east of Valencia and connects to the Paseo system pretty easily.
Flat, long and fast! lots of people use it.
It would be nice if our city leaders could come to grips with a permanent homeless shelter so at least that issue would become moot . . . including perhaps the drug use.

Yes. We can build it close to the wash next to Bridgeport. Or maybe up near the Valencia High School. The old Mervyns building could possibly be a good option as well.
Always looking out for “the least of thee”
Fred,
How about building it in the same location that the County did for the temporary shelter in the industrial center, close to jobs?
And if we get these folks back to work as ‘taxpayers’, isn’t that a plus?
What amazes me is that this is another incident that occurred in mid afternoon, yet the LASD wasn’t notified until after 2:00 AM – Dial 911 folks! Or from a cell phone 255-1121.
