Ouch

I actually think The Signal has been doing a great job lately on a variety of stories but nothing says “small town rag” like covering the death of a dog belonging to a powerful auto dealer.

Here’s when I say again its nice we live in a community that even stories about a local well-known dog died. No one complained when they covered the Taco Bell dog death story. The Signal is doing a fine job of covering a variety of news, I personally don’t want to read only about crime, crime and more crime because thats not what its only about out here, variety please! So keep it up Singal!

You guys are really reaching on this one. The “article” was a small note among other small community notes. It wasn’t a story for crying out loud. Having just lost my “child” of 14 years I know how they feel. And, no, the loss of my dog wasn’t even noticed in the Signal. Even if you aren’t Fleming fans you can give them a break on this one.

Of course we know why the story got Signal coverage- auto row remains one of the top advertisers in the Signal, even in 2009.

For those of us that get the news from the website, the story was featured prominently. Completely absurd. I’m sure they are sad, but it isn’t newsworthy in the least. The most embarrassing turn for the SIgnal in the Lamont era.

I know how hard it is to lose a beloved dog. We had to put ours down a year and a half ago (also 14 Navigator) and it was a very sad event within my family. However, I’m sure that because of this couples standing, and yes being a ‘top’ advertiser in the Signal, it was no surprise; in fact expected. This dog was very prominent on their ads. I can totally understand why the Signal ran a small article on their lost. Heck, we even thought about putting an obituary in the paper when ours passed….just kidding, but it was a traumatic event for my family. I only felt saddness for Mr. and Mrs. Acura; still do.

Yes – they are successful and advertise all over town. There is nothing WRONG with that. In addition, they also give thousands upon thousands to local charities. It was a small blurb about a prominant and active local family’s loss. Folks that have turned this political are quite pathetic.

You got it exactly right Jeff. Small town rag hardly begins to describe the Signal. I stopped subscribing when my bird died.

  12. Anony Mouse says:

Get a grip, people – the Signal IS a small town rag. The paper is damned if it does, and damned if it doesn’t. If they only wrote serious articles about crime and politics, they’d lose half their readership. If they only wrote puff pieces about dogs – DITTO. That’s why they put a variety of articles in there. REMINDER: the Signal is not the New York Times, nor does it aspire to be. And the SCV is not New York City, OK? It’s a suburban backwater 30 miles from a big city.

“Suburban, yes. Backwater… hmmm… not too sure on that one.”

Yes, backwater. Backwater of Los Angeles. Live here because you don’t want to live there, but don’t mind commuting every day.
