Poizner Coming to Town

The State Insurance Commissioner running for .Gov will get a much warmer welcome than his rival, Meg Whitman, who pretty much slipped in and out of Santa Clarita a couple weeks ago with barely any notice:

A Republican hopeful for governor is coming to the Santa Clarita Valley on Thursday to talk business with the SCV Chamber of Commerce.

State insurance commissioner Steve Poizner is set to meet with the SCV Chamber of Commerce on Thursday morning for a panel discussion where the candidate will exchange ideas with area business owners. Thursday’s meeting is part of eight such meetings between Poizner and Chambers of Commerce in the state, said Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, who has endorsed the candidate and arranged the local meeting.

“I got to know (Poizner) well over the years because of the fires in my district. To see him work with the people impacted by the fires, showed me his commitment to serve the people of California,” said Smyth, whose 38th district includes the SCV. “He is the right man at the right time to run California.”

The chance to hear Poizner’s message in person will be an honor for the small business owners in attendance, said Larry Mankin, president of the SCV Chamber of Commerce.

“His message is two-fold: Primarily, he wants to hear from small businesses and our concerns,” Mankin said. Secondly, “he wants to share with those in the business community what the state needs to do to come out of this malaise.”

SIGNAL

To SCV Republicans, Steve Poizner is good people. He’s an all star/Übermensch to the Chamber-set and I predict lots of coverage and good words from locals about him, just like when Romney visited our town last year.

I was impressed by Meg Whitman and look forward to meeting with Mr Poisner. Meg has the wherewithall to put up a good fight for the job which makes her a good candidate along with her business sense so Mr Poisner has a strong opponent.
