I don’t want to hear one damn word about “housing shortages.” Excess inventory contributed to the housing price collapse, and anything about shortages is just self-serving BS from the realty industry.
spineflower2:
I would commend to your reading a chapter in Steve Leavitt’s book “Freakonomics” on real estate agents and the breakdown of the agency relationship. It’s all about the (transaction) spin baby!
I’ve been trying to buy a house/condo and there really isn’t much out there that is not waiting for the banks to accept short sale offers which are stacked up like cordwood.
Don’t feel special Jeff. Many of us got the same mailer from Disney.
Jeff:
Your one sentence summarry of Bob Kerchners letter is a very inaccurate representation of his letter. You put in quotes that he said progressives are “simply barbarians”. This quote appears nowhere in the letter. He does state that the progressives actions “are akin” to the actions of the barbarians of yore. Quite a different tone than that which you imply. Kirchners letter is very good when it describes the methods that are used by the radicals in this country to force their ways against the will of the majority. Obama and ilk clearly use “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky as their playbook. You can disagree with the view, but please don’t mischaracterize others views by simplistic and inaccurate sentences.
man if you think that’s a good letter, you are as crazy as he is.
v-town:
Perhaps you are quite happy that Obama is taking the short opportunity while he is in power to consolodate as much power in Washington as he can. If you think he is not trying to do that perhaps you need your head checked. This is not what the majority of Obama voters wanted from him, and many now regret their vote. When I see so many from generation X and Y who want government to provide more and be the solution to all our problems I do fear for Liberty in my country. Most of us in the older generations know the threat marxist thinking can be. It used to come from outside the country, now it’s comming from within.
Government created the inventory shortage with the foreclosure moratorium and pressure on banks t to do modifications which fequently fail. On the demand side-buyers who may not purchase w/o the tax credit are competing with those who did not qualify or would have purchased without it.
Government cratered the real estate finance industry by ignoring the problems at FNMA and FHLMC The FHA insurance fund is nearing insolvency and tighter underwriting guidelines will soon be instituted.
And 35% of you want to turn our health care over to these people. Pretty sad if you ask me.
Jim:
Haven’t you been hauled off to the Soylent Green factory yet? I thought you were on that “list” I saw two weeks ago.
Jim Farley,
you may be debating with a generation that does not believe in working hard to achieve prosperity. They are just fine, thank you, with having others pay their way. It may be time to let them have their way. You have done all the good you can and it may be time for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Others will have to live with the society they are building. A society that thinks it will be happy with a bike in every garage, two dogs and no children, and a government that covers the cost of all aspects of their life. They will learn in time that they have created a society that they do not like, and by then it will be too late.
So Jim, enjoy what you have and let nature take its course.
Your continued attempts at helping them understand is only going to fall on deaf ears and make you unhappy.
Try and focus on ways to avoid paying taxes as the new society, headed by Obama, is looking for every way they can to make you pay for their new way of life.
“a generation that does not believe in working hard to achieve prosperity”
bollocks.
We just want what other great western countries already have. Universal health care. Cheap or free education. Quality infrastructure. smart financial regulation. a realization that the free market, while great for things like ipods, cars, and widgets, isn’t that great for things like health care, student loans, and food safety.
I have a job. All my liberal 20/30 something friends have jobs. We all pay taxes.
Speaking of getting something for nothing- how much do you pay to access and post on this website that I provide for you out of the goodness of my heart?
Tim:
Havn’t been hauled off yet, but this week was a close call. While a doctor told me it wasn’t likely H1N1 I just came off a week of fighting the worst flue I’ve had in my life. If the Soylent Green folks saw me I’m sure I’d be rejected due to my quite unhealthy appearance. There were two days where I was thinking completeley deliriously due to a 103 degree fever. I even thought I was a progressive for a minute. The fever broke yesterday and based on what I say above you can see my thinking is clear again.
So Jeff. You ONLY do this website, and great sacrifice, as a gift to the community and ONLY ‘out of the goodness of your heart’. Something tells you get more out of it than that.
So those of us that choose to comment are free loaders and ‘on the SCVTalk dole’. I think if you take a serious look we actually make the dialogue more interisting by bringing up the oposing view.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again. This is the best Blog in the SCV. Your last comment was a bit over the top though.
aside from being ill, you went and lost your spidey sense for a joke. lighten up old man.
Jeff wants newhall to become it’s own city. A biking man’s dave bossert.
Jeff, if making just enough money to get by is your definition of prosperity and fulfills your expectation for life, good for you. Your expectation will be achieved. No where did I suggest that you and your buddies did not have jobs.
The answer to your question is that I pay for Internet access every month. If you would like me to send you money to help you cover your cost, let me know and I will send you a few bucks.
The point I was making is that the trend is heading in the direction of socialism, and Jim should just enjoy the fruits of his labor.
He is old enough to understand what I was suggesting.
It’s like talking to my dad up in here
“up in here”
Jeff I did not know you are one of the brothers!

Jeff, you be gett’n up in my bizznezz!
Jeff:
I’m sure your dad is a very good man. We should all get together for a beer sometime!:)
And V-town, don’t worry, you have no clue how healthy my sense of humor is.
Now I think I’ll go have a quick bite, a double shot of Scotch, and sleep the rest of the weekend.
Pour one for me!
cash, by the way, welcome back. Where did you go for the last month?
SCVTalk just isn’t the same without your homo and xenophobias
My boy friend and I went to Mexico for a few weeks. I returned with a case of the pig flew. I am feeling much better now. Thanks for asking.
HICCUP!
Hey cash where do you think the money came from to convert the seal to that wacko “In God We Trust” look that you rammed down our throat? From the same taxpayers who are jamming you back with some good ole fashioned first world healthcare! Now take your medicine.

I come from the exact same generation as Jeff, and I couldn’t agree with you more.
I don’t know if you have ever lived in Europe Jeff, but believe me, you do not want to let America turn into them. Cradle to the Grave socialism is destructive to individual freedoms and personal rights and society as a whole. Bigger governments produce smaller minded people to enforce the rules for everyone.
Yeah, you may have freebie health care until you reach fifty when you will then be put on waiting lists, but it is not worth producing an entire entitlement culture where no one wants to take care of themselves.
Besides, those societies you think are far superior to America will be completely Islamic in 20 years and then free health care won’t matter much.
Really Fred? Which socialist program would you and your family like to opt out of? Medicare? State colleges and universities? Please let me have your federally grown swine flu vaccine, my kids really need it, and seeing as you wouldn’t want any government sponsored fluids jacking you up, do me a favor and hand it over
Fred, I don’t know where in Europe you were but I lived in Spain for two years a while back and have returned to visit family many times. They enjoy a wonderful standard of living and now have the middle class we used to have. All CITIZENS have cradle to grave medical, prescription, dental, optometric, etc. and they are far healthier as a nation than the USA for a whole lot less moola. Their doctors are respected professionals but not super rich like so many here are. Spaniards have more leisure time, time with family and friends, and according to the latest poll the sexiest men! They also speak their minds at the drop of a hat so I don’t find them at all repressed. In fact, they love to debate and share ideas.
Me, I’m an American gal but wouldn’t mind having some of the quality of life stuff they enjoy in Spain. They do pay more taxes but it is a more equitable tax system than the USA. So don’t knock Europe so much. Maybe we could borrow some good ideas from them.
Fred,
I’ll wager any amount of money on your prognostication of a European country becoming completely Islamic in 20 years. Proceeds can go to a “KJV-optional” church of your choice.
countries that are currently non-Islamic excluded, of course.
I’m an American gal but wouldn’t mind having some of the quality of life stuff they enjoy in Spain.
Including the bowing to the pressure of terrorist groups? I’ll get ahold of some friends from Spain and run by them your list and see what they tell me.
Mike, Your on. It’s folks like you that I just live to see their faces when they are proven wrong.

Medicare? Yes. Can I have my money back?
State colleges and universities? Yes, I want my kids to actually learn something other than leftist gobbly-gook.
Please let me have your federally grown swine flu vaccine, my kids really need it, and seeing as you wouldn’t want any government sponsored fluids jacking you up, do me a favor and hand it over
You got it.
$500, twenty years. Let’s stay in touch.
you aren’t basing this on that crackpot video on youtube, are you?
Damn it! I thought the swine flu got cash.
Fred, you sound like you could use a nice glass of wine and some tapas. You are wound a little tight buddy!
Berta Gonzalez-Harper:
When I was in Spain in 1977 I saw police walking the streets of Barcelona carrying machine guns, strapped over their shoulders in the ‘ready’ position. Nice added ambiance to the glass of sherry on Las Ramblas. In Pamplona, where we ran with the bulls, I saw a tourist take a picture of a gray police bus. Several police got out, beat the crap out of him, and took his camera. Spain sure did not look like a bastion of freedom to me. Of course this was the socially unstable Basque region. I think I’ll keep the good old USA, you should move to Spain.
Jim Farley, you were in Spain during the time it was under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco who came to power after a horrific time of war in Spain. I lived there as a child during that time and I have to tell you, it was reassuring to see the Guardia Civil ( civil guard akin to National Guard here) walking the streets. At least you knew order was restored and killings were not happening in front of you. New Orleans after Katrina anyone. Things have changed mucho since then so take a trip back to visit and see. Spain is now a very modern country, with a high standard of living. Yes, there is political unrest which actually proves my point. People are free to say and do what they want, even the Basque Separatists. Many Spaniards would like the government to crack down hard but so far just enough to keep from all out war between these factions.
Are you saying there is not political unrest here? And take a picture of something the CIA does not want photographed and see what happens to you! Kripes, you and I must be living in alternative universes or something.
Are RE prices still above 2003 levels? How much higher in percent if they still are? I think RE prices were increasing 3% a year on average before the boom. If we go back to 2002 prices are we at the 3% per year average increase or above it?
Very funny whoever you are, insinuating that my friend Jim Farley should pour me a scotch along with him and his sleepy weekend. Most of you knowing I’m not a drinker, I would gladly sip a Diet Coke or even a rootbr, but to use my name! Come on. Unless we have another Sterling here but I doubt it. Just for the record- Jim’s comments are exactly on point and everyone knows it.
pulling up a few examples, just anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt, but prices are below that of February 2002.
BGH:
I thought Franco died in 1975? Even if that is true I know his regime had to still hold much power in 1977. I have no doubt about what you say is the situation in Spain today, you are clearly more an expert on that. My concerns for Spain are still there however. Fred makes a good point about the Spanish population caving to the terrorists in the election just after the last terrorist attacks. To me this was shameful as a nation.
I have to also wonder about the nations strength against tyranny, when Franco was allowed to come to power in the first place in 1939 he was directly helped by Hitler who loved the oportunity to test his war machine just prior to WWII. Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ is a great example of the horror reigned on Spain by Hitler at Franco’s benefit.
Spain is indeed a beautiful and cuture filled nation. The people I met there are all great as individuals. For long term liberty I’ll still take the USA. (Unless Obama succeeds in his quest to change it).
“I’ll still take the USA. (Unless Obama succeeds in his quest to change it).”
¿ AND u wonder why nobody takes U srsly?
BGH:
I also want to let you know I feel very badly for the experiences you must have experienced as a child during the Spanish Civil War. While I know about it from reading history and seeing Picasso paintings, you know it first hand.
My full respect goes to you on that. Anything more you can do to educate me is appreciated.
By the way. The Picasso museum in Barcelona is a ‘must see’ by anyone who visits the city. (I think it was just recently opened in 1977 when I was there.)
v-town:
If the lefties on this site don’t take me seriously I’m quite content with that. In fact I hope they take none of us on the side against the assault by Obama against our liberties seriously. We are just a bunch of weak minded zombies following the orders of talk radio anyway. I’m sure we will have no impact on the 2010 elections nationwide. I’m sure the American people want the left to remain in power, so you have every reason to not take us seriously.
Jim you are correct that Franco died in 1975 but his party and its power remained through 1978 so you were there during his “reign.” He was in power nearly 40 years. It has taken the Spanish people decades to recover from their Civil War and the regime under Franco.
Thank you for your comments regarding the Spanish Civil War but I did not suffer through that time there myself as I was not yet born. I was however there during Franco’s rule and I apologize if I didn’t make that clear. Believe it or not Franco is who saved Spain from becoming a communist country by ruling with an iron hand and squashing the communist movement. I am not condoning his actions, simply trying to put them into perspective for you. He was the lesser of two evils.
My grandmother shipped my father out of Spain as an 11 year old boy to save him from the war but she died during that war so I never had the priviledge of knowing her.
My father sent me to school in Spain from 1962-1964 during Franco’s dictatorship. I was in Spain when John Kennedy was assasinated. My papa wanted me to know his culture and language but was a very proud Naturalized American citizen who made sure his three children were born in the USA and that we understood how lucky we are to enjoy our freedom. I like to visit family in Spain but Santa Clarita USA is my home.
Many Spaniards disagreed with the decision to pull out and leave us hanging in Iraq but just as you and I don’t make the decision to go to war or not neither do the Spanish citizens. Those decisions are made by others and you just have to live with them as best you can.
We can educate each other. Thanks!
hey, spain ducked out of Iraq? Man, what a dumb move that turned out to be!
Drydenfire
You’re kidding right?
