  • Body found behind vacant strip mall in Castaic Junction may or may not be that of 18 year old Brigitt Kennemore, the Valencia high girl who went missing two weeks ago after exiting a Santa Clarita Transit bus. Cops say the body matches the description of Kennemore and say the “death did not appear to be violent in nature.” SIGNAL
  • SCVTalk reader Mike has updated his 2009 Unincorporated SCV vote map. The map now has data from nearly all West side and Castaic precincts and includes vote by mail and polling station votes. The full results show the West side & Tesoro much more amenable to annexation. Castaic, meanwhile, likes its place in the County MAP
  • Westfield is ready to take the wraps off its $100 million 300,000 sq. ft. “Patios” expansion at the mall with several stores and restaurants opening next week. More will follow in December and next year. Remember when we wrote about new shops and restaurants opening in the SCV all the time? This is great news KHTS
  • Station fire still burning in the root systems underground, also the difference between a fire being “contained” and “controlled” LAIST
  • Buck McKeon visits SCV Lock factory that went from 7 employees to 45 after receiving stimulus funds. McKeon notes that in this case, the stimulus is working. McKeon voted against the stimulus back in February. no link

  1. Money says:

I thought we were getting a Cheesecake Factory at the mall.

  2. Jeff says:

I heard, at one time, we were getting an Apple store too.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of large retailers/restaurants going in there. These appear to be local, smaller operations.

  3. Money says:

An Apple store sure would be nice!

  4. mike says:

Glad to see no CF, sad to not see Apple. This list reminds me of the off-branded C-rate places that populated the mall when it opened.

I hear a rumor that Dink’s will be different than their existing locations. I would KILL* for a full-blown deli. Fresh rye and hand-sliced pastrami? Let’s hope.

*a cow, provided its brisket be cured and smoked and served on rye.

  5. mike says:

Unless you are a cowboy, and even now you have trouble, Santa Clarita has always been awful for men’s clothes.

  6. Valencia Joe says:

I too have heard about the Apple Store and Cheesecake Factory going in. That was also going to be the location of the California Pizza Kitchen before Sisley raised a stink and CPK went back to the Bridgeport Marketplace (in NORTHBRIDGE!). I have heard from reliable sources that major retailers have pulled out of the Patios expansion due to the economy, and that Westfield is offering current owners of shops along the Town Center expansion major incentives to move to the Patios (incentives such as being lease-free for 6 to 12 months if they move to the Patios).

  7. Valencia Joe says:

Forgot to add that I wish that Jerry’s Deli, as opposed to Dink’s, moved into the Patios. Much better food and variety offered.

  8. mike says:

I’d rather take a chance with Dinks trying hard than Jerry’s doing something mediocre, which they always do. Though I’d take Jerry’s as-is over Dinks as-is. I should add, I know nothing about what Dinks is planning only a whisper that it’s “different” than the current Dinks(s)

  9. Valencia Joe says:

A mediocre Jerry’s is “hands-over-fist” better than the everyday Dink’s.

  10. valleynewsgal says:

Jerry’s Deli – hands down the best!

  11. CC says:

Brents Deli beats the socks off Jerrys (I agree with Mike on mediocrity). Dinks will be a nice addition. I prefer non-chain places anyway.

I am excited over the Aveda Salon (great products), and the Teavana (wonderful loose tea).

Finally a welcome shout out to Lazy Dog who should do well in this valley (good beer).

  12. Money says:

Junior’s Deli in West LA or Roll ‘n Rye Deli in Culver City. Now, those two are REAL deli’s.

  13. Tesoro Guy says:

I agree with you, Money. I do like Jerry’s and Brents, but nothing beats the deli food at Junior’s and Roll ‘n Rye.

  14. mike says:

Brents and Langers are the kings of LA, there is no question. Miles apart from Jerry’s.

I don’t know what’s Dink’s aspirations are, and I wonder if he can pull it off, but I hope he’s aiming Brent’s/Langer’s high and not Jerry’s high.

Langer’s #19 is the best sandwich in Los Angeles and it’s a cruel thing that y’all have reminded me as I wait for lunch.

BTW, not a huge fan of Dinks, but they are local and I’m really happy to see a local business show this ambition.

  15. Drive66 says:

    Jerry’s sucks

  16. Valencia Joe says:

Langer’s would be great (my favorite is the pastrami with tomatoes and cream cheese), but that is a MacArthur Park legend and can never be duplicated.

  17. lvogel says:

    Brents, Brents, Brents……!

  18. Rosieray says:

haven’t thought about Langer’s for years, I grew up in Rampart

  19. cash says:

David Gauny lost my vote tonight. it is not enough that the city spends 1.6 million annually to support economic development and support business, it is not enough that business has their city fees waived, it is not enough that business takes advantage of all the tax benefits of the enterprise zones, it is not enough that the Chamber of Commerce and the VIA is supported by the city with taxpayer dollar, now we have to give the likes of the Acura King $200,000 of taxpayer money, with no strings attached, to create a new redevelopment agency. All this paid for by the taxpayers. The very taxpayers that are losing their jobs and taxed to death . The same taxpayers the city council claims they are trying to help. THINK SANTA CLARITA, damn right I’ll think about it.. I think the GOBN has gone too far this time and so has David Gauny. Perhaps David is just become another politician without regard for the taxpayer.

    Vote for TIMBEN!
