I follow Princess Cruises’ Twitter feed and they just posted the following story along with these dramatic images:
The afternoon of November 12, Golden Princess received a call from the Coast Guard, informing them of a distressed fishing vessel about 400 miles off the coast of Hawaii. Golden Princess quickly altered its course to Hilo to rescue a couple from Washington and their two dogs.
Christopher Miller and Brandy Meisner, both from Seattle, purchased a commercial fishing vessel to sail to Honolulu and start their own fishing business in Hawaii. They, along with their two dogs Akilah and Romeo, departed San Francisco on October 29 for what they thought would be a two-week journey to Honolulu. When they hit bad weather they were forced to turn around and with the rough seas they didn’t think they had enough fuel to get back to Honolulu. They felt the safest course was to abandon their vessel.
A rescue crew from Golden Princess safely rescued them and landed them securely on board. They were provided with medical exams, comfortable accommodations, hot showers and hearty meals. They’ll sail with Golden Princess to Honolulu and disembark with Romeo and Akilah.
Hopefully, with the tracking device on their vessel, it can be recovered and they can move forward with their plans. Their spirits are high and they’re not going to let this experience deter them from following their path to start their own fishing business.
We wish them all the best for a successful and safe journey ahead.
Did you hear that? They even got “comfortable accommodations” once they were rescued, and they were even nice enough to rescue the dogs.
If I ever have to be rescued on the Pacific, hopefully a Princess cruise ship will be near by.
It’s neat to think that a top notch cruise line (plus Cunard, with the really classy Ocean Liner Queen Mary 2) calls Santa Clarita it’s home.
