Where would you put the new SCV Courthouse?

KHTS has the good news that the state has approved funding for a new Courthouse in town:

Funding for a new courthouse for Santa Clarita Superior Court was approved Monday by the State Public Works Board, the first step in getting a replacement facility built for the aging complex on Valencia Boulevard.

The courthouse and annex currently in use were built in 1971 as part of a Los Angeles County complex that includes space for the sheriff, library and public health. The facilities are overcrowded and have numerous security shortfalls, physical problems and deficiencies with accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

So far, two sites have been proposed. Back int he spring the City set aside 7 acres up Golden Valley for a new courthouse. The County of LA, meanwhile, has donated 10 acres of land “on the ground of Pitchess Detention Facility in Castaic.” The state, however, could decide to put it somewhere else entirely.

KHTS says the new facility would only replace the four courtrooms at the existing Civic Center and would provide for “criminal, traffic, small claims, and limited civil and unlawful detainer proceedings” and include “appropriately-sized courtroom waiting areas, jury assembly and deliberation rooms” as well as other waiting rooms.

So we’re not talking about a full-fledged replacement for the Civic Center; just a new courthouse that handles everything from your petty lawsuit against your neighbor to felons being frog marched to justice.

Considering the amount of traffic such a facility generates, where would you like to see it built? That said, I hate the idea of putting anything “Civic” way up Golden valley way (where the city puts things it doesn’t like, like the homeless shelter), and I also hate putting it at Pitchess, but I recognize that those two locations might offer the least amount of NIMBY resistance.

Why isn’t the W. Bermite property listed as an option? Considering that has always been a discussed option for some time?

It is interesting to discuss where to put the new courthouse while the Bynam School in MA has banned the sale of Christmas items at a holiday boutique. The liberal ACLU types just violate your rights and don’t need a courthouse. Save the money.

A flier sent home with students for the gift shop, which will run from Dec. 1 to Dec. 4 and benefits the school’s PTO, states no Santa, candy canes, stockings, Christmas, Hanukkah or other “religious items” are welcome.

Far away from the civic center. We don’t need the riff raff that typically hangs around the court.

The 21 point plan, Enterprise zones, etc. is not enough of a hand out for business in the SCV. The businesses listed below have taken advantage of the stimulus with no indication of jobs being created. Cheap money at the taxpayers expense.

How can the State of CA fund a new courthouse with a projected deficit of 21 Billion dollars? Time to raise taxes to fill this gap.http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-budget-deficit18-2009nov18,0,7647152.story

Downtown Newhall might be good for a new courthouse, the city has an ongoing effort trying to get people to shop there. The parking might be an issue but if we can extend Lyons over the railroad tracks then there might be some packing options.
