I know folks want to delude themselves into thinking he only plays well with the dim-bulb rubes in Alabama, but I imagine the real reason he is reviled and smeared by the elitist metropolitans is because he is so effective at what he does in exposing the dark underbelly of those who delight in calling themselves progressives.
