So for all you “haters” out their (including myself) who piled onto Johnny Pride and his City Council candidacy in the last couple of days utilizing the material in the original post and bringing new material throught he magic of the “interwebs,” late last night the candidate himself actually posted. In his own words:
I’ve had enough people suggest I respond here that I will do so.
> As have many candidates for office across the country, I have seen the way too many reporters and others twist facts or falsify them completely. Sometimes that is simple bias or incompetence. Other times it may be intentional as they have some background agenda. In all cases, not just the candidate is hurt, but the people of the community to whom he could have brought important reforms, or perhaps stop ones that do not put the needs of the people first.
> I am running because there are things this community needs and that are important to me. I spoke at length with Jonathan Randles at the Signal about my proposals for the SCV. Rather than writing about those things, which are what is really important for this election, he chose to write half truths and to suggest my candidacy is not to be taken seriously. Though certainly protected, it is not the kind of journalism that the first amendment was really meant for. After all, the press is supposed to protect the people by providing them truth and, we all hope, some objectivity.
> Yes my Myspace and website were hacked. I finally got it cleared up with myspace and my hosting company. All is good now. I am a bit of a kidder. I love how into my humor you all are. I’m glad to entertain all of you. However, that’s what I do, Entertain. I’m an actor. Yes it’s true I have played many weird roles in tv shows and movies. In case many of you are not aware, it’s all fake. The speedo’s, the lines, it is all the choice of the director/writer’s/producers. I am just happy to be able to do what I love most, making people smile!
Now I hate to break it to everyone, including Mr. Pride, but the only real drama in this election is who will come fourth, since that person will capture the seat vacated by Bob Kellar in 2012. (Sorry, the incumbents will win.) But I find young Mr. Pride appealing in the same way I find young Harrison Katz appealing, to wit:
- He is 25 yet is aware there IS an election;
- He is very hardworking and ambitious in his field, and is involved with the running of businesses which is hard;
- Not only does he not sport any VISIBLE tatoos or piercings, but his appearance on the dating show seems to indicate he has NO tatoos or piercings;
- From his writing above he can construct a declarative sentence and understands the purpose of paragraphs.
Based on this what more could I want! So I guess I will cast two votes in April: One for Harrison Katz and one for Johnny Pride!
I see his website is down completely now. I’m not sure if I buy the idea that it was hacked. For his sake I hope he has someone to advise him on what should be posted and what should not.
My response to his post s that we don’t really need a 25 year-old “entertainer” on the City Council. I think he should have detailed some of his ideas for Santa Clarita while he had our attention rather than professing his desire to make people smile . . . although we’ve been smiling for sure!
I agree compeltely with ReaderMama.
Mr. Meyer: You call yourself a JP hater but you have advocated for him from the beginning. At one point you even said you would personally walk to help gather signatures.
Along with your comments about the college student who is running, your remarks here indicate that your qualifications for leadership hinge largely upon a lack of tattoos and piercings. As you enthusiastically and repeatedly claim that you will bullet vote for two people with no experience, would you say the goal of your writings is to bring clarity to the voters or to simply confuse the issues and candidates?
It’s fair for everyone to know this so they can decide how much weight to give your opinion on anything related to this election.

SP,
I think Myers was willing to help JP, for the simple entertainment and writing material he would offer. In other words, it would make the election a little more entertaining. Although, I believe when everything is said and done, this is going to one of the ugliest city council elections we will see (lots of mudslinging).
I have but two wishes this season:
1. That I may vote for Mr. Pride not once, not seven times, but seventy times seven.
2. That sarahproof rediscover her sense of humor.
Come on People. We need fresh blood on the council and Johnny fits the bill!

I finally figured it out…Johnny Pride is the SCV’s Zuma Dogg!!!
JP,
Thank you for addressing this blog with civility even tho some of the comments have been made at your expense. That says alot.
Question…How will your long hours during those periods where you are filming effect your performance as a councilman?
sarahpoof:
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but with each passing day the election becomes more of a foregone conclusion. Today we are about 8 weeks away from the election being decided (by March 10 70% of the total votes will have been cast by mail and there will not be enough poll votes to swing the outcome).
After some small initial promise for interest, TimBen’s campaign has fizzled and Dave Gauny’s never had any sizzle to really change the arithmetic landscape. Both are now trying to beg money and votes from the same tired group of people and interests who voted in the last five elections, and the outcome will be the same.
The only slight drama is who between TimBen and Dave Gauny comes fourth, because that person has a REAL opportunity to capture the seat vacated by Kellar in 2012.
So yes I do want Johnny Pride and Harrison Katz to run, because the whole “real” election is just putting me to sleep.
You’re such a downer
Jeff:
I used to have hope until an incumbent who was not even running came first in an at large election. To paraphrase the President:
“For those of you that doubt the power of incumbency in the SCV, in the re-election of Mike McGrath you have found your answer!”
Tim,
What have you got against tattoos?
Tim,
Also, You should learn to spell “tattoos” before you knock them.
Obviously I have tattoos and am offended.
Drive66:
They are forbidden by the Old Testament, as well as piercings and other mutilations. (Tattoos and mutilations were a pagan practice.)
Plus, and this is just my opinion, they make the wearer look like a total goober!
Drive66:
But I am sure your tattoos are totally cool!!!!!
There are A LOT of things forbidden in the old testament, I’m sure you don’t practice them all.
And someone who would say “total goober” probably is one.
Drive66:
No, the Bible lets you goober it up all day long (and I do).
Wasn’t the show where he came out in a speedo a reality show?
Jboyyyyy:
A dating reality show. Johnny says he currently has no girlfiend, so I guess it didn’t work out with Keiko.
This whole thing feels so strange to me. This must be some joke, why is it only now that his website and myspace get criticism that they were “hacked”. And being a model at utan doesn’t make him a small business owner anymore than my last trip to the zoo makes me a koala bear.
Jeff,
I’m 25 and I am aware of the upcoming election, as are most of my friends my age. I don’t think that’s a good reason to like someone who is running for City Council.
And what’s with the tattoo and piercing comment? Having a tattoo or some piercings automatically makes one a bad leader? A bad role model?
Please explain…
I will be proud to vote for Johnny Pride (early and often)!
Go Olenka!!!!!!
Oh, and it was Timmy who actually said it.
Tim
Maybe you are the Red Herring, or just do not want change on the council as the CFO of Landscape Development, who know? Not me!
I can say, we are doing just fine in TimBen’s outreach!
In home fundraisers, Meet and Greet the Candidate at Supermarkets, etc.
So, as we do what the other candidates do, how can say TB and David Gauny are begging money?
Just who are you supporting?
Please visit our website timben.com
and make your campaign donation today
Olenka:
I not saying that one can’t be taken seriously if they have tattoos and piercings, I’m just saying….
Annette:
Isn’t it obvious. I am for Johnny Pride and Harrison Katz!
Jboyyyyy:
Someone had said before that he was a co-owner of the U-Tann at the Promenade. Was that wrong?
Tim,
You’re the only one here I have trouble taking seriously.
Drive66:
Are you one of my five children?
Oops. Sorry, Jeff. My question was meant for Tim. My bad.
The last two posts by Drivv66 and Tim are comedy. haha.
Tim,
No comment on the other question?
Annette:
If I understand the question my assertion was that they are running a campaign just like all the others before them, and the incumbents beg money all the time.
Tim,
No, but I am a father of two kids and consider myself an upstanding member of my community, tattoos and all. I just find narrow minded people annoying.
Tim,
He was a manager/model there, but was no more an owner than any of the other 17 year old girls that managed/modeled for them.
Tim,
Your quote “BOTH (TB & DG) are trying to beg money and votes…”
Shouldn’t it be “ALL” candidates and incumbents are fundraising?
And,if you still choose to use the word “Beg” aren’t they all begging?
It’s a campaign.
Just checking
Annette:
Yes, but they are begging money from the same people who the incumbents beg money from, particularly on the PAC side, which I find ironic.
Drive66:
I don’t like narrow minded people either.
Annette:
Meet the Candidate at SUPERMARKETS?
Not sure how that works well when only 12% of Santa Clarita residents vote but 100% of them eat!
Also,
I didn’t know websites got “hacked”
Tim wrote:
I don’t like narrow minded people either.
Obviously.
I think JP should host/showcase/present/highlight/be the SCV film festival.
TimBen is being way underestimated, but not by the incumbents. I know that Mayor Dude is nervous. He spends a lot of time talking about him. I am confident TimBen will be in in 10. Then maybe this City can be returned back to the people.
I agree with Sneetch 100%
Why is Frank Ferry spending so much time bad mouthing TB if he is not nervous?
Sneetch and Annette:
There will be liberal democracy in Iran before a challenger comes third in a city council election against three incumbents.
Now we might actually have liberal democracy in Iran before we know it, so if TimBen comes third I am here to tell you that Frank Ferry will not come fourth.
Oh and by the way, good analysis based on how “nervous” Frank Ferry is.
Tim – I don’t think Frank is nervous about losing to TimBen. I think he is nervous about “serving” with TimBen.
Tim;
Crystal ball predictions?
Or… CIA information
Annette:
One doesn’t need genius credentials to realize that 25% of the voters that participate in the SCV are so ill-informed they hit that incumbent box on the ballot like a trained gerbil.
This means that an incumbent only needs to convince about one in three informed voters to punch the box for them, while a challenger has to get a 60 to 67% supermajority to achieve an extremely narrow win.
Its just arithmetic, and arithmetic can be punishing.
TM,
The one thing that may change that edge is if people are tired of the same old thing and a challenger (any challenger) comes in 1st on the ballot (NCWD results being proof).
Navigator:
When did that happen? In the last NCWD election the incumbents came first and second by a long ways.
Jboyyyyyy says: …being a model at utan doesn’t make him a small business owner…
In the real world, Jboyyyyy, people have multiple talents and multiple jobs. Pride’s main job is not now and never has been a model. You are picking that up from the Signal that did a hack job on JP. As I understand it, Johnny Pride DID give the Signal his positions on what he wants done in the SCV. THEY DECIDED NOT TO PUBLISH THEM. That IS what people want to know. But, when you have biased and incompetent reporting going on, the electorate will remain in the dark. That happens in state & national elections all the time. That Signal article discussing JP was an embarrassment for free press and keeping people informed. If JP really did provide solid information to them, AND IT WAS IGNORED, the the Signal has clearly chosen how they want to influence the election. Not good at all.
