January 15, 2010 – Daily Brief

  • The 51 year old Canyon Country woman who was shot by her husband in the head (not chest as originally reported) has died. Neighbors of the couple were shocked at the violence. The suspect, 64 year old Gordon Starr, will appear in court today to face murder charges. SIGNAL
  • Someone call John Cusack so he can take us to the ark, because a rain storm of biblical-proportions is coming this weekend. Even I Heart wrote about it, and that guy hardly ever blogs (he speculates about the mighty Santa Clara River.) I HEART PROBABLY THE HEAVIEST RAINS TO HIT THE REGION IN SEVERAL YEARS, says NOAA
  • Roger Gitlin, Signal columnist and head of the SCV Minutemen, will hold a rally protesting illegal immigration tomorrow. Gitlin is opposed to illegal aliens because they come here “for economic salvation, not to become citizens.” He believes there are 25-30 million illegal aliens in the US when virtually every reliable source says there are about 12 million. Johnathan Randles does a good job dispelling the FUD. SIGNAL
  • So who has actually filed the papers to run for City Council and who has not? Tim Myers has the latest intel. I think the process closes out today, so with any luck we’ll soon know the complete field of candidates vying for three of Santa Clarita’s City Council seats. Come on Johnny Pride, don’t let us down.
  • This just in: The Signal’s parent company is NOT filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. It’s another “Morris” company that is. SIGNAL
  • I have it on good authority that a Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant may be looking to expand into SCV, perhaps by the mall.
  • The Valencia Library is set to open February 1 after two months of remodeling. Library officials say there will be more computers, self checkout stands, and in general, it will be more welcoming. Nice work and thank you LA County SIGNAL
  • Nation’s suburbs look beautiful and symmetrical from the air. I bet Valencia looks better than them all METROPOLIS MAG
  • Tom Campbell leaves governor’s race, decides to run for Senate instead. On the GOP side, he’ll face Carly Fiorina and Chuck Devore LA TIMES
  • Frank Ferry tells us about the City’s Blue Ribbon Commission, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary SIGNAL
  • Andre Hollings, Signal columnist, says Obama supporters (and those, like Brian Charles, who were happy to see an African American sworn in as president) might be religious zealots working to elevate Obama to god-hood SIGNAL

Oh ND you mean my YouTube video from a few years back on a support-the-troops rally?

As for immigration, I too have modified my position substantially since Prop 187 back in 1994. I think there can be a happy medium here.

So you think illegal aliens ARE coming here to gain citizenship?
