Shorter Bob Kellar: I don’t care what you say, we’re keeping this dog. We’ve named him Checkers.
Scene of the crime was actually quite far from “the den of sin”
Is George Runner nuts? When I see someone driving poorly (not paying attention, going to slow, not moving when lights change, straying from lanes) 9 times out of 10 they are either talking on their phone or texting. This is flat out dangerous. Driving is not a right – it is a privilege and comes with many rules and responsibilities.
Will George argue that testing for booze is intrusive too? In my mind, the distration caused and poor driving performance is similiar with both. Could I then use a laptop when driving? Watch a movie? Play cards? Read the Paper?
While I hate to say pass a law to restrict this, I’d support it because folks just can’t control their behavior in this regard (just like some drinkers).
I get that Gitlin wants to support Bob Kellar, but what a weird way of doing it.
He says he wants more media coverage, but all of the bigger newspapers are running headlines like “Calif. councilman defends ‘proud racist’ remark at immigration rally” (USA Today Blog) and “Santa Clarita councilman calls himself ‘proud racist’” (LA Daily News). And some of the stories leave out the Roosevelt quotation and other elements that give some context to Kellar’s words. More coverage is just building more of a perception that Bob Kellar=racist for those who don’t fully dig into the story.
Then there’s Gitlin’s plan to use this event to ask other City Council members how they feel about illegal immigration. Some people can’t comprehend that one can be against illegal immigration and not racist; using the Kellar speech to start a conversation on illegal immigration isn’t going to change these people’s minds.
Where is the den of sin?
Hey, George Runner, Wake Up, Talk to Law enforcement before you make a remark like this. Proving texting while driving is so easy, it’s called – Phone Records. That’s how they concluded the young woman who was killed on Constellation Drive last year, was texting instead of paying attention to the city bus bearing down on her.
There’s apparently a Daily News editorial in today’s paper about Kellar, but I can’t find it online.
As for the Den of Sin- yes, you’re right mike. But that’s where it started. I’m telling you, nothing good comes from the Den of Sin.

IHeart, this gets to the crux of the matter. Gitlin and co. and so single-mided and obsessive about this issue, they want attention at any given moment, at whatever cost. As though our city council could craft immigration policy! Do you recall his long-lived Signal column? They eventually booted him because he talked about the exact same thing every week.
The funny thing is, Gitlin’s comments to Josh Premako, which sounded moderate and sensible to me, outraged the organizers of the event so much that they have openly discussed barring him from future events.
The reason I bring up the Checkers example is because Kellar would like to make this about the substance of the comments for which he was initially called a racist by some faceless individuals – as though that were enough to draw the attention of the national media. Whether or not he’s correct on the assertion of English-only or if he’s accurately assessing the fiscal impact of illegal immigration, he made a reckless comment to a bunch of yahoos at an event he a) shouldn’t have attended in the first place and b) should have left when he saw it for what it was.
And of course, as several have mentioned, this is a crystal-clear violation of the City’s ethics policy.
Thanks for the link re.den of sin, I will definitely stay away from that area.
Media does not do nuance. Thank Bob and the Friends of Bob for bringing a firestorm to our City. And will the immigration debate be moved one iota forward? No.
Thanks to Bob Kellar for the piece in the Signal. Very well stated.
Ah Vince. There is hope for you yet.
TimBen you are the worst kind of hypocrite. Anything to gain support and win a seat. You talking about ethics is enough to make me throw up…
So you think Bob Kellar violated ethics policy, huh? Could there be some rancor because Bob did not back down from your bullying? Do you take a vote and ask other people what they agree to support from the organizations you are on before you proselytize? Do you always mention that you don’t speak on behalf of….? I know you constantly remind everyone about your former Council position. I know some of your trusted associates do not make clear whom they speak for. One of them presents his personal viewpoints and indicates they have the support of an entire group of people without even acknowledging there is a process for approving formal positions or asking our opinion. A process which he totally ignores and if anyone tires to broach the subject, paints them the bad guy just like you do. He tries to discredit anyone who disagrees with him just like you are doing with Bob. As I write this, I realize why you and your friend get along so well. You are both very much alike. The words dishonest opportunist and hypocrite just keep coming back to me. Clean up your own house before you throw rocks at a decent man, TBB. You may get hit by the ricochets.
Save it Annette and company. You would blindly follow TBB right off the cliff.
Kellar has only proven, once again, that he stands up for what he thinks is right. Could he have worded things differently? Of course. The fact that he even spoke at all has given fodder to those who agree with the “come hither and receive” mantra of a welfare state.
I’ve checked this thread twice, and I don’t see Annette in here, Berta, really no reason for your unwarranted attack when Annette has not even commented. I really believe it is possible for adults to participate on blogs minus the nasty insults.
Berta says ” Save it Annette and company. You would blindly follow TBB right off the cliff.”
BERTA YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR!!
I have not commented on this and so naming me and stating what I would or would not do is pure conjecture on your part!
Pauline and Annette: you consider saying “Save it Annette and company. You would blindly follow TBB right off the cliff.” an attack? Then what do you consider what is happening to Bob? Or for that matter me on this blog?
And Pauline I find it interesting that yet again you chide me, but not once did you say one solitary thing to anyone of those many taking very cheap shots at me. Your comments lose their intended effect when you pick and choose who you rebuke.
So tell me then, Annette what say you regarding my comments? You aren’t going to defend TBB and say I threatened you or something like that? Please. I was just trying to spare you the effort. But by all means….
Berta you are the hypocrite.
Yesterday you posted saying that we should all respect each others opinion. Then you chastise anyone who has an opinion or not that conflicts with yours.
Wake up, you are creating your own problems.
I’m not chastising anyone for having a different opinion, Annette. I welcome and enjoy listening to other opinions even if I disagree. Otherwise, I would just talk to myself all the time. I know Gramps and others; I already am according to you, ha ha! I’m chastising Pauline for rebuking one person for “supposedly” attacking you but never saying one word when others say much worse about Bob or me. And this is not the first time she has done so in reference to me. Seems at best inconsistent, at worst you can figure it out.
You seem to interpret anything I say incorrectly. We used to be able to talk Annette and I have nothing personal against you. I just don’t see the point of having a discussion if you are going to constantly make an issue out of something where none exists. Like saying I threatened you when I was asking you to stop making it between you and me. You can and do support TBB. Good for you. I don’t, but we should still be able to talk about things without you making it something it is not.
Tell you what Annette. I’ll throw out the olive branch. I have nothing against you and have never meant to offend you, if I have. I would love to be able to discuss things with you in a respectful way, personalities and allegiances aside. What say you?
Berta, if you name me in a thread that I have not posted in, I will reply to what you have said about me.
Your quote “Save it Annette and company. You would blindly follow TBB right off the cliff.”
I do take exception to you posting about me because you do not know my personal thoughts.
No more from me on this issue because it is NOT about you/me.
Poor, poor Berta. There she goes again!
Whatever, Timben. But I’m not going away…
Heil Kellar! Why are all these left wing liberals so outraged that the man proclaims to being proud to be a racist? When is the rest of the SCV going wake up and don the hoods too? Enough of the wetbacks taking what is ours. Rise up my white brethren and stand shoulder to shoulder with Bob Kellar. If we had more Bob Kellars in office can make the white race once again the master race. The mexicans are just the beginning, more to follow after we eradicate the plague from south of the border!!!
Mr. Neidermeyer you are indeed a wise man. I admire men like you and Mr. Kellar, I wish my college professors were more like you both. I too am a proud racist, and I would be honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with Bob Kellar. I hope he runs for president, he can count on my vote.
You last two guys need to go sleep off your drunk!!!
