  • An 11 year old 5th grade boy read aloud an essay to Saugus Board members on why they shouldn’t close Bouquet Canyon and Emblem Schools (please don’t make my Bobcats extinct, he said). The board “dabbed their eyes” with tissue and closed the schools anyway. The closures will save the Saugus School District about $1.1 million per year. As for the boy? His essay is going to state legislators. SIGNAL
  • The Los Angeles Times has finally weighed in on Kellargate, and it’s not pretty. Reporter Ann Simmons recorded a few of the statements given in support of Bob Kellar at Tuesday’s City Council meeting and said “friction over undocumented immigrants settling and working in the city is not new.” She says the City tried to forbid day laborers from standing on street corners in 1997 but a US District Court tossed out the ordinance. Car keys in hand, the perps would then go to the victim’s car, steal credit cards, and place other stolen credit cards belonging to other people in the victim’s wallet. Deputies searched the suspect’s house and found over 200 stolen credits cards, $100,000 worth of high end watches and other gear. Jsut remember the commission for re-districting is only drawing the boundaries for state senate and assembly not federal! The congressional districts will be drawn by the state, they are keeping it old school (especially given the US Supreme Court ruling regarding Texas!)…

Copy of an email regarding LA Times article:

    Hello Ms. Simmons.
I am one of those supporters who broke into tears you reference in your article regarding Councilmember Bob Kellar.
As a point of discussion, you site statistics regarding white residents and then later regarding “Latino” residents. How would you count me using those labels? My race is Caucasian, my ethnic background is Hispanic (not Latino just because the Census Bureau says so). There are many of “us”. Do I count twice, once in each category, or only once and in which category? You are doing what so many others do and mixing your “labels” into one. I would question any numbers using those labels from whatever the source.
    Regards,

Just thought I would spotlight how ridiculous some of these quoted statistics are?
You don’t care, that’s fine. But the real “issue” is not going away. Nor am I…
These “labels” may affect the US Census unless they are more accurate which affects redistricting, representation, and federal dollars. Do I have your attention now…

  7. Money says:

No, Berta, you don’t have our attention. Please leave us all alone. You are turing into the scvtalk troll.

  8. Berta González-Harper says:

Money: Your dislike for me and my posts is well documented. It is not just “your” democracy, dear.

  9. Blazing Monk says:

Nope you type a lot but rarily say much of any substance. Labels will not affect the overall count taken in the census, which is the only thing that matters in the end.

If this does not offend you nothing will!

Mr. Kellars comments are understood by those that don’t condemn free speech. Spinning Kellar as a racist serves to support those that do not believe in the rule of law. When Bob votes to not support discretionary spending for things like dog parks and bike lanes, perhaps eyes will open to the true issue.
