“Lost” was a pretty good series through season 5, especially when watching it on DVD in a blitz mode. Season 6 really defined the title “Lost”. Hopefully season 7 is better understood.
Sure, the dude is entitled to his lawn.
He is also entitled to pay the REAL cost including higher water bills, pollution cleanup (to remove poisons and fertilizer from the runoff), and the ever-threatened chloride treatment plant. I bet he whines about those costs, too, perhaps even blaming Lynen personally for them!
Or maybe, just maybe, there of defining personal freedom as the “right” to unlimited consumption, subsidized by others, has passed, and he doesn’t have that “right” after all.
But he won’t get it until his tap runs dry. Rampant overconsumers live in a state of denial until it bites them in the leg. Then they try to find a scapegoat, rather than blame themselves.
Clean water and air belong to all of us, not just to each of us to consume in unlimited amounts. That’s reality, not just a view of environmentalists like Lynne.
