It's Kellar's 'playing to the masses' around the topic of illegal immigration that prevents any progress. Kellar has not moved the ball forward one inch on seriously addressing the problem, and in fact, he has made it tougher. If you really want these problems addressed, you have to tone down the rhetoric and the drama. Unless these politicians start talking about realistic policy and legislative solutions, it is nothing more than the rantings of demogoguery. I view as bringing attention to this issue and getting the dialogue going. I agree our City Council has many issues of pressing concern. I also agree we have other elected officials. Just because you view one official as responsible for city items and another for federal items, that doesn’t mean the other elected representatives should not know what is of concern to the people they represent. One way or another everything, health care, immigration, education, etc boils down to the local level. How it affects you and me personally. Where you and I appear to disagree is who, what, where, and when our elected officials should do something regarding illegal immigration. I do not believe every problem is attributable to illegal aliens but I think it is one issue that needs to be resolved once and for all. If for no other reason that we can then move on to other important issues instead of bringing it all back up every couple of years. We would not be having a conversation about Bob’s comments, racism, illegal immigration, how much it costs the California economy, whether the City Council should take a position, etc if the issue had already been dealt with successfully. Getting the discussion under way and moving towards real solutions is better than ignoring the huge gorilla in the room. ND: You view it as wasted time. One thing they could do today is draft a letter to all of our State and Federal officials expressing their concern on the impact to local funding this issue is having and raising the concerns the residents of the City of Santa Clarita have expressed regarding this matter. It may not have any impact but at least they would be letting Buck et al know that they hear us loud and clear.
