The YouTube blogger bundles all the anti-illegal alien rage he can into a 10:21 video (including pictures of day laborers standing on RailRoad) and even works me into the video at 6:30:
In all these anti-illegal immigration videos, I keep hearing Lee Greenwood. So let me reply with a message from someone they are sure to appreciate, someone who never shied away from social justice and compassion for those who have less than us, Big John Cash:

What!?
No painting of a bald eagle head in front of a billowing flag with a tear in its eye?
The best comment: “There’s an ‘indulgence’ for these invaders from a foreign country who don’t even come into our country quietly; they’re obnoxious, aggressive and scaring people!”
WHAT THE…..
Now we know some more of the citizens of SCV who objected so ‘quietly’ to Vallarta’s Market coming into town!
Why is there so much fear put into getting a point across. Yes, illegal immigration is ILLEGAL; but do people seriously believe they are costing us jobs? Go apply at the carwash, local resturant busing tables, housecleaner, gardner, hotel worker (scrubbing toilets), nanny or crop picker for UNDER MINIMUM WAGE, then come back and tell America that illegal immigrants are taking our jobs!
Oh yeah, BTW, those men that stand looking for ‘day work’ in order to feed their families that night, really scare the heck out of me….NOT!
Oh yeah, BTW, those men that stand looking for ‘day work’ in order to feed their families that night, really scare the heck out of me….NOT!
Well, one thing that should be a concern is the fact that the culture as a whole does not tend to value betterment in education. Some do, but the overall majority do not.
Case in point is several LAUSD public school teachers I know personally explaining their frustration with 2nd language learners and the way they retard the direction of the class because everything has to be translated for them, thus depriving the “regular” English speaking kids. Additionally, these teachers tell me they don’t give homework because they won’t do it, and don’t particularly care. Their parents insist they work rather than learn.
Now perhaps folks here will say those are anecdotal examples, but I have had at least 5, long term teaching friends, who teach in Pasadena, the Valley, in LA proper, and here in SCV, independently relay these stories to me for at least 10 years now. S
So if the more progressives here wishes to favor an illegal, third world peasant class taking part in our society, it is only to everyone’s advantage to change this mindset.
You have your anecdotes fred and I have mine.
MY first boss after college was the daughter of an illegal immigrant. He came to the US in the 60s from Mexico, worked as a custodian, eventually became a citizen, had a family and started his own custodial business.
His two daughters graduated in the top 10% of their class at UCLA in Literature and Engineering and today are successful career women.
”
So if the more progressives here wishes to favor an illegal, third world peasant class taking part in our society, it is only to everyone’s advantage to change this mindset.”
This coming from the Christian on this board? You think God is a respecter of any single nation or political construct or race? What a small-minded man you are.
What I don’t understand is how can people be ok with illegal immigrants coming to our land but not ok with people killing other people. I mean they are both against the law and laws were made to protect people and this country. If we throw one law out the window, then why not throw all of them out.
People willing to work for less than minimum wage are a problem. They undercut everyone in the end. If nobody took the underpaying job the rate would go up. IMO
You’re right CastaicClay, but businesses are the ones offering these jobs and the small bussiness’s are the ones suffering, not the big corporation; again, car washes, hotels, resturants, landscaping, produce, etc…
Heck just saw an article today in the times that Anthem insurance has increased their individual (small business/part time employees) insurance rates 39%!!!
Yeah, it’s the men standing on corners trying to find odd jobs; the maid working for 40 dollars a pop; the field worker or car washer or busboy/girl making less then minimum wage, that are robbing us!!! 39 F’N PERCENT!!!
“This coming from the Christian on this board? You think God is a respecter of any single nation or political construct or race? What a small-minded man you are.”
I am shocked, a Christian with a crappy attitude toward life…? How can it be?
Poke aside, I agree with Jeff and Fred there are immigrants that make this country better and there are immigrants that do there best to sink the boat. Immigration reform has to do it best to weed them out.
“the culture as a whole does not tend to value betterment in education.”
Wow, you are something else. I also love that your anecdotes are people who interact with immigrants. Get out a little bit, reach out and touch someone. Visit a CSU or UC campus.
This isn’t a peasant class, far from it, but if they were, would they be worthy of your derision? Strange how you view the least of thee.
Unbelievable.
All I did was simply point out the culture they are coming from. It’s the truth. I am not judging them for that, but the facts of the matter is that a peasant oriented mindset drastically impacts how you intersect with our culture.
Now perhaps you want to deny this by calling me names and citing statistics, but the facts are facts.
Jeff writes,

Yes, most folks who seek to live biblically are declared small-minded, so I take that more as a compliment. The Bible is explicitly clear that God judges those nations that forget His law. The Bible isn’t too authoritative for you, so I am probably wasting my time citing Psalm 9:17 for an example.
Question Jeff: Do you believe God is a “respecter of persons” with the concentration camp nation of North Korea as equally as He is with the United States? The clitoris chopping culture of Somalia?
Look it: I would agree with you guys in a lot of your dismissal of the “Minute-men” attitude against Mexican immigrants. I think they sinfully demonize them. Michelle Malkin, bless her heart, is probably one of the worse who galls me every time she blogs about a drunk driving illegal who kills a family, or shoots a police officer. White American citizens kill people in drunk driving accident and white American criminal citizens shoot cops all the time.
At the same time I sympathize with their anger with how our current immigration laws are ignored. It is not “racist” to argue that they should be more vigorously enforced, and it certainly isn’t racist or “unChristian” to point out the detriments of their cultural background and they impact ours.
Fred:
You better get your story straight before you meet Jesus. This is why we need to send our oldest son to University in Europe for a term, so he can pull his head out of his white suburban ass.
Fred: the last paragraph of your above comment sums it up nicely!
Timothy,
Thankfully my salvation is not merited upon whether I please the sensibilities of muddled multi-culturalists.
Racist:
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
NOPE….I would never refer to myself as a ‘proud racist’….NEVER under any circumstance would I indicate that my RACE is superior; If it’s the lawmakers that Mr.Kellar and others have a problem with, then take it to Sacramento, Washington..to the TOP, but I’m still going to tip the carwasher really, really, well!!!
“All I did was simply point out the culture they are coming from.”
And African Americans come from a culture of great basketball players and hip hop artist. Jews comes from a culture that likes Bagels and is good with money… Seriously!
Fred sounds just like I think Jesus would… LOL
Oh NO BGH found this thread…
I guess people lash out at us because WE have a culture, WE speak our native language, practice OUR ancesteral rituals, keep close with our relatives, and are not ashamed to do so. I KNOW where I came from, and unlike others I am proud of it! My parents are illiterate, they attended all of our school meetings and functions in their dirt soiled clothing straight after work from the fields of Fresno County, my brother is a Fireman-Manufacturing Engineer, my other brother is the only person at his job who can fix it’s heavy machinery, my sisters are CNA’s at a Convelescent Hospital (where most are abandoned Anglo Seniors) One sister has a Masters from UCLA in Education and I am a Foster Mom/ Afterschool Enrichment Art Teacher. Some of us are here due to circumstance, a broken promise from the Bracero Program, an American Dream turned into a nightmare. Stop criticizing people as a whole, there is bad in every race, culture, religion etc. If our culture offends you, well, sorry that I have one and you don’t.
Kari, well put. Thank you for sharing. It’s incredible what sort of generalizations people can make about people they don’t know or understand.
Ivogel: I will take one more stab at this. Bob Kellar was referring to what others said he sounded like for saying that illegal immigration is a problem. “They” said he sounded like a racists. He said if that is what you want to call me, ok I am….
Many people are tired of having these labels thrown around to try to discredit and discourage people from bringing up this subject. There are real racists on both sides of this issue. Bob Kellar is not a racist. If he were, he would have called me a dumb, insert ethnic slur here, long ago since I have had many heated discussions with him on multiple issues. He would have said monies raised at numerous charitable events at his home or which he hosted or emceed could only be used for “white” kids, which he never has. When we asked if the City would celebrate Hispanic Heritage month when I was Chair of the Hispanic Business Committee and Bob was in his first turn as Mayor, he could have said, “No I won’t be a part of that.” Instead for the first time in the history of the City, Hispanic Heritage Month was officially recognized. He attended many of our formative HBC meetings and most of our fundraisers dedicated to raising money for Scholarships’ during the time I was involved. Are those the actions of a racist? He has supported many other things relating to Americans and those here legally of any race or ethnicity. He does not support illegal immigration. He is not a racist. He is an American who wants to see the law upheld. So am I.
Fred- okay that makes more sense. I’m used to be you being thoughtful; your comment about “peasant culture” wasn’t thoughtful.
After reflecting a bit I see your point. You’re a biblical literalist. You literally believe God destroyed Gomorrah because of a few gay men. And he destroyed the world via flood because of man’s sins.
So, according to your worldview, I suppose I could see how God could favor one country or culture over another. If that falls along racial lines, well, so be it.
In my view, if there is a God, he is the God of the entire universe, the galaxies, the quasars, pulsars and everything else. It is a giant conceit to think that such a being cares for cultural traits or political constructs, let alone my day-to-day needs, my prayers for the team to win or to get a raise.
But in your bronze-aged worldview, I can see how you would come to that conclusion. It’s even consistent with TULIP and the elect; the elect could come from any culture, right?
Fred, their is detriment in every culture, you are just focusing on one culture. That is the problem, stop blaming one group for the mis managing of taxpayer dollars. That’s all. Be mad at those that allow and approve taxpayer dollars that everyone says ends up in the pockets if illegal immigrants.
“Be mad at those that allow and approve taxpayer dollars that everyone says ends up in the pockets if illegal immigrants.”
EXACTLY!
BGH: I would NEVER under ANY cirumstance embrace the term racist…that’s all I’m saying. I’ve known racist’s (some deny, some PROUDLY);I’ve scene racism. I NEVER want to be catagorized with that group, name…definition!
It’s just UGLY!
Jeff writes:
your comment about “peasant culture” wasn’t thoughtful.
(Fred) How exactly wasn’t it “thoughtful?” Maybe you think it is harsh, but I am just stating fact.
You literally believe God destroyed Gomorrah because of a few gay men. And he destroyed the world via flood because of man’s sins.
(Fred). I believe those were two historical events. Except with Sodom and Gomorrah, it wasn’t a “few” gay men, but a lot of gay men.
I suppose I could see how God could favor one country or culture over another. If that falls along racial lines, well, so be it
(Fred) God favored the Jews along racial lines for nearly 2,500 years. See Amos 3 for example. But they were not “favored” for something they did, they were favored by God’s grace.
It is a giant conceit to think that such a being cares for cultural traits or political constructs, let alone my day-to-day needs, my prayers for the team to win or to get a raise.
(Fred) Well, again, the Bible is quite clear that God is very much involved with all of these things. I can give you some passages on that as well if you wish.
the elect could come from any culture, right?
(Fred) They do. From every culture. But that is separate from what I am talking about above.
Kari: I am not blaming your culture. I happen to like it for the family issues you noted before. But the fact of the matter remains that all cultural values are not the same to the detriment of one over another.
And to CastaicClay:
My husband is a legal resident, but he too will stand on the corners for work…and you will say why!? The same employer he got laid off from, will get rid of him because he was paying him $25 an hour, and hired and keep all of those my husband knows are illegal and will pay them minimum wage. Unemployment benefits are half of what he made and not enough to cover our bills, but too much to qualify for welfare or healthcare. So in my eyes I blame the employers 100% and the agencies that don’t enforce the laws. People will work for minimum wage because they are hungry, trust me they are not getting rich off of that.
So I am not saying that you, but when many of us see those guys standing at Home Depot or in front of U-Haul, you will see my husband too. Trying to make a living and put food on the table for our foster kids and me.
PS I am so proud of my husband for standing on the corner to help maintain our home. He is not embarrassed by it, but has been jipped by many in pay… but it’s better than nothing. And to the “white man” who he helped to cut down your trees and didn’t pay him…may god bless you and fill your table with an abundance of food and a home full of love and joy. Now do you see???? Why these types of words, articles, opinions offend people. When you live it, you will understand.
Ivogel: We have come full circle. I do agree completely with your last comments.
I would only add that I do not believe Bob Kellar “embraced” the term. He was unhappy about the illegal immigration situation. He knew he would be called that word which is thrown about so casually, which is why he said what he did. Most of us who raise this issue aloud are called awful words. No one should be categorized as a racist simply for wanting immigration law upheld or these issues openly discussed.
I am standing and applauding right now Kari!
I am as proud of your husband (though not as much) as you are. He is an example to his family and others, as to what it means to be a MAN; not just a father and husband, but a MAN.
I hope that everything works out and I know your family will perservere and be stronger because of your (and your husbands) attitude!
I’m not one to say ‘bless you’, but I will say…RIGHT-ON and PEACE to you and your family!
I’ve never been referred to as a racist for standing against anything ‘illegal’ BGH, have you?
Sorry, we disagree on this. He used (embraced) a ‘category’ to make a point; a category I would NEVER want to be a part of, for ANY reason.
Um, I never heard Johnny Black say he wore black for the illegals …..
Jeff, way off base here, as always.
I support immigration, I just want everyone using the front door.
Giving amnesty to the illegals is a slap in the face to all those that have done it the right way and those that are in line right now doing it the right way.
How fair is it to give these “illegals” that are already here special treatment?
Are they better then those that did it the right way?
Why do they get a free pass to the front of the line while the other wait?
I’m sure those LEGAL immigrants are not happy. I wouldn’t be.
Ivogel:
Thank you! In my culture we are urged to save money for a rainy day, my husband has been out of work for about 2 years, unemployment benefits will be exhausted in 12 weeks, I was laid off from a local school district in June of 2009, we do not collect welfare and never will because it’s not how my Daddy raised me. My MACHO man changes diapers and feeds our foster daughter that I plan to adopt with the financial help of my family (a cultural value). I am trying to do a positive thing in this economy by taking in children that the government cannot place. I have 2 empty bedrooms and cannot have children of my own. Instead of being angry about the economy I am putting in my seed to help it.
SCV Guy: How many times do I have to repeat myself?
Make them pay a penalty but put them on the path to citizenship. Close the borders.
In other words, pretty much what George Bush tried to do in 2006 before Conservatives shot him down.
“Make them pay a penalty but put them on the path to citizenship. Close the borders. ”
I believe that was Geroge W’s plan in 2007 which was nixed, the fine was $5000 which is a lot for someone on limited income. I don’t know if they had payment option or what.
Ivogel: Yes, I have been called names for discussing illegal immigration. Such as sell out, coconut, and racist. Some posters here have alluded to such, but not out right said it, with comments like “but you …”
I do not care what they say because I know who, what I am and what is my heart.
“I do not care what they say because I know who, what I am and what is my heart.”
Too bad Mr. Kellar didn’t say those same words….
Speaking on the path to citizenship. Pay a fine, blah blah blah. Listen to this. So it’s okay, for an American to buy a wife from a Marriage Broker in China, guarantee her a resident alien visa in exactly one year (btw she is here on Medi-Cal because she is ill and they don’t have healthcare), but if an American goes to Mexico and marries a Mexican they are NOT guaranteed a visa and not given a guaranteed date, plus they have to pay thousands of dollars just to be accused of being paid to marry for a green card. This happened, my ex coworker bought a wife in China and she is now on Medi-Cal but it wasn’t questioned, My American best-friend married a Mexican and she was forced to be in Cd. Juarez the most dangerous place in the world, for a month to wait and see “if” he would be allowed into the United States because they accused her of getting paid by him. There are double standards for Mexicans….that’s why Mexicans come here illegally. There is no end in sight is there.
Btw…everyone at my old job thought he was crazy and the whole bought a wife thing is so hilarious!!! LMAO
“So it’s okay, for an American to buy a wife from a Marriage Broker in China, guarantee her a resident alien visa in exactly one year”
Wow left field… it takes 3 years actually. Now you are getting into morals because it is legal to marry for citizenship love isn’t always a component of marriage.
@Jeff: repeat all you want. My response doesn’t change. No amnesty!
Can yo answer me this:
Why do you think its fair to give the “illegals” amnesty when there are many, many waiting in line doing it the RIGHT way?
Why are we giving anyone special treatment over others?
Do you really hear yourself?
Put yourself in the shoes of the LEGAL immigrant who did it right and had to wait years. How do you thing that person feels?
Lol…it was 1 year at that time…it was just a “real” scenario I wanted to share. I think it is a trip. I still laugh when I think about it and see them in the grocery store.
“Put yourself in the shoes of the LEGAL immigrant who did it right and had to wait years. How do you thing that person feels?”
That’s nice he is all warm and fuzzy… where do you stand on health care reform and people that are unable to get it because of pre-existing conditions… how do you think those people feel?
“I still laugh when I think about it and see them in the grocery store.”
See who in the grocery store?
Ivogel: Can you or anyone else on this blog honestly say you have never said something that you honestly felt but that you could have said better using different verbiage?
Kari:
So your husband is collecting unemployment and working for cash? Is he declaring his cash income to the EDD or collecting his full benefit? Where does the responsibility begin? With the next guy right. Great.
The guy who bought his wife in China.
We waited 9 years… and $1000.00 per family member, there was 8 of us. Eventhough the Bracero Program was going to give us residency, in exchange for my father’s sweat and tears in labor camps, but I guess that was thrown out the window when he was no longer needed.
CastaicClay: Ha ha you though you had me!!! For your information we actually do report….eventhough it is a menial amount. It is beneficial to us to report he is working odd jobs for the adoption process of our Foster Baby, and he asks to get paid in a check so we can have a copy for CPS, so again, don’t assume. He wants a steady job, we want our own family and we want to provide for it ourselves. Btw he only has 12 weeks left and if he does odd jobs we will file a 1099, because I know you are going to be nosy and ask, and even then we won’t be standing in the awful welfare line! LOL LOL LOL LOL
BGH said –
“Ivogel: Can you or anyone else on this blog honestly say you have never said something that you honestly felt but that you could have said better using different verbiage?”
I know I can’t Berta. BUT I can say that I apologized for not using “different verbiage.”
PS I heart Ivogel.
Sneetch said “BUT I can say that I apologized for not using “different verbiage”
I ‘m sure you did if it served your purpose.
Kari
I did not “assume” anything. I just asked.
The comment on responsibility was for all to see, not meant to be directed at your family. Sorry it came off that way.
P.S. Why do you have to bring in the race card?
i.e. And to the “white man”. What is the point there?
Not so funny, not so funny, not so funny.
Still waiting for Jeff’s response…..
Why do you think its fair to give the “illegals” amnesty when there are many, many waiting in line doing it the RIGHT way?
Why are we giving anyone special treatment over others?
In answer to your question BGH, I speak only honestly, however if I disagree with someone I will do so ‘respectfully’ and yes I choose my words carefully. I believe that illegal immigration hs been ‘allowed’ to get out of control (as I’ve said before) because companies, bussiness and the AMERICAN people profit from cheap labor; that is my opinion. As much as people will moan and groan and say ugly things about people ‘taking’ our jobs and tax payers money, someone is benefiting from this and I believe that many of our politicians are as well.
Because I have seen and heard so much of the bigotry, racism and hatred that some have for others, it makes me more aware of what I may say and how I may say it. People refer to it as being ‘politically correct’, I just call it plan old respect. I’m also very aware of my surroundings (and who I’m speaking to and about) and if what I might say could be misunderstood.
I will immediatley clarify or correct a misunderstood expression of words I may use; but I honestly cannot remember the last time I’ve had to do that.
Freedom of speech is something that all Americans thankful for, however I believe that ‘right’ can be abused by some and respect for others is immediatley forgotten.
