The out of town nativist crowd that created a storm of controversy in January is back for round two. On their forum, they’ve announced the details for their next Anti-Immigration Rally and they are really pulling out all the stops this time.
The February 27 rally in front of the County Civic Center will feature several speakers running for office and a few elected officials, including Bob Kellar:

I should be surprised, but I’m not. After all this, after three weeks of fighting and negative attention, Kellar is not just doubling down, he’s taking it to the next stage.
It’s obvious now that Bob Kellar likes the attention he’s gotten over this matter. He wants more of it. He’s thriving off of it and the resulting negative storm of attention on our community. He even rebuked Buck McKeon after the Congressman said he should apologize, and the nativists in that forum cheered.
He’s embracing the controversy to the extent that he wants “I’m a proud racist” to be his legacy in this community; more than his “No” vote on Mayo, more than his reputation for being fair and approachable, more than the warm feelings he engenders among many (including me), he chooses this as the capstone of his elected career. Bob Kellar, illegal alien fighter.
He chooses to associate with preachers who condemn illegals as evil, he chooses to associate with men who tell us the solution to our problems is to buy more guns and ammo. He chooses to appear at a rally organized in part by a man who advocates the assassination of political leaders. Those who harass Latino motorists look up to our Councilman as a hero figure, someone who finally gets it.
And David Gauny, the man “grateful” to be endorsed by Kellar, is grabbing the anti-illegal immigrant sentiment by the horns, making it his issue. He is the guy you vote for if you’re upset about day laborers. He is the guy you vote for if you believe the 7,000 illegal immigrants, day laborers and their children in this town are harming your livelihood, your property values, your family. He’s no longer even talking about the city, except to criticize it for its inability to enforce federal laws.
Gauny chooses to be affiliated with all this too. He is the next generation Kellar. He’s campaigning in front of these out of town extremists on February 27.
At first I had trouble telling the difference between TimBen Boydston and David Gauny. They both offered decent criticisms about how the City ran; they both offered ideas about how the City could grow in a sustainable and smart fashion.
But I’m confused no longer. One need only compare Boydston’s reasonable, compassionate and mature remarks at the January 26 council meeting with Gauny’s condemnation of the entire City Council, save for Bob Kellar. His singling out of Frank Ferry when Ferry pointed out that Kellar was picking on the poorest of the poor. And his subsequent statements in which he all but suggests we go after people rather than let “illegal aliens gather and loiter in public each and every day.”
The crazy thing is, this just might work for Gauny. Judging by the SCV’s reaction to Kellargate, there’s enough fear, uncertainty and doubt in this community -about the economy, about Obama, about immigration, about healthcare, about jobs- that this kind of demagoguery might actually help Gauny. And that’s what is truly depressing, more so even than a good man like Kellar tarnishing his entire elected career over a careless line for which he still refuses to apologize.
The Right has always used fear as motivation for supporting them. Fear Obama Death Panels. Fear Big Government (except the government that tells you who you can marry, sleep with, or what your doctor can do for you). Fear of Elevated Threat Levels, …
My feeling from the beginning was that worse than what Kellar said was who he said it to. To share the stage with a hate group was worse than uttering some inelegant, hypothetical “if, then” statement. You might say, though I would be hesitant to agree, that he didn’t know what he was getting into. Maybe he wasn’t paying attention when the pastor called these immigrants evil, or when Frank Jorge called the president a communist that is concealing his Kenyan birth. Maybe he didn’t realize what was going on when the crowd started hurling slurs and epithets at a Latino passerby. Maybe so.
I’m sure he didn’t have a dossier on Frank Jorge, as we do now, so he wasn’t aware that he was being hosted by an aspiring terrorist. But he knows now, and David Gauny certainly knows. Nevertheless, they will be taking the stage on the 27th, hosted by the same out of town right-wing fringe gang that brought us the first Hatefest.
Dave, why don’t you take the time to Google some of these other names, like Lupe Moreno and Ted Hayes. I’d encourage the readers of SCVtalk to do the same and see if you would be comfortable voting for a guy that would welcome this element into our town.
Once upon a time, Dave Gauny seemed like some post-partisan, slightly right-of-center, reformist type. In time, the onion has peeled away. He’s actually the candidate gunning for the far right, taking the horns of an ugly, divisive issue and playing openly to the politics of racial resentment. In the meantime, he’s had almost nothing to say about any issues of genuine importance in this election. I guess after all, he’s just some guy who didn’t want something built in his backyard.
When you look at the personal stories of the Rabbi and Ted Hayes, they are extremely compelling, but they have now jumped on this bandwagon and they provide a beard for the not insignificant portion of people that will show up that are anti-Semitic and borderline white supremacist.
David Gauny has abandoned everything he believed in. I used to think my ticket was Gauny, Boydston, and Katz, I will now vote for Ferry over David.
Petz does not want to provoke a fight on the front page, but several things are worth noting.
Those who criticize Bob Kellar, and David Gauny for there personal affiliations were absolutely silent or approved of the connections between Obama and the Reverend Jeremiah Wright (&^%$ that was his personal pastor), Father Pfleger, William Ayers (bombed the Pentagon) and Bernadine Dorne.
There just seems to be more than a little hypocrisy shown here for all to see.
If you want to take this in to the back room be my guest, but the gloves are about to come off.
There will be no conflation.
He will speak about it tonight. Hopefully he can put an end to this line of questioning so that we can move onto ending the revolving door on the border.
Petz:
The President didn’t bring Reverend Wright, Ayers, et al to town!!!
@Timothy
You’re correct-he was drawn to them.
yes, border security begins with harassing people living 170 miles from the border.
Kevin:
Yes, we need to implore our Santa Clarita City Council to resolve our porous borders.
Next up, Hart District.
Before you give me grief, BGH, here’s video from last week of one of the speakers doing just that (Mr. Herrera, self-proclaimed diversity-hater) at his local school board in San Berdoo.
Now my crack about this being an issue for the CLWA doesn’t look so off the mark.
I was up in the air over David Gauny but this has confirmed illegal immigration is one of his top priorites and I wont be voting for him.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions and for those who think illegal immigration is the City’s #1 issue and additional funds need to be spent on this, I would say go ahead and vote for him.
My priorites for what the City should do are different and I think spending funds on local infrastructure and parks is more important, so I will be voting for another candidate that values that more.

The Left has always used fear as a motivation for supporting them. Fear George Bush’s Patriot Act, fear Big Government (except the government that can tell you what light bulbs you can use in your house, what sort of cars you can drive, etc.) Fear of man-made global warming.

Did City Councilmember Frank Ferry threaten challenger David Gauny with a smear campaign? Does anybody have the transcript of tonite’s City Council meeting, especially the public comments section where Gauny said he was going to make a formal complaint to some Elections Commission? Will The Mighty Signal contribute any ink to this campaign?
John Q has questions…
William Ayers? Rev. Wright? Really???
Petz, keep the gloves on. You’ll need ‘em to help pull your head out of your a$$.
John Q,
If Gauny makes a complaint it will be with the Fair Political Practics Comm (FPPC). They will take a very long time to respond to a formal complaint. Website is fppc.ca.gov
If Ferry could throw enough slush fund money to buy a Camry into the Ender race and escape unscathed, he won’t get in any trouble for shouting down David Gauny.
Not impressed with TBB’s copycat call for more misprioritization tonight.
Sorry Mike, you must have been asleep two weeks ago. TBB was the original Voice of Reason. His is the way out of the circus tent.
“The Left has always used fear as a motivation for supporting them. Fear George Bush’s Patriot Act, fear Big Government (except the government that can tell you what light bulbs you can use in your house, what sort of cars you can drive, etc.) Fear of man-made global warming.
“
I do fear those things, based on hard science (global warming, health hazards of smog) and proven abuses (Patriot Act).
Where is your “proof” of “death panels”? To compare these is ludicrous and typical hypocritical.
Quick comment about the rally. Again Kellar will take the stage with at least one person who holds fringe ideas about America. Rabbi Nachum Shifren, the candidate for 26th district wants an IQ test to vote and calls being a citizen of California even if you were born in the state a privelege and not a right. The latter runs contrary to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. As for the latter, the IQ test to vote, can anyone say “poll tax,” or how about “grandfather clause.”
Everyone has there own opiniopn about this illegal immigration mess and each is more than welcome to express that opinion. What irritates me is all the political wannabes using the issue as a platform. The idiot last night who announced that he was running for governor on the Socialist ticket about 5 times drove me nuts. Our locals are doing the same thing. They may find that doing this will backfire especially reading some of the comments here.
I did like one commenter last night. He stood up for his friend, but criticized the extremists his friend stood with and but racism in its proper context. It was a breath of fresh air, even if his perspective differed from mine.
I don’t believe I used there instead of their above. My fingers must have been possessed.
Mike – people can always agree to disagree and still be civil
Not so, Nav. The influence of Rove’s “you’re for us or you aren’t a Patriot” mentality has increased polarization to an extreme. Debate by moderates is attacked as “being soft”, “giving comfort to the enemy” and such.
Look how much “enlightened debate” resulted in the votes on health care… straight along party lines, no compromise allowed.
It takes two to dance. If one side lays down and kicks it’s feet in the air, dancing ain’t gonna happen.
No more hiding behind political correctness. No more devaluing anger as ‘hate’. People are angry and letting their voices be heard. But those same people get labeled as radical,anti-Semitic, borderline white supremacist, racists and what ever name the left can come up with to shut them up. Well, those people are Americans of all skin color and all faiths. We won’t be afraid of your name calling anymore. And as to being out of towners, that was ANSWERLA your leftest anarchists that came from LA. Those that showed up at the rally and city council meeting were for the most part Santa Clarita residents. But illegal immigration is not just an isolated problem, and it IS a problem. Trying to paint is as a bunch of gardeners and housekeepers is as deceitful as pretending that over half of the Hispanic gang members are not illegals, which they are. We’re not taking it anymore. That you can bet on. We’re not asking, we’re telling and we want something done or get out of the way.
Ryantheray – “We’re not asking, we’re telling and we want something done or get out of the way.”
Ryan, not sure what you’re a ray of, sure isn’t sunshine. So you’re telling, huh? Telling who? A bunch of people who can’t do a dang thing more than you can? Talk to McKeon and the feds, they’re the ones who handle immigration, our little city council – not so much.
Hey, how about y’all take a road trip to DC and lose the map for the way back to the SCV?
Nicely said Jane.
Ryantheray:
There’s no need to sugarcoat it; we’re all clear on where this is coming from.
I guess it’s a matter of going either direction on the 126.
Jane in answer to your “Talk to McKeon” yes I have spoken to him. I went all the way to Washington and spoke to him in his office at the Rayburn Building. What good did it do, he said he would vote against the last amnesty, but that’s all he would do. It was lip service. Beyond that he would only pander to the special interests at the time.
And for you people to imply that NO ONE BUT PEOPLE FROM SANTA CLARITA should have any say, is so hypocritical it’s amazing. You criticize American citizens for not wanting illegal aliens in their country, yet you chastise OTHERS for being in your town. What hypocrites you are.
Illegal immigration is having a devastating affect on all of California, and every citizen of this state needs to go wherever needed to fight it.
Like I said, get out of the way because we’ve stopped asking, we’re telling.
hey jean, stay outta town
Sorry don couldn’t hear you through that white pointy hood and the crackel of that burning cross.
That was because I wasn’t trying to debate with a illogical, ignorant racist.
you are going to wait a long time..
Racist and Charming the ladies in the trailer park must be smitten.
