  • Bob Hauter, TimBen Boydston and The Signal weigh in on the Gauny/Ferry tete a tete at the Councli meeting on Tuesday night. Money quote comes from Gauny: “”I’m not going to be thrown up against the bus [deft Transit Division reference sir!]. The funny thing is, the most embarrassing thing in David Gauny’s career happened in the future.

Well, if nothing else David Gauny is guilty of malappropisms (It is thrown “under” the bus not “up against.” Maybe 20 years ago he really liked country western music and liked to go into honky tonks and shout the lyrics to “Up against the wall, redneck mothers!” when it came up on the jukebox.

  7. IHeartSCV says:

Tim, that’s not a “malapropism,” which is defined as the mistaken use of a phrase/word that sounds like another phrase/word. (EX: “Comprehend two aspicious (should be suspicious) persons” from Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing). I believe Gauny is guilty of using a mixed metaphor–unintentionally combining being “up against the wall” and “thrown under the bus.”

If you’re going to continue disparaging D.G., please do so using the correct words.

I don’t know what the fuss is about, I told you what Gauny meant, he was complimenting the City’s Transit Division in an off-hand and colorful way.

Who wouldn’t want to be thrown up against one of the city’s buses in its new attractive paint scheme?

The SCV is full of transit haters, but me, I Heart Santa Clarita Transit

Always appreciate the warm reception here. For those wondering why Tim keeps bashing me, I encourage you to read the enemy site about his hit-and-run tactics – the link was never posted on SCVtalk for some reason:

    http://westranchbeacon.com/blog/2010/02/commentary-bringing-clarity-to-the-immigration-discussion-is-easy-with-the-facts/

For what it’s worth, my wife’s family is very Catholic and I have never slammed this religion or any other. My point is that such remarks are out of line for both a CC member, and all the more so for a principal at a Catholic high school.

The Signal’s report seriously diluted the tone of that conversation but this is just one of many Ferry episodes that are unbefitting of a high school teacher: throwing chairs around at CC meetings, telling westside residents “we’ll bury you”, and calling TBB’s valid remarks at a City Council meeting “crap.” Such bullying is simply not appropriate for a leader of a school that teaches Christian principles. This is not about religion, a question of a man’s character.

Not sure how you reach for “Catholic bashing” Tim but intimidation tactics in a campaign has the same effect on candidates as whisper campaigns… but I guess you already know this.

navigator, we’ll try it for a week. It’s just with sometimes, it’s an efficient way to communicate a nebulous concept.

Dave, I want to agree with you about Frank Ferry, but you make it so hard. I don’t think anyone poised to speak at a Minutemen rally is in a position to lecture anyone else on Christian principles. Will you be speaking before or after the pastor that spoke at the last event?

Wasn’t it Frank that spent more than a few minutes bashing other CC candidates at a recent incumbent fundraiser?
    ***************
Right-on, Annette. Frank spent 10 minutes bashing Tim-Ben Boydston at a fundraise for Frank, Laurene, and Marsha. Proves Frank is running scared, which means Ken Pulskamp is scared as hell, too, because Frank works for Pulskamp. And I would like to know who the “we” is Frank is referring to. Obviously, Bob Heuter is in on Frank’s “game” or Frank would not have gone off right in front of Bob. So it is now safe to say that Frank and the Republican machine is busy with their usual nasty games. McKeon and Heuter worked their ugly buttes off trying to kick Bob Kellar loose in the last election so the Republican machine could have a much better behaved machine puppet by the name of Laurie Ender. I thought I would puke when she announced a couple of council sessions ago that McKeon was her “hero.”

So Gauny is the latest target of Frank’s wrath. I would think that someone with as many closets full of skeletons as Frank Ferry has would learn to keep his mouth shut and his head down.

  25. David Gauny says:

Jeff: my apologies for the miss. You remain a balanced resource even if we don’t always agree.

Tim: it’s not what happened 20 years ago, it’s the lies and smokescreens you and your “sources” mutter recently.

As you said to me in your email from Monday:

Subject: Word on the street is that…
“the incumbents partisans have something really damaging to lay at your feet that they will include in a mailer in about two weeks. My guess is they have found a couple of mortgage customers who lost their homes. I will let you know if I learn more, but I have to be careful or the information source will dry up.”

If you can find ANY mortgage broker out there who doesn’t have a client who’s gone upside down in the past three years, please let me know. What purpose could this possibly serve other than a smear on my character?

I think you need to drop the happy-go-lucky math nerd who is nothing but neutral in this election. You’re a tool for the incumbents and pretty much all of your comments have been subtle (or not so subtle) attacks on the most serious challengers.

Your “heads-up” is not friendly and your veil of neutrality has worn thin to most of your readers.

Tim: with all due respect, I believe if you really had any “dirt” you would have already let fly instead of alluding to it. This casting aspersions business is not working. My opinion put up or shut up.

I have said before and still believe David Gauny will make a great Councilmember. He means what he says and says what he means. He listens, makes up his won mind, and does not back away from a fight if the need arises. I still think his views are in accord with most Santa Clarita residents. He has not changed his views to gain votes either. Nor used another persons misfortune to prop himself up. He is willing to stand up for what he believes in, and does not hide from his critics. He actually understands the real meaning of fair evaluation of the facts including accounting for context and motivation. His demeanor is one that inspires confidence and his remarks those of a gentleman. He can disagree with you without resorting to shouting and insults. Stay the course David. We need you.
