Mr. Pride is not in favor of gun control. At least not on his arms.
Just hours after his luncheon appearance at the Santa Clarita Chamber candidate forum at the Valencia Hyatt, KHTS is reporting Johnny Pride was arrested.
Johnny Pride is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, after being taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. While the exact reason for the arrest is not known at this time, KHTS has confirmed that the Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau is conducting the investigation.
Pride is being held on $500,000 bail and is due at Newhall Municipal Court on Monday, March 8.
This doesn’t look like a publicity stunt given the involvement of SVU and the bail amount. Also, no word if Myers has offered to bail him out.
UPDATE: The Signal is reporting Pride was arrested on suspicion of rape:
Pride, 26, of Valencia was arrested Thursday at about 5:37 p.m., the report says, on suspicion of rape by use of drugs or intoxicants and was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Santa Clarita City Council candidate Johnny Pride has been arrested on suspicion of raping two 14-year-old girls, a sheriff’s report said.
He was booked on charges of rape, lewd conduct with a minor, sodomy, oral copulation of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the report stated.
The exact details of the alleged crimes could not be released because the victims were minors, said sheriff’s Detective Brian Hudson of the Special Victims Bureau, which is heading up the investigation.
TMS is also highlighting the exposure to children and the amorous side of Mr. Pride:
During his campaign for City Council, he said he works often with children and claimed to have started a nonprofit organization to bring them school supplies. However, the group he described was never registered with the state, as nonprofits are required to do.
Pride worked briefly for the William S. Hart Union High School District at Canyon High School in 2008 for less than a month, said district spokeswoman Pat Willett.
He was a walk-on coach and a substitute campus supervisor, though it was not clear which sport he coached nor whether he ever actually worked a day as a campus supervisor, she said.
Just after he announced his candidacy, Pride’s MySpace profile listed his hometown as “YOUR MOMS (sic) VAGINA” and his occupation as “Your moms (sic) boyfriend!”

These charges are absolutely false! Someone has trumped up these charges. There are two possibilities. Sadly, one may be related to his candidacy. We do not yet know what is behind this. But there were earlier false allegations of his dealing with drugs. Whoever is making these, has an agenda.
Johnny Pride does not use or deal with drugs. He speaks out strongly against them. He does not even drink in social settings.The only thing Johnny Pride would do is to lay down his life to protect a woman, or anyone else, from an assault.
These charges are fabrications. Frighteningly, there are now countless innocent people locked up today. Many of us lost confidence in our judiciary many years ago. I do not want to see this happen to Johnny Pride.
Right now, people will jump all over this. But there should be a different take on it. This is a time when the media, including this blog, does what the media in America was meant to do: protect innocent people from governmental errors and false charges.
Those who have heard Johnny Pride speak and who have talked to him, will find this “surprising.” You cannot help being around him and sensing the goodness and caring he exudes for others and for the SCV. It is time to stand up for this man. The “system” is clearly broken. Ask those many who were locked up, but were later, years later, found innocent.
This man is innocent. None of these charges make a whit of sense. I suggest the media do its job, the reason it is supposed to be “free” under the First Amendment. Come to his defense. This is simply wrong.

Innocent until proven guilty is a useful legal construct and not a matter of fact. The LASD’s are a professional force and they would not take someone into custody on a $500K bail without physical evidence or a strong complaining witness statement. Better consider the possibility of his potential guilt and how you process that.
Besides which, if these ARE false allegations Mr. Pride has some very thorny legal issues that need attention, which would motivate most people to withdraw from the race in order to spend their time and attention on this serious matter.

Tim, I’m not not a conspiracy theorist – I simply read your propaganda.
Whenever a rightwing extremist doesn’t like what they hear they just label it propaganda… which is just lazy.
I think it highly unlikely this was manufactured by political opponents. Pride simply wasn’t enough of a threat politically, despite Tim’s enthusiastic support.
On the other hand, teenage girls have been known to make up stories like this, so I wouldn’t make any judgments just yet.
He just changed his name to Pride. He is really Scarpitta. He was arrested last year at high school track meet.
We really need to wait for the facts or the police report to be available. After criminial charges are filed, the arrest reports becomes public record via the criminal case. It could be a case, in which the Sheriff’s office was called to the location and a quick investigation and bam! Or in the alternative, if charges were made, Im sure the detectives conducted an investigation before making an arrest. I assume he will probably be appearing in court in San Fernando on Monday…

I don’t think that JP was really going to get elected, but from my research this is historically the worst allegation against a candidate. The most serious prior I could find was when Dennis Conn was accused of trying to steal money out of the cash register at Mulligans after a Republican Club meeting, but that was not during an actual election.

If you are his friend you would be scrambling now to figure out how to get a property bond together because no surety will underwrite that size of bond for this serious a crime. Anyone of modest means who could come up with the $50K premium for such a serious crime would more than likely skip.
