  • City of Santa Clarita sends questionnaire and benefits of annexation flyer to residents of West Hills, Tesoro Del Valle, according to SCVTalk’s John B post. Last fall, the County sent a mailer to unincorporated residents titled “Living in Unincorporated SCV” ; this appears to be the City’s aggressive response.
  • Remember the all-to brief story on the bicyclist who was injured after a collision with a vehicle on Rye Canyon road on May 18? Well, since there’s been no follow up story, I checked things out. Replace “collision” with the words “run over.” The bicyclist was riding east bound on Rye Canyon road before 1pm when he was hit from behind by a motorist in a Dodge Magnum travelling at 55mph. Check back later today for an exclusive interview with the cyclist.
  • More Californians expected to travel this Memorial Day weekend due to lower fuel costs, drops in car rental rates, and reduced hotel rates. Some 2.5 million Southern Californians are expected to make trips. I always enjoy the frantic traffic conditions the Friday before a holiday weekend in the SCV LA TIMES
  • Signal website gets refreshed with a new template. I think it looks better than the old, but search doesn’t seem to work as well. Greater emphasis is placed on comments in the refresh SIGNAL
  • Buck McKeon votes no on conditional repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, saying America owes “its military personnel better.” LA TIMES
  • Arizona businesses that do business with Los Angeles County stand to lose $27 million if the County goes through with its threat to boycott the state. Also, find out what Supe Gloria Molina thinks of Antonovich’s statement that the boycott idea is “stupid” SIGNAL
  • Canyon Country man returns from vacation to find kitchen and bath fixtures and appliances have been stolen. Detectives say there was no forced entry in the house SIGNAL
  • John Boston’s Epic garage sale is this weekend. Lots of SCV/Signal/Boston memorabilia items will be available at his digs in Sand Canyon EVE’S 101 WINE BLOG, KHTS
  • It’s high school graduation week. Cheer for our youths but be hyper-vigilant while on the roads, especially in the evenings KHTS. The Signal has the requisite scare piece designed to get teens to think about driving safely
  • Meg Whitman has spent an astounding $80 million in the run-up to the Republican Gubernatorial primary next week. Jerry Brown, her potential competitor in the fall? $259,582 SAC BEE
  • Speaking of the GOP, Hart Board member Joe Messina says conservative Republicans should vote for Poizner, not Whitman. But Bob Haueter, one of Buck McKeon’s deputies, says Whitman is the way to go. WRB
  • Bill Kennedy details the long and often inept way the Hart District has searched for a site for Castaic High school SIGNAL
  • There’s a new Mexican taqueria in Newhall that has some buzz: El Pato Taco y Burrito has a charcoal grill, handmade sopes, gorditas and huaraches and soon, according to signage at the restaurant, guaranteed “best anywhere” BBQ LADY DUCAYNE

Antonovich is right on. Our County supes need to stick to our own business. We don’t have enough issues for them to do so they need to stick their noses in here? At least the supe that represents us has a backbone.

The CIty sending info outside its borders is predatory. It is not the same as the County sending info to its OWN residents.

It is clear the City is trying once again to cherry-pick. It’s denials are as hollow as a Deep Water well safety inspection program.

Predatory? Did you see how many people supported annexation in John’s neighborhood? Those of us getting neglected by Antonovich want local representation. It’s just guys like you and Bossert with some axe to grind that are getting in our way. I’m glad the city is lending us their bulldozer.

    • spineflower2 says:

      Yes, all at once.

The prior annexations were of complete neighborhoods that wer enew development, NOT chunks of a longstanding community.

Piecemealing creates exactly the bad situation the City itself warned would happen if a second city were formed: neighbor agianst neighbor.

But now they forget their own statments and become what they warned us against.

Tesoro is a longstanding community? Plum Canyon? Hasley Hills?

One day, we’ll get to vote, and you just get one, like the rest of us.

El Pato is amazingly good. My favorite taqueria, for sure. Everything is grilled over charcoal.

Do they by any chance offer Tacos de Pescado? My wife and I like the Baja Fresh ones but would like to try other options.

        No, just shrimp.

Best fish tacos in town, by several lengths, are at Fish Tail, the new hole-in-the-wall next to the Chipotle on Newhall Ranch.

        • Jim Farley says:

We’ll have to give those a try. I got the fish and chips at the fish Tail a while back and was not that impressed, the fish was kind of mushy. But I know as a serious BBQ’r you would not lead me astray.

Does anyone know what branch of the military Buck McKeon served? It doesn’t say on his congressional bio and typically someone that old (in his 70′s) was drafted.

  6. lvogel says:

I don’t believe he did serve in the military, RemStar. In fact, I think he went into the family business after he ‘served’ two years at a mission with the LDS, right after High School. When Howard and Phils went bancrupt in 1996, Buck and his brothers had already made millions from it.

    • RemStar says:

Really? He HAD to have served in the military. After all, he’s one of the biggest “hawks” in Congress.
