This “joke”, along with a recent remark from a (now former) Facebook acquaintance Tea Party supporter’s referral to Obama as “Buckwheat”, tells me all I need to know about the Tea Party’s true colors. Hey, maybe they’ll bring back “coon songs” made popular by racist a-holes in the late 19th century.
These are the things that give a movement a total lack of any credibility whatsoever.

Of course the ‘blogger’ was only using his first amendment right…(roll eyes), and this is not the ‘views’ of most tea party members, and I’m sure that the SCV Tea Party (organization) is doing everything possible to weed out this sort of racist attitude…(again, roll eyes).

Ender’s used an ‘ANT’ analogy and this blogger used a ‘DOG’ analogy. I don’t see much difference except Ender didn’t incorporate hers into a joke.

Of course he did. Here is Bill Reynolds on SCVtalk on October 31, 2008:

“Golly VH, I just cannot refuse Santana’s request for another joke:

        A little girl wrote to Sarah Palin and asked;

‘How did the human race start?’

        Sarah Palin answered, ‘God made Adam and Eve;

They had children; and so was all mankind made.’

Two days later the girl wrote to Michelle Obama

        and asked the same question.

        Michelle Obama answered,

‘Many years ago there were monkeys from

        which the human race evolved.’

The confused girl went to her father and said,

‘Dad, how is it possible that Sarah Palin told me

the Human race was created by God,

And Michelle Obama said they evolved from monkeys.’

The father answered, ‘Well, Dear, it is very simple,

Sarah Palin told you about her ancestors

and Michelle Obama told you about hers.’”

How ironic that I just watched a documentary yesterday where holocaust survivors remarked that the SS officers joked and laughed as they shoved Jews into the gas chambers.
It’s unfortunate that a movement which has a few potentially valid ideals (IE Transparency in government and accountability to the nation’s taxpayers) has to be hijacked by those who think they are right to the detriment of all else; throwing out the open-minded consciousness of human struggle that most of our society has been blessed to understand only recently. These narrow-minded true colors and the allowance of pervasive negative stereotyping destroy any credibility for what ideals they do embrace that might effect a positive change.

  4. IHeartSCV says:

FYI, it was local democratic activist Carole Lutness who first used the ant/sugar analogy at City Council. I’m not saying that makes it OK for Lauie Ender to say it, but I think it was Carole’s language that Ender (sub-)consciously adopted; she didn’t pull the comparison out of thin air. Lutness posted her full comments from this past February at laprogressive.com:

“But Bob [Kellar], you remind me of the old lady who came into her kitchen to find a swarm of invading ants. Furiously, she stomped on every one of them. The next morning there were even more and the next even more. Frustrated she tried everything – plugging up the holes, putting out traps, spraying. But still they came. Then one day her visiting granddaughter came into the kitchen and said, ‘Grandma, I think they keep coming because you have sugar on the table.’

Bob, you are looking the wrong way. You need to look at who is putting the sugar on the table. The primary reason people risk their lives to come here is to work…”

I’m with you, Jeff, in thinking the ant-human analogy is offensive, but I’m guessing that Carole and Laurie (both of whom might be said to support “humane immigration enforcement/reform”) don’t think it is offensive, for whatever reason.

It’s sad to know that while undocumented immigration is not a pressing issue in our community, life is likely to become more unpleasant for those out-of-status immigrants who reside here, with “Non-sanctuary status” and a day laborer ordinance being pursued by the City.

There is a different between hammering a guy on policies, Bill O said during the Bush years, he (“W”) is the president (which I voted for BTW) and he people should respect that. It seems to be Patriotic to disrespect the President of the United States. People even praying he is assassinated! Show me where liberals every advocated and hoped and even wore T-shirts and held up signs hoping for his death? This isn’t Patriotic, it is the same thing that Al Queda and our other enemies would say.

            —->

First Jeremiah Wright was 2 years ago… get over it. Teabaggers is Arizona had a preacher who from the Pulpit said he wanted Obama to die like a slug, speak at one of their rallies? They applauded him and held him up like a hero. Is that ok?

Second Obama like most Presidents gives lip service to religion as he should. I personally hope he wasn’t spending much time in church to hear any of the crazy religious rheotoric that Wright or any other preacher would spout of.

To be accurate, Obama is not a “socialist”. Many of his policies and ideals are socialist-leaning, however. The tone and tenor of many on the far left during the Bush years was shameful. I can give you many examples, if you wish. You can question a presidents policies – go for it. But anytime you accuse a sitting president of setting up an attack on his own country, blowing up the world trade center or intentionally lying our way way into a war goes far beyond simply “questioning any of his policies”.

Before you think I’m just another “W” fan, I’m far from it. He screwed up the prosecution of the Iraq war big time.

BTW, anyone who refers to Obama as a “Kenyan” is crazy.

Meanwhile, I will continue to support Obama when it’s called for (ie using drones to kill as many bad guys as possible) and call into his question (attack him – as you would say) on his socialist-leaning policies.

              • Mike M says:

I’ll agree with both of those. I think the “truthers” are just as nuts as the “birthers”. Political beliefs are a big wheel, not a straight line, and the more extreme you get at one end or the other, the more you start to look like those you detest. For a good example, look at the extremist progressive protestors in Toronto at G20. Terrorists aren’t just religious extremists – they’re anyone who uses violence and fear to push their views.

I’ve got no problem questioning the president – this one, or any other, if you disagree with what they’re doing. I never saw the justification for invading Iraq, and had no problem making that clear – and got called a traitor for that opinion more than once. Now, many of the ones who considered me a traitor think it’s perfectly acceptable to do the same with our current president, and don’t see the irony. That’s where I get irritated.

The fact that you, WTF, respond so rationally means that you’re certainly not the problem. Bill Reynolds and his ilk certainly are, however.

Do you feel that only left wing liberals find racial jokes distasteful and completely unacceptable, Bill Reynolds?

When one laughs at a joke that is intentionally aimed at a specific race (or group) as an insult, or to denigrate another due to their ethnicity, it keeps racism alive and accepted.

I know many conservative people that will not laugh at tasteless, hate-filled jokes directed towards others.

You believe that certain BLACK people (4 total!) are racist. Shall we list all the KKK, Militia, Patriots, Politicians, Preachers, ‘etc’, that are racist? Shall we compare lists?

Does a black person (or people of color) have a reason to judge and make prejudical views of whites…You betcha! History has allowed those prejudicial views to exist, afterall. Do some of a ‘certain race’ distrust, YUP. There’s anger about how those of a ‘certain race’ have been treated throughout history, and find that in this day and age there is still many humans that feel the anger and distrust is not warranted and perhaps they should just lighten up and joke about it.

You go ahead and laugh at the racist jokes and feel that others are just too ‘politically correct’, if that gets you through the day. Do me a favor though, would ya? When you can comfortably tell one of these racist jokes that you find so humorous to a neighbor, co-worker, or friend who are of a ‘certain race’, let us know how that goes.

I find it actually sad that racism even exists amongst the human race. In fact racism is actually encouraged and relished in many circles of society; many have the mindset that people of other color or ethnicity, are ‘inferior’ to the rest of society, hence racist jokes.

Those who do not harbor hatred towards others, have no need to stumble over themselves.

Uh wishful thinking. Racism has always existed and will always exist among every group of people on the planet. It is in our DNA, humans by nature distrust anything that is different or unfamiliar.

In America people have the right to be Racist if they choose. I have a problem with labeling a group of people like the Tea Baggers or Minutemen Racist. Why? because when someone does this they are strawmanning the entire group which essentially ends any discussion.

Are there Racist in the teabagger and Minutemen? Yep… what is sad is that the good people in those groups don’t condemn their own people when they show themselves to be out of line or racist. Don’t be fooled in thinking that Conservatives groups are the only people that have racists, these groups are just easy targets for such allegations.

Not wanting to pay for illegals immigrant from another country is reasonable.

I don’t necessarily see other’s differences (skin color or ethnicity) as something to distrust. We’re humans first and foremost. For me, it’s as simple as that. Instead of appreciating differences in each other and learning about, and from those differences, we are TAUGHT to fear them.
You are correct that racism is not just within those groups I mentioned previously and not ALL in those groups carry that hatred. I have seen enough racism to know that it’s NOT only conservatives that feel superior to others. You are also correct that people have the choice to be racist. I for one just cannot understand (it is not within me) why a person would want to feel hatred towards others because they are different or unfamiliar.

Perhaps if the groups were monitored more closely to identify those that have racist views, then they wouldn’t be such easy targets? Honestly, we only hear about the groups that have those members that seem to be quite vocal and ‘proud’ of their racist views. Then again, we cannot take their racist views away ’cause then we’d be taking away their first amendment right.

But I had to wonder after reading the ‘joke’ that was posted on SCV Tea Party website, why did they allow it to stay posted; did they approve of it?

      1. Bush spent more money then any 5 presidents combined.
      2. Led us into two war under false pretense.
      3. Did nothing to curb the financial turmoil that was becoming evident circa 2006, even though it was the Republican championed Financial Modernization Act 2000 which allowed banks to get “to big to fail” and allowed subprime to go from 5% in 1999 to well over 30%. (only 60 members of congress had the sense to vote NO on this most of which were Democrats.)

This guy points fingers everywhere – yesterday it was Europe’s fault for not going along with him by increasing spending. Do you personally spend your way out bad economic times? Of course not, so how can that idiotic strategy possibly work? I have hoped that O’s policies would fail, but so far he is succeeding sucking the life out of this once great country.

When you hoped that Obama’s policies would fail you are in fact rooting for failures that affect our country on the whole.

I don’t have time tonight to dig into this as much as it deserves tonight, but if I had to explain my attraction to Obama as it related to Iraq, which probably would have been my chief concern in late 2007 when I decided, it would be that he wouldn’t be the sort of president to get us involved in something like Iraq in the first place. The speed of the withdraw mattered (and matters) far less than getting someone in the Oval Office that wouldn’t have made such a colossal blunder in the first place. Obama’s chief opponents, Clinton and McCain, supported the war.

The Iraq situation has cooled considerably while Obama has been in office, a decline that begin towards the end of Bush’s term. We are getting detangled from Iraq. I don’t know if it will ever be completely so, but I’m satisfied with the progress we’ve made. Most importantly, we have a President with a decidedly different approach to military affairs than the previous one. McCain’s approach would have matched the prior approach too closely for my tastes. So on the matter of Iraq it wasn’t, and isn’t, a contest.

I also am starting to believe Obama does not want a second term. He is in over his head and while I know none of you will admit it, the liberal pundits are starting to agree.

Remember pundits care about their career first. They will not let Obama take them down with him. Without the media support that Obama recieved in 2007 he hasd no chance in the upcoming election.

What is the new democratic plan? Spend another trillion on a jobs bill! LOL The party of ideas!

Stimulus monies are being spent over a 3 year period, it wasn’t dumped into the economy all at one time…also if the gov’t didn’t do something I believe things would have been worse, also the gov’t will collect more money next year (bush tax cuts expire at the end of this year). Obama will be running again in 2012 and no Clinton will not be a candidate for office again.

As for the war, I believe he has listened to the Generals, reason for the surge in Afghanistan and the withdrawal from Iraq, which has started to commence, is based upon an Agreement that the Bush Admin. entered into.

So the General was not telling the truth when he said the military was NEVER consulted regarding troop withdrawl plan in Afghanistan?

Should he not be fired for lying?

Now for those of you in the “Obama would be a better leader” crowd.

What would you think of a president that offered up a plan for withdrawl from a war and never consulted the military? No phone call! No meeting to discuss the plan! Just a bunch of politicos pretending to be leaders. Is that the kind of leadership you are fond of? Just asking ?

Wow I was way off. Sorry!

The military was contacted. But it seems they were either not asked for their recommendation OR they gave their opinion on the matter and the Administration went with their own plan. (Is that better)
