Support for the Garnica Family *

SCVTalk Reader Sterling King shared some heartwarming details on the carwash fundraiser being held for the family of Matilda Garnica, the victim who perished in the terrible July 4 tragedy:

I wanted to share with you some photos I grabbed today as I had my car washed at the fund-raiser for the [Garnica] family who lost their Mother. I drove down Lyons and saw the homemade car wash signs and it said it was in support the 4th of July family accident.  It was off of Peachland, next to the nail shop. I talked to the guy who was in charge of the event who said that the extended family and friends put this together to get funds together for the help and support of the family. He said they lived in the trailer park off of Wiley Canyon.
It was constantly full most of the time it was open. I drove by it 4 times in the day and it was as full as the area would allow.
I just thought it was a great gesture of support for those to come by for a wash and a show of willingness for them to offer a service rather then just ask for money. Not that they wont get unsolicited support, but anyway. This may go by the wayside but I wanted to let you know about it in case you had any interest.
Thanks, Sterling.

There will be a carwash at Wiley Canyon Elementary school in Valencia(near Lyons ave and Wiley) Saturday July 10th from 8am-3pm to benefit the family of the wife and mother of three who was killed. Please come get your car washed or help out by washing cars or dropping off old rags and please pass the word!

This is great! I am sorry I didn’t know about it. I don’t look at this sight too often and have been relying on news, etc, and updates for fundraising from the Signal…. my mistake.

  3. cash says:

The Signal only reports on the fundraisers that are supported by their advertisers. You know, the good old boy network.

The Signal had quite a write-up in today’s paper on the front page. There were blurbs highlighted in yellow which noted the car wash, the Wells Fargo account and the food sale at OLPH, as well as the counseling info.
