Facebook Marketing Fail

I wrote earlier how the SCV abhors an advertising vacuum. It’s proven to be true time and time again. Just check out this latest example from Facebook:

On another note: I’ve been really impressed with SCVTV’s news coverage lately. They break stories faster than anyone else and they follow up with good video reports later. I’ve come to checking with them often before updating SCVTalk.

It’s too bad they don’t have more of a web-based text reporting presence (I think this is the reason why). Sure their videos are all online, but they are difficult to search and aren’t served out on RSS. I realize they have 5,000 followers on Facebook, but that just means their good reports get equal billing with Farmville updates.

    That’s horrible.

I was going to ask why you blacked out the jerk’s name until I went to Facebook and saw the poster’s identity. His reality-TV-pseudo-celeb status explains how he could look past a young drowning victim to promote his own stupid “SLIPnSLIDE EXTRAVAGANZA”. The less attention the better.

Boy, you’re right about that! What a total douchebag!!!!

Check out the 55 different profile pics on his FB profile. This guy’s a total narcissist who’s apparently in love with his own face. Way too self-involved to consider someone else’s tragedy before posting.

Someone should stop by this “slip’n'slide extravaganza” and make sure Michael has a wonderful afternoon. What a prick.

Sent this guy a message on Facebook, and he replied. Apologetic, didn’t realize where he was posting his comment, etc. Suspect.

I didn’t see any report on SCVTV or KHTS yesterday about ANOTHER big rig overturned on I-5 at the Calgrove on-ramp around 4:30 PM. Southbound traffic was tied up for quite a distance.

SCVTV had the overturned big-rig on Facebook, where we post the news as it breaks. If you “like” our Facebook page, “SCVTV: Local Television for Santa Clarita,” the posts should show up in your news feed.

MIGHT show up in your FB news feed, the way FB does things now. Typically FB now shows me the things I’m LEAST interested in, rather than most interested in – and doesn’t let me change things by scale the way it used to…

Mike – Right on. We send out breaking news reports through Facebook and Twitter simultaneously; I wish there were a better way to deliver those reports to people who want to receive them. I suppose we could start an email list and send them out that way, too, but I would think that receiving that much email would drive most people nuts.
