I only wish they would take the new wonder weapon to the streets to shoot pain rays at the guts of pillaging anarchists and other anti-”whatever” protesters who destroy property during their “marches.” Hippy anarchists writhing in pain would be wondrous to behold.

I’m sure Councilmember Frank Ferry dreams the same thing, with his desire to take care of the dangerous Developmental Terrorists on our local scene. Will he come out with some kind of asinine comment about Library Terrorists?

Frank at this point can barely stay awake during council meetings. He really does not want to be there and his storied lack of effort in the last election showed that, yet he still won!

That’s why I have officially given up. When the youngest kid graduates from high school we are packing up for a cooler place in SoCal and I will make a fresh start and keep myself willfully ignorant of local political issues. Can 83% of the people be wrong?

I mean that’s what Jesus would do, right Fred? He’d punish the hippies. Could we use this ray on tea party demonstrators and anti-gay marriage protesters too, or would it just be used on people who disagree with you?

I do think this should be used on rioting prisoners. The ACLU is so far out of touch with reality on so many issues as to make it hard to relate to them even when they have a point. Ditto PETA, NRA etc.

If the Tea party people and anti-gay marriage protesters destroyed property and endangered lives, then yes.
I know this may stun your stereotype of my position because I am consistent. So, I’ll give you a moment to ponder…
The difficulty with your contrived scenario is that there are no examples of those groups destroying property and endangering lives. I know you may throw up some bogus examples, but let’s face reality: they have done nothing on the level of those radical groups in Seattle a few years ago, or in Canada just recently who are liberal leftists.

When you get that far around the bend you are no longer left or right, you are just stupid. People who destroy things, whether they’re socialist, facist, or just plain mad, white, anti-government nutcases (yes, in fact they do come in that flavor too) are just evil. Left or right has nothing to do with it. If you want to tag the idiot terrorists in Seattle as “leftists” then you need to be willing to claim the Unabomber, Tim McVey, the Ku Klux Klan, AND Muslim terrorists because they’re conservative religious extremists as well. It doesn’t just work one way – it works both.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Amen Gangfang, amen! People with the self righteous hubris that Fred displays in the “name” of Christianity gives it nothing but a black eye and makes it unappealing. His attitudes towards those who don’t march lock step with precisely what he believes are so far off Christian message as to be utterly repugnant in nature.

Precisely Mike. There are PLENTY of examples of Non-Hippy “conservatives” doing damage in their efforts. People like Fred just “choose” to dismiss those instances as not their people. Selective judgment is what Mr. Butler operates under. His statement “Hippy anarchists writhing in pain would be wondrous to behold,” tells you everything you need to know about his agenda. he can hide behind the notion that it is only to punish those who deserve it but the fact is his disdain for a particular group of people is so strong he would revel in their pain… Sounds pretty Christ-like huh?

One of our oldest historical properties is finally looking to get a makeover. I was begining to wonder if it would just fall to dust before anything ever happened. Of all things 1876 in Santa Clarita the refinery is one of the most important since it was the first on the west coast.

Sorry, if you hang out too far into my lane, as the few but dangerous and thoughtless among you do, I have a choise or risking a head-on with two tons of metal, or hitting a 200 lb man. You can guess what my choice will be.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

      • ScottE says:

If that were your only choice then I would probably agree. But that is not even a choice you have to make in the most common of situations (multi-lane city type traffic). It would be one possible choice in a two lane (one each direction) usually only encountered in out of the city situations.

In that case, you have an additional choice: slow down until one of two things happens: the cyclist becomes aware of your presence and moves closer to the shoulder, or you could slow down until it is safe to pass. If the cyclist doesn’t pull over, it is UNLIKELY you will NEVER have a safe opportunity to pass…and in that case, you have my full support (although it would be illegal) to blast the guy with your horn.

Seriously, how long do you think you would have to slow down for to wait for a safe passing opportunity? 30 seconds? 1 minute? 2 minutes? What is the extent of your animosity towards people who are legally using the road in front of you?

What do you do when you encounter a slow moving vehicle on a two lane highway? Do you attempt to pass when another car is coming in the opposite direction then, when they refuse to slow down, sideswipe them into the creek bed?

        • Jeff (But not the one that runs this blog) says:

Good luck getting most of these morons to acknowledge that slowing down is a choice, or more importantly the only legal choice of the ones he listed there. Heaven forbid you should be kept 30 seconds to save someone’s life. The surface street speeds in Santa Clarita are beyond ridiculous as it is, then you have rage filled drivers trying to prove a point with cyclists.

Concerning the LSSI contract, which the City Manager wanted the authority to negotiate and sign, and which the City Attorney is supposed to review and approve, according to Darren Hernandez’s Staff Report:

Note that the draft City Council Resolution handed out in the pre-Council meeting package didn’t include any authorization for staff to hire LSSI. Only the staff report said the City Attorney and City Manager would negotiate with and hire LSSI.

As a result, I am wondering if the Council members got a “revised” draft Resolution on the dias, including reference to an LSSI contract. It might be worth asking the City Clerk for a final, signed copy of the Resolution the Council passed on 8/24, if you are interested in issues concerning the LSSI contract.

Also, I am sending Jeff pdfs of the Board of Supervisors’ Resolution putting the text of the Library Special Tax on the ballot in 1997, as well as the actual ballot punched by the voters. That Library Special Tax ballot measure specifically says the County stops collecting the Library Special Tax when a city secedes from the County Library System.

Education Code Section 19116, cited in the draft Resolution, says that as to regular real estate taxes, if the County has pledged (mortgaged) the real estate tax cash flow as security for payment of County bonds, the share of real estate cash flow allocatable to the cost of library services provided to the city which seceded does NOT have to be handed over to the seceding city. Instead, the money stays with the County as security for their bonds.

I hope financial wizard Darren Hernandez read the Official Statement (prospectus) for every bond measure the County currently has outstanding, to see whether County real estate taxes “have” or “have not” been pledged to secure payment of the County’s financial obligations.
