You may have thought the new Castaic High School would be named Castaic High School.
But this is Santa Clarita. Place names don’t mean much here, as Mike’s mental geography exercises have proven. And we like to name our roads, monuments, train stations, parks and buildings after people, many of whom are still alive.
So with that in mind, let’s explore some names for Castaic high School, since it’s obviously not going to be named that. Here’s my list:
- San Francisquito High (Mascot: The Waves. What? Too soon?)
- Aliklik High (Mascot: Indians. Aliklik is the derogatory name applied to our Tataviam Indians by the snobbish Chumash on the coast, who remarked that the language of the Tataviam sounded like “Aliklik”. I should add Aliklik High Indians is way more appropriate than Hart Indians)
- Del Valle High (Mascot: Barons, named after Antonio del Valle, a real Mexican Land Baron who lived over Camulos way and granted land to our own Henry Mayo, who already has way too much stuff named after him)
- MAC Peterson High (Mascot: Truckers, named after the primary business in Castaic which was and remains servicing truck drivers in many creative ways)
- Chaguayabit High (Mascot: The Spellers, for obvious reasons)
- Bower High (Mascot, The Raiders after the Reverend Stephen Bower who did none of the digging but all of the profiting from the discovery of a cave containing priceless Tataviam artifacts in Castaic. Bower then peddled each item off and now they’re located in Harvard’s Peabody museum).
I just came up with these names off the top of my head. I’m sure you can do better. So have at it- let’s beat the Hart District to the punch and list some good names for Castaic High. We’ll then have an official vote on the best names.

The people in the area call it “Castaic” so it seems logical that it should be called Castaic High School. That’s what people have been calling it for years anyway.

That is just the price for the raw land. Rasmussen’s interest will also be paid for the grading and the building of infrastructure which rolls up to the much higher price tag.
Yeah, Donald Trump is a MUCH better choice. Or perhaps Mitt Romney, who created HUNDREDS of jobs in his own company!
Petz is looking closely at Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain, maybe Rick Santorum. Get off the Trump bashing-he is not a serious candidate, the 21st century Ross Perot. The guru is getting his Moveon.org talking points a little late.
I’ve never been to moveon.org, so get off that pot, Mr. Petz.
Santorum has a bit of a name recognition problem. Here’s a fun thing to do on a nothing day: Google “Santorum” and see what comes up as the first page result.
Michelle Bachmann is Sarah Palin on steroids. Her views are way too far to the right to appeal to enough voters to elect her.

I do not have a catchy name, maybe “Castaic got Clowned” but the mascot should be the “Road Rager’s” since that is what everyone will experience trying to get in and out of the place if it is built as currently planed.
We’ve forgotten the most obvious choice…. Michael Antonovich High School. Everything else is named after the guy….
