Add this to the “irony” pile. Remember how Mayor Marsha McLean (at that time Mayor Pro Tem) said that “cracks were forming” in County library services with reduced hours and suggested reduced hours. Well, this weekend we got a postcard detailing when newly issued City library cards, which I already applied for online, can be picked up during the latter half of June when the “County” libraries close to emerge as wonderful new “City” Libraries.
Well, if the pickup times are any indication cracks are already forming in the City’s delivery of library services. Of the three locations available for pickup (City Hall, the Newhall Library Construction Trailer, and the Aquatics Center) two (City Hall and the Construction Trailer) are only open Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm; so much for people with long commutes like me. The third, the Aquatics Center, is open from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday through SATURDAY, but only TWO Saturdays, June 18 and June 25. No morning hours anywhere. YIKES!!!!!!!!
Insert Berta rant here:
”
!”
That should do it.
Well, maybe another 45 or 50 lines of rant…..
Seriously….un-BELIEVABLY dramatic. You guys will just search and search for anything to criticizes about the libraries. It’s open on Saturdays you poor commuter. Make it happen, get your card and be quiet for goodness sake.
Fortunately, we don’t have to search far for things to whine about.
That’s because a good whiner can whine about anything – even if it has no substance.
What I don’t get is you are complaining about commuting, yet, even though you can pick the library card up AFTER the libraries reopen, you are choosing to get it before hand and commute even more for …………? What use is the card going to be before the library opens? Is it so you can come on here and complain about the design of it or something?
I have to agree with ScvFan. It’s a library card — hardly a matter of life and death. And your old card is still valid at the other county branches if there is a book you simply can’t wait for……
But Linda, they all said it would be BETTER than the County libraries and it is already starting out worse.
In what way is it worse? I don’t recall library cards being available for pickup anywhere but the library before. Now you have 3 choices and I’m betting there won’t be a long line at any of them. But if there is, be sure and let us know about it….
How can that be? The City does not have control over the libraries yet. If the cards weren’t ready early, you would complain about that. Now that they are, you complain about that. Unlike a columnist that might get a case of writer’s block, a good whine never runs out of material. After you have already attacked all that is bad, start on the good.
Consider the source-Timmy wrote a piece about not conforming to the TPC dress code and being refused entry. Petz is turned off by the complainers and grippers in this forum. Oh and by the way , the new two story library really looks out of place in downtown Newhall.
So it’s fair to say that comments made by Bill Reynolds make you a little less than horny? Me, too!
And your “by the way”comment is up there with your top 10 baiting attempts. It makes me flaccid. In an intellectual kinda way.
Or maybe you actually meant “gripper”? Those who hold you firmly propel you into a downward spiral of asexual darkness? Turned off by clasping tool?
Petz, that’s because it has no walls.
What was up with the guy standing in front of the new/ old town masterpiece (the library) with the cardboard sign “Iron workers $58.87″? I always meant to stop and ask him… but always ended up being late for where I needed to be…
ps- the new library cards sure are purdy
Shame on the union goons who protested the Memorial Day observance at Eternal Valley this morning. What a bunch of schmucks.
Details of protest?
They parked the mobile truck sign outside Eternal Valley that said call Cameron Smyth to Stop the Layoffs. It introduced bare knuckled politics into a solemn event meant to memorialize our war dead. There is a time and place-this was not the time or the place.
I don’t care what side of the issue you are on. That is just plain tacky.
yeah
The real schmucks are the self-serving, grandstanding politicians like Smyth and McKeon, who show up every year at Eternal Valley to promote themselves. My husband finally had enough of the nonsense spewing from the pair of them and refused to attend this year. Neither of them served in the military.
If the “union goons” remained outside the gates of the cemetery and were otherwise well behaved, then they were simply exercising their rights — the same rights that those we memorialize gave their lives to defend.
Petz will bet you that they do not have Teamsters driving their truck. Was Lincoln Grandstanding at Gettysburg? How about Obama visiting Joplin, MO ? Buck is the Majority leader on the House Armed Services committee…whether you like it or not. Very disappointed that your hubby could not see the value in coming out to listen to the SCV symphony and Master Chorale perform patriotic songs……or the Rabbi Blazer give the invocation and benediction. He would have been bored to death by the rememberances given by the families of the SCV fallen heros. So what did he do between 10 and 12 that was more valuable use of time?
They were double parked on Sierra Hwy outside the enterance…and Cameron Smyth was not there.
I don’t. And comparing him to Lincoln or even Obama is ridiculous.
As to the remembrances and music, if they bring comfort to the families of the fallen, great (although I find it hard to believe any family of a fallen soldier would stomach listening to Buck). But attending a memorial day service is of no use to the soldiers who are dead and who died in a war that never should have been declared or fought. Nor is it of comfort to those soldiers who are finding it difficult if not impossible to find treatment for PTSD or the many physical and emotional wounds inflicted upon them. We spent the afternoon with the family of a soldier who succombed to the wounds he suffered. Buck didn’t show up to speak.
I guess he should have just played golf like our empty suit president (70th round since becoming president) I guess barak believes the answer to the countries economic problems lies somewhere on the greens? By the way, I am a member of a country club and I have not played 70 rounds since bammy became president. But then again, I have a tough job!!
Because they were not in the military? Who cares – I expect my elected officials to be in support of such events (whether or not they went to boot camp) and it sounds pretty narrow-minded & selfish to not attend because you do not like them there. The purpose of the event was to remember those gone. God forbid they didn’t go, I am sure another band wagon would attribute that as some other kind of slight to our men and women overseas.
We have the freedoms we do such as the “union goons” (btw definitely tacky) being able to protest because of the sacrifices of those serving in our nation’s military and everyone should at least consider attending these events regardless of their military background or political alliance. So get off that high horse and attend events because of why we are there and not who might be standing next to you.
Here’s how it works: If someone is protesting something Petz agrees with, they’re patriots. If not, then they’re either union goons or “Democrat plants.”
Petz is all for freedom of speech, unless it’s something he disagrees with. Then there ought to be a law against it.
There is a law against double parking, but strange how law enforcement personnel were nowhere to be found.
My initial thought was this comment is as a joke. Because certainly nobody would expect the city to make meeting the needs of a grown man who has so poorly managed his career that he must commute two hours each way a priority over the needs of stay-at-home mom’s with small children.
Where was Tim’s whine as the county systematcially ratcheted down library services over the past 8 months and announced they would end all service and skip town two weeks early (even though we paid for a year of full service, not declining and abridged service, through our taxes)? And now he is whining because the city has started to make library cards available three weeks early. “Must … grasp … at … straws ….”
All of the whiners should boycott the city library system and use the new “Stevenson Ranch Express Library.” (By the way, “Stevenson Ranch Express Library” is a nice middle-finger-of-a-name to the western neighborhoods of Southern Oaks, Sunset Point and Westridge.) Ironically, this Express Library (aka “Bookmobile”) will be open on fewer days, and shorter hours, than the city-designated locations for getting library cards. Now that’s something to whine about….
What an #$%& you are RemStar. Tim does what he has to do and fits a lot of other “stuff” into his week. Life’s circumstance does not always provide for an ideal commute. Get off the personal attack and deal with the facts on the table.
Yep, I’d rather work in the SCV and make less than half of that I can get commuting 25 miles away.
We did not pay for a full year of anything. The county fiscal year ends 6/30. The city may not get the tax money (not special tax) that the county collects if the transition goes beyond 6/30. The county would keep collecting it until the end of their fiscal year in 2012. Read the tax law on this. The county HAS to close two weeks early to allow the transfer to the city. This is just as much for the city as it is for the county.
I will use the library on 7/1 and expect to be dazzled. Beyond this, I will be using the county library as it has always suited my needs just fine. I will pick up in Castaic until they build the new Stevenson Ranch branch and probably will skip the bookmobile.
Saw my good friend Bill Reynolds-Always Right “Gary”-Berta at the Memorial Day event. Leon Worden wins the best dressed award, Lucy enjoyed the morning.
Jeff, did you ban Bill Reynolds from SCVTALK ? Tell Petz it is not so.
