Sort of Republican but mainly Libertarian Congressman Ron Paul is making his third run for the Presidency and his second run in the Republican primary. Congressman Paul will not win the nomination, but his Libertarian base is committed and passionate, described recently by a political pundit as one Paul supporter who will put up 2,000 yard signs against 1,000 Romney supporters that will put up one yard sign.
One of the main planks of Libertarianism is the legalization of ALL narcotics, and not just marijuana. This position has puzzled me but now that the case of Ashraf Boulos Hindi, a math teacher at Canyon High School, struck so close to home, for the first time I can see the Libertarians point.
From the allegations contained in the story, it appears that the worst crime concerning the Camarillo Police Department (“CPD”) today is adult males trying to make a “love” connection on craigslist enticing adult women with promises of liquor, marijuana and cocaine. If we assume EVERYTHING in the story is true the poor Mr. Hindi took an amount of weed that merits a citation to a Motel 6 in Camarillo to “get jiggy with it.” Well, one search warrant later and Mr. Hindi failed to engage in a legal, consensual act and is being held on $50K bond under some fairly serious charges, which probably mean the end of his teaching career.
Read the comments to the above story. Besides the usual “rah rah law and order” suspects with their conflations and teacher union bashing, a fair number of commenters wonder about this usage of law enforcement resources in a time of fiscal austerity. Some former students have even rushed to Mr. Hindi’s defense, saying this never got into the classroom. I guess the local Libertarians have not found the story yet, but hopefully they will weigh in soon.
I already know their argument. They will say the defendant was an excellent teacher and but for this draconian sting would have never got in trouble with the law, thus making the law and police enforcement of the law unjust. God help me I am starting to see their point.

Ron Paul… blah… Gary Johnson is the new and improved libertarian “republican” in the running for 2012.
A libertarian would say keep the law out of it- and the school could fire him, or not, as they see fit- without a union all up in it.
Well, a Libertarian would say we should not even have public schools, and that a private employer can’t take action against an employee for anything that occurs outside of work. Better check the manifesto, Sue!
Close, but a libertarian believes the private business could fire him (or not hire him) for any reason under the sun.
I’m of the mind that cocaine use should be a firing offense, on its face. But as far as an exercise in law enforcement, this is pretty embarrassing.
Dude, half of Hollywood would be unemployed.
Well at least he wasn’t sending pictures of his member to his 20 year old twitter friends. How come no mention of Anthony Weiner? Not a Libertarian is he? Oh let me guess you dont believe the story? LOLOLOLOLOL
Petz is more concerned with Hindi’s ability to help a student learn and enjoy math, than his smoking weed in the company of female companionship during the summer break.
However, the shocking allegations of Democrat Anthony Weiner sending pics of his engorged Fruit of the Looms on Twitter is really a reason for great concern. As an American of German ancestry , and having lived for an extended time in Deutschland-let me tell you his name is pronounced “Whiner” not ” Weener”. Just another example of a NY politician disgracing his office
Mark Levin will take him apart this afternoon. Weiner has always been one of his favorite targets.
Penis envy? Say it ain’t so, Petz!
“He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known.” ~Proverbs 10:9
How can Petz claim to be a follower of Christ and have trouble telling the truth?
I would also like to ask Petz how they pronounce John Boehner in his German ancestry?
Yiddish Dictionary
Putz: Slang word for “penis.” Also used when describing someone someone as being “a jerk.”
Brings forth additional relevance when calling you Putz, Petz.
Petz can laugh at himself……it is a desireable personality trait.
Here is some help for you

Doesn’t sound like a german accent.
Names are pronounced however the person desires. Who the hell are you to tell anyone different?
Nice trick of faking a tweet and then making it some type of news, which it isn’t! Why are you promoting the elevation of a scam into something it isn’t?
Honesty a problem with you Petz?
Sounds like Weiner is the one with the honesty problem.
I do not require that my kids’ teachers be saints.
He wasn’t out to sell. He wasn’t dealing with anyone under age. Why would we care who or how he dates?
I know once the laws are there he is toast now, but the laws shouldn’t be there in the first place. Personal use should not be a crime. But today it is, and knowing that, this teacher should have watched himself more carefully. Now he will be seeking a new career.
Police make decisions on priorities every day. This bad judgement to waste resources on a victimless crime shows even worse judgement than the teacher showed.
What it says to me when you have a “Special Enforcement Division” working on this the department has obviously resolved the whole serious crime issue in the community and it is time to reduce the force to slim down government.
Agree totally with both of you. This is especially distressing because good math teachers are in short supply. I hope Mr. Hindi finds true love, better judgment and a good job soon.
On another topic – I see the City vetted the list of individuals appearing on Hero’s Bridge.
Should a soldier who was stationed in Iraq and had been home for six months before committing suicide be eligible?
Just curious about others opinions regarding what is considered a “Hero”.
NFIC:
I know the death you are referring to, and if the local media had covered the situation as well as NPR (with the complete cooperation of the family, by the way) the only plausible conclusion that a reasonable person could have come too was that the death was indeed combat related.
Did NPR do a story on the soldier in question with the cooperation of the family?
The Father was interviewed on tape and I have heard through the grapevine that he is quite bitter about the story being buried by local media, because it intimates that the family should be ashamed. That is your implication too, Petz.
While I think this particular death has been deceptively exploited for political purposes (in the past), I think that if you consider all the facts and circumstances, his name belongs on that bridge.
This all depends if you believe post traumatic stress could be caused by combat.
Tim I believe you are using flawed “straw man” arguments against libertarians. While extreme Libertarianism borders on anarchy, it is really no different then Extreme Liberalism (Communism) or Extreme Conservatism (Fascism). Balance is always the key.
Libertarians put their faith on the individual. Which means if you want to kill yourself by shooting up Black Tar Heroin or any other substance… by all means knock yourself out. Libertarians believe that when you outlaw something you in essence create criminals, an example would be prohibition or when the U.S. outlawed owning GOLD. They don’t see value in dumping mountains of cash to fighting an endless war against human nature with the only byproduct being a violent black market.
Legalizing all drugs would save our country TRILLIONS of dollars and under cut and put out of business the violent drug cartels all over the world. Countries that have legalized drugs.
