Eric Earle, the 40 year old Saugus man arrested for murder in the death of 31 year old Karla Brada his live-in girlfriend, was an alcoholic and posted on his facebook wall about his struggles with alcoholism and addiction:
IT is easier to see now,as i look back on my life today and my drinking , that from the very beginning alcohol had been a part of every disaster in my life .I saw my alcohoism took me to new depths of disgrace, embarrassment and despair. i have found out above all i am healing spirtually
That was posted in April. By July, he was posting about how he was back into recovery, so I’m assuming he slipped again. On July 29, he announced his engagement to Karla Brada:
Then, just six days later, an arrest was made at Brada’s home for inflicting “Corporal Injury on Spouse/Cohabitant”.
Yesterday, she was found lying on her bed, not breathing. She didn’t even make it to the hospital; LA County paramedics declared her dead at her house in Plum Canyon.
I’m feeling sick to my stomach over this. What happened here? Could this have been prevented?
Rest in peace Karla.

It is distressing. I’ve watched this happen in my own family. Women don’t take domestic violence seriously enough and tend to make excuses for the abusers. Abusers are often apologetic and tearful afterwards, which makes it harder for their victims to press charges. Friends and family members watch helplessly as the scenario repeats itself and can find themselves ostracised or, even worse, victims themselves.
But even when a woman takes the issue seriously and seeks help, she may not find the law of much use. Restraining orders just make the abuser more angry. There should be a mandatory relocation program for abusers….
Also, these abusers of women tend to be very subservient and compliant when real Alpha males (ie the cops) show up. Not surprising when one things how cowardly and fearful one must be to use physical force on a female or a child.
A truly sad story.
I am still in shock RIP Karla…
seriously? No one is going to comment on Linda’s “mandatory relocation program” comment?
Karlita, I will truly miss you my dear friend. I Love you
