I agree with the letter writer. I drive California Highway 14U (the “U” stands for relinquished), or as you may know it, “Sierra Highway” from
San FernandoNewhall Ave to Princessa often and I don’t think its in that bad of shape. Sure, it could be better… But I think Soledad and Sierra in parts of Canyon Country is in much worse condition… Specifically Sierra between Princessa and Soledad, and Soledad east of Sierra. The survivor is an agent associate at Keller Williams-please keep him in thought and prayer.
Indeed.
SCVTALK created this multi media episode for Astronomy Day 2007. What happened to one with the great sound track?
http://www.youtube.com/user/scvtalk?blend=2&ob=5#p/u/0/axlfaUr6rUQ
heh. I thought I was hot sh** back in the day editing that video together with Windows movie maker and some 3d solar system software.
The soundtrack was removed by YouTube because it was unlicensed. I unintentionally pirated it
The music was great-spent about 15 minutes working on my speakers and settings.
Correction: the U stands for unreliquished.
Damn. I blame auto-correct.
It’s good that local businesses get a piece of that 62+ million dollar contract. What struck me though is trying to do the math on what those missles cost each. Lets see, 120 missles with tools, 60 of them to include advances targeting optics. The other 60 missles are deemed “training missles” meaning I suppose they get fired without warheads. That works out to an average of over a half million bucks each. No wonder the multiple wars we are in are draining the economy so thoroughly.
No kidding. I went through the same exercise. I can’t believe a derivative of the Sidewinder missle -a system that’s been in service since Vietnam- costs nearly $500k each, more than a house.
Regarding the article in the LA TIMES about The National Hispanic Media Coalition, which is focusing on John and Ken after the popular KFI radio hosts gave out the personal cell phone number of an immigration rights activist.
The article says “Long-time immigrant rights activist Jorge-Mario Cabrera is used to being called to task for his views. But when radio hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou recently gave out his cell phone number on the air in a campaign against the California Dream Act, he found himself unprepared for the barrage of hate-filled phone calls that followed.”
The first issue I have with the article is: Mr. Cabrera is NOT an immigrant rights activist. Mr. Cabrera is an ILLEGAL immigrant rights activist, A HUGE DIFFERENCE in my view. Cabrera does NOT advocate for legal immigrants but instead for folks who chose to ignore the laws of this sovereign nation and trespass on American soil.
The second issue I have is: Mr. Cabrera apparently feels that John and Ken should be held accountable and taken off the radio airwaves for what their LISTENERS say via hateful phone messages directed at Mr. Cabrera. However, hypocritically, Mr. Cabrera feels he should not be held to account for HIS own advocacy and comments regarding persons in the United States of America illegally.
The third issue for Mr. Cabrera: We are in the USA and here the citizens enjoy free speech even if it is to embarrass themselves or say hateful things within the bounds of the law.
The fourth issue: While I do not condone the hateful rhetoric and if act abhor it, I understand the frustration legal residents and immigrants feel with folks like Cabrera who advocate for people who have no right to be here, let alone be given taxpayer money to enjoy the benefits of living in a democracy without abiding by the duties or responsibilities of legal residency and other laws.
The fifth issue: Cabrera should be advocating for a more streamlined process for LEGAL immigration, encouraging folks to fight for better conditions in their country of origin, and advocating for folks to follow the law and immigrate legally.
The sixth issue: Jórge-Mario Cabrera, if you really believe in what you say then defend it, and man-up and take your lumps from those who disagree. Folks have a right to express their outrage, and John and Ken have a right to give out your phone number so that folks can tell you how they feel about your “advocacy” since it is publicly available information anyway. I do not listen to John and Ken but if some of the stuff folks like Cabrera and others say on Spanish language radio and elsewhere can stay on air or in print, so can John and Ken. Listeners can decide whether to tune in or not, that is the essence of Freedom of Speech and the American way Mr. Cabrera, like it or not.
And finally: Mr. Cabrera said he was prepared to meet with the station’s management sometime in the next several days to discuss the incident but that the demand that the hosts be taken off the air would not change. Mr. Cabrera should be ashamed of himself. His Freedom of Speech to make his point is no less important than those who feel differently about the Dream Act. If specific laws were broken Mr. Cabrera, contact the authorities but I hope you receive a better response than American citizens have from President Obama and Eric Holder.
Simple test then. If John and Ken believe Cabrera should be held accountable for his views, then why don’t John and Ken give out their personal cell phone numbers so listeners can hold them accountable for their’s?
Ok Jeff, do John and Ken advocate on behalf of lawbreakers? If so then I agree that they should put their personal information up too, if not no. By the way, I was easily able to find John and Ken’s contact info via the radio station on the internet.
That’s a cop out and you know it.
I advocate jay walking Berta. it saves time and provides good exercise. Are you going to publish my personal cell phone number now?
Jeff, if your advocacy of jaywalking costs me and every other taxpayer millions if not billions of dollars a year, negatively impacts education, undermines our national security, etc. You betcha!!!!
Ahhh, so now there are other conditions on when it’s okay to give out personal details on people you disagree with politically. I see.
Hey- question for you. If giving out the personal cell phone number for people you disagree with is ok, why not the home address? ATM Pin number? Children’s names etc?
I am in support of providing current CONTACT information in order to lodge your complaint, express your opinion, etc. Providing an address, ATM info, etc is not necessary in order to contact someone when they have a phone number, email, or website. Mr. Cabrera has a cell phone and it apparently works just fine.
Then you should support handing out John and Ken’s personal contact info because I have a complaint against them.
Why the double standard?
Jeff:
Mr. Cabrera put his personal cell phone number in the press release that was distributed to the media. I don’t agree with John (Ken is much milder in his views) but if you put the number in a press release I would say it is public.
About one year ago they gave out the cell phone number of a chief lobbyist for the banking industry after they tore him apart for raising rates and reducing credit limits on cardholders. The lobbyist knew better than to whine and cry to the FCC. He turned off his cell phone and got a new number.
“but I hope you receive a better response than American citizens have from President Obama and Eric Holder.”
“President Barack Obama says he backs immigration reform, announcing last month an initiative to ease deportation policies, but he has sent home over 1 million illegal immigrants in 2-1/2 years — on pace to deport more in one term than George W. Bush did in two.”
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/20/us-obama-immigration-idUSTRE78J05720110920
I applaud the deportations Jeff. I do not applaud the back door amnesty for upwards of 300,000 folks who already had their DEPORTATION ORDERS but now get to stay and are rewarded, if they have not committed and been convicted of a felony crime, with work permits too. So much for a fair playing field for other immigrants, legal or illegal.
And how about Obama/Holder signing on as an amicus (friend) of Mexico in their lawsuit against the USA? Ya, I think that is just great that MY President agrees with Mexican President Félipe Calderón and friends and sues us the American taxpayers.
So, if you applaud deportations, then you should admit that, at worst, Obama’s record on illegal immigration is mixed, and at best, Obama’s record on illegal immigration is much stronger than George Bush’s.
Why am I not surprised that you have no such nuance?
President Bush absolutely sucked on immigration but at least he did not allow amnesty for his illegal alien aunt living in HUD housing which is also against the rules, or for his DUI challenged illegal alien uncle. Nor did he allow ANY Mexican President (and Vicente Fox is a big guy) to lecture US on illegal immigration issues either.
Bush tried to push through immigration reform in 2007. Obama has made no such effort. In fact he’s deported twice as many illegals as Bush.
Yet you condemn him for something his distant aunt and uncle did?
Bush was a Caucasian guy whose relatives have been here for hundreds of years so he more thank likely has no foreign born relatives living. If he did, I am sure he would do the same as would 99% of politicians. Reagan approved amnesty if I remembered correctly and he is the current idol of the Conservatives.
Don’t think Mr. Cabrera or people in his demographic are amongst KFI’s target audience, so attempts to get John and Ken booted off are only going to succeed in making them even more popular. Illegal immigration is a hot button issue these days. Ask Rick Perry.
Is everyone getting spammed by The Signal lately, or is it just me?
Yes and I’m about to take revenge.
Jeff I cannot reply above so:
No double standard, as I said you can easily find John and Ken’s contact information on the internet. I did. Contact them and complain if you wish. I am sure they get lots of hateful messages but am sure you will be civilized.
Both President Obama’s aunt and uncle are not “distant relatives”. They are respectively the sister and brother of his father. Barack and Michelle Obama are wealthy by most standards and if they choose to can sponsor relatives or anyone else into the USA. If they did not think enough of his freeloading relatives to be financially responsible for them, why should I be forced to support them instead?
Moreover, I condemn President’s, Bush, Obama and their successors, for failing to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws.
“No double standard, as I said you can easily find John and Ken’s contact information on the internet.”
Please. I’m not stupid. There’s a difference between someone’s personal cell phone and their official contact information on the internet. Give me a break.
Jeff I did not imply nor do I think you are stupid. Both cell phone and email/website are contact methods. Whether you contact me or anyone else by email/website or cell phone, the results are the same. I read/listen to message, answer/respond, or ignore you.
One difference is cell phones incur costs if your cell plan does not include unlimited calls and messages but I doubt that is a problem for Mr. Cabrera. On the other hand, email/website may allow only so many emails to get through which I doubt is a problem for Ken and John. However, if the contact attempt is successful, results are about the same.
successors=predecessors
Have to go with Berta on this one, Jeff. If you want you “personal” cell phone number to remain private, you don’t list it in a very public press release that gets distributed to the media. Definition of media – [treated as sing. or pl. ] the main means of mass communication (esp. television, radio, newspapers, and the Internet) regarded collectively : [as adj. ] the campaign won media attention.
JP the fact that President Reagan granted amnesty without also following through on the second part of the plan, which was to secure our borders to prevent further illegal immigration, is what started us down this path of rewarding law breakers by granting amnesty to those entering illegally, while penalizing those complying with the law by reducing the numbers allowed and creating excessive waiting timeframes to be granted permission to legally emigrate.
I agree Berta that the 2nd portion is what could have kept some from coming here, nothing is perfect. We now find ourselves in a position again where logically we cannot deport all the illegals and there needs to be a plan put into place that actually secures the borders better, nothing is perfect.
On a separate note I find it interesting how many Hispanic in America are identifying themselves as Native American racially.
JP the solutions are much simpler than you indicate. Since President Obama wants to expand government anyway and we have high unemployment: Train and hire more Americans as Coast Guard, Border Patrol, National Guard, civilian patrols, etc to secure and patrol all of our borders which solves issues with border security and high unemployment. Once borders are secure, immediately deport all criminal illegal aliens. Require the use of e-verify by all employers, severely fine employers hiring illegals and seize business of repeat offenders, deny benefits of any kind including a free education and Dream Act incentives, Medical so they cannot come here expressly to have their children born at taxpayer expense, to anyone from anywhere in the country illegally. Further, deny automatic birthright citizenship unless at least one biological parent is legally in the USA. Just doing those things will encourage millions to self deport since we will have cut off all of the freebies and incentives to enter the USA illegally. After all of those have been implemented, you deport whomever has foolishly remained here after having sent an unmistakable message to all foreign nationals and their governments our borders and are laws will be respected and protected.
As a final suggestion, I believe we should send the countries allowing and encouraging illegal immigrants to come to the USA in violation of our sovereign borders, like Mexico, a bill for the expenses incurred by American taxpayers for deporting and repatriating their citizens. Let Félipe Calderón and the rest complain but it should give them pause before providing any more GPS units or maps on how to cross the desert and enter the USA illegally. We can even put all of those out of work “immigration” advocates and attorneys working for a percentage of the total due that they can recover and get them chasing down those reimbursement payments from all of these foreign governments.
I do not think my suggestions are harsh but instead common sense and long overdue. I am fed up with the existing situation and so are millions of others.
