Joe Kapp, still swingin’ at 74: an SCVTalk-as-TMZ moment

Joe Kapp, who in pre-Twlight days held the position for decades as SCV’s most famous son, is making a run at the title again at the age of 74. It isn’t enough that he quarterbacked in a Rose Bowl, a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl. He’s now a genuine 21st Century celebrity as the star of a very bizarre viral video.

At at CFL benefit luncheon in Vancouver last week, he welcomed CFL legend and former pro wrestler Angelo Mosca, 73, with an olive branch (literally). I’m not up on their history, but I’m going to guess it isn’t so rosy. Watch what happens:

This video is getting pulled left and right, so I’ll update the link once it finds a permanent home. In case you can’t see it, Mosca swats Kapp’s olive branch away and Kapp responds by slapping his arm. Mosca then rises to his feet and starts swinging his cane at Kapp. Old Joe then takes down the ex-wrestler with a flurry of punches, sending him off the stage.

  1. Capt. Gene says:

From what I heard their history goes back to 1963, and some pass or call that these gummers have been upset about since then.

    • Phil Ellis says:

Last night’s news said something about Mosca’s hit on one of Joe’s team mates

    • Timothy Myers SR says:

Angelo had a long reputation as a dirty player in the CFL, and after his career ended he became a “bad guy” professional wrestler.

Some people think this was staged, but I don’t think so. Joe, who is obviously in better shape than Angelo, puts him off the stage with a few punches after the can hit.

I like the term “gummers.” Permission to use and abuse this term?

    Nice right hook.

And in breaking news, Herman Cain’s hormonal urges knock him off the Presidential Hopeful Stage…… Petz? Anyone?

    • Capt. Gene says:

It didn’t seem to hurt Clinton, what do you suppose makes Cain different?

      • Mike says:

You need to spread the news of the scandals across time, I suppose ;)

Real talk: there isn’t anything Cain has been accused of that seems more serious or more credible than something Clinton was accused of – at this stage in their respective scandals.

      • Mike says:

Let’s be clear, it *hurt* Clinton, but it didn’t sink him. The effect of a scandal is always proportionate to the political mass and inertia of the politician and campaign. Clinton took a major hit after the Gennifer Flowers story .

This will *hurt* Cain as well, but since he isn’t flying so high as it is, it could sink him. I say 60/40 he drops out or is a Santorum/Huntsman-level non-factor by Christmas.

        • mikec says:

Also, correct me if Im wrong…but Clinton during the primary only had Jennifer Flowers come out? Whereas, Cain has 4 or 5 women, plus the confidential settlement….Also, it hasn’t had any effect on Newt…

      • Mike says:

Also, there are things that damage politicians more when we know less about them. The Gennifer Flowers news mattered more to Clinton’s standing than the Lewinski scandal. People take in early information in a “what does this say about the kind of President he will be” kind of way. Once you already know what kind of President someone will be (for better or worse), it takes something more to move the needle as much.

Difference. Clinton was already in office not trying to get in elected for office.

        • Capt. Gene says:

          So then it’s all good.

        • Mike says:

Clinton had allegations both during the campaign and while in office – so many that when the Lewinsky thing broke, many people felt that adultery was already baked in the cake. You either made your peace years before or it was another thing to holler about.

Just trying to put it in perspective. There are 999 other reasons not to vote for Herman Cain.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 8

      • Mr Perez says:

The difference is Herman is running as a Conservative Republican and not a God-less Liberal Democrat. I could care less about his affairs since I am not married to him but don’t support his bid for President for so many other reasons.

Petz is riding the Cain Train until it comes off the tracks . They built a monument in DC to MLK.

      WTF?

    • Angelo Candelabra says:

It was over for Herman Cain three weeks ago. His personal baggage notwithstanding, Herman Cain is thoroughly unprepared and unqualified to competently serve as President of the United States. It is a shame the best Republican candidates (Jeb Bush and John Thune) chose not to run.

Thumb up 4 Thumb down 5

    • Mr Perez says:

So either you are voting for Romney, President Obama, or you are staying away on Election Day since those are the only 3 options.

And you can ride that train all you want to since it is about to derail and hopefully they gave you a refund.

There was most definately a reason Hermey was concerned about Sharia in America, mainly being how adulterers are dealt with :P

The story is about a couple of old guys in a fight! Then the same guys come along and derail the thread to say the same thing they have said over and over again. Please take your political banter to the appropriate thread! Thanks in advance for SingTFU.
