When my friend's car died, she asked me to help her buy a new one. Because she liked the Honda Civic, we went to the local dealer in Valencia and were met by Dagmar, in new car sales. Dagmar was totally up front about everything. She went right to the heart of the matter and explained the price first -- Civics were $1,000 BELOW invoice. A good credit rating would net you an incredibly low interest rate. It was so refreshing not to have to play the usual game where you select a car, get attached to it, and then go "crunch some numbers." It's truly a buyers' market out there. Oh - they have good coffee there, too, with about 8 brews from which to choose.

It's especially a good time to buy now before April 1, when the sales tax goes up.

I also had a positive experience at Honda on Magic Mountain, though we ultimately decided to go with a Subaru.

YOu're out of touch Alpiner. Subarus are what all the cool kids drive. The models today are sporty, well built, reliable, and above all safe. They are ideal for the young adult/30 something with an active lifestyle.

Did you Subaru was the only major car manufacturer to grow last year? And while GM/Ford/Chrysler/Toyota/Honda saw their sales dive 29% in the first two months of this year, Subaru's gained 4%

But by all means, continue to roll your eyes at my vehicle choice *shrug*

Nice to see Honda wants SCV'ers business.  BMW and Mercedes does not.  My wife wants a new car and we went to Acura, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Infinity and other misc that she did not like.  The folks at Merc said that business was great and they did not have many in the model we were looking at.  They came off price a little but did not offer any type of deal for lease.  BMW was worse.  The salesman was nice enough. I explained that I know how to buy a car and I am not interested in playing games.  I told him to go get me his best price.  He came back with a monster number.  He went off the sticker price of the car.  We walked out out and I laughed out loud when he showed me the deal.  The next day the Sunday Times came to the house and we saw plenty of deals in SFV and LA.  Good Luck SCV.  We were a sure sale if offered a true deal.

I've known of more than a few people who were willing to buy at Valencia BMW, only to get lies and exaggerated numbers.  1% of the purchase price of a car goes to the city, but you easily pay more than that with any car you buy locally vs elsewhere.

When I bought my 2nd new Saturn last February, I drove all the way to Palmdale to their Saturn dealership.  Customer service is very important to me and that is why that dealership was worth the drive.  That is where I got my last Saturn 5 years ago.

I drive there for service too, (which thank goodness isn't very often), but I really enjoy the people at that dealership.  They are genuinely nice...not just a facade.

It's about time that all dealerships realize how important the customer is, because we are the ones that pay their salary.

Frontier Toyota is the worst. The one and only time I went there, the sales person wouldn't even quote a price. He had to go find a manager. They keep you waiting forever and ever over everything. One friend called and had a pizza delivered to the dealership for herself at about the 4 hour mark!

And if they ever get their hands on the keys to your trade in, you'll probably have to walk home, because you'll never see them again. It's their way of holding you hostage.

I guess they get stuck in a routine... they have been so used to having to string someone along that now that there's no reason for people to buy, they don't know what to do.

My car is 7 years old... I'd love to replace it, but instead, I had a bunch of work done on it so it will still run, because a) there's no car or truck out there that makes me want to buy it and b) the dealers STILL aren't making good deals.
