Petz recommends the Astroscan telescope for purchase during the Christmas season. This telescope is versatile-portable-and affordable. Easy to use and travel with-it's design is like a magnet at Star parties. The Astrscan can safely project images of the Sun to a crowd. A real sweet package for Astronomers at any level of experience.

Oh man, that takes me back. Some of my fondest memories as a small child were looking at stars and planets with my Dad through our family's Astroscan.

I needed to post a blog about my favorite Edmund product as part of a contest. This really is my favorite telescope for public viewing because it is so cute and practical. No problems with alignment - tracking etc. The scope does not care if a crumb crunchers grabs the eyepiece and gives it a spinThe design is Newtonian and really opens up the heavens for observation. Solar observation of sunspots by a group is very easy. Glad someone enjoyed the post.

I never have had one, but have investigated getting one on several occasions. I always seemed to end up looking at the Astroscan. Never quite pulled the trigger.
Good to see it has the "Petz Seal of Approval."

I thought this might be a great gift for a family friend of mine, but alas it is backordered every site I found.

That should be a good recommendation for it.

I was able to make a telephone order with Edmund Scientific (thier site kept crashing on me). So I went old school and called. They even gift wrap for $4.99 lol. The only hitch is a 30 day return policy. By my calculations that puts me 10 days before Christmas. So I hope your recommendation holds up Petz or I'll be wanting $300 bucks in Bier Acadamy.

I don’t think so. I tried, but the online ordering system would error out when I checked out so I gave up and called.

The sun viewing screen is a great value for enhancing the utility of the telescope. There is a once in our lifetime transit of Venus in June 2012-and this will be a must have item for that event. http://www.scientificsonline.com/checkout/cart/

How did the Astroscan workout. Our club will be at Vasquez Rocks on Friday.

My friends were thrilled. They have two young children and their Dad is a math/science nerd so I am sure they will make good use of it. Unfortunately they live in Colorado so they can’t make the Vasquez event.
