Joe resigned his position today as the VP of baseball operations for MLB to pursue buying the LA Dodgers with a group of others headed by Rick Caruso (a developer).
I figure this is a serious move so I am keeping my fingers crossed as I highly respect Torre and I like this a whole lot better than the prospect of the Magic Johnson group. Of course Hershiser and Garvey are sentimental favorites, but I think Joe would be a great leader to the team.
Bids are due by January 23rd so if you want a piece of the Dodgers you might assemble your $800+ millions and make your move.
YAY! JOE!

Yes, this would be an appropriate use of kumbaya.

I have no interest whatsoever in having a Skankee in charge. Other than when he was in charge of the overspending Skankees he rarely had an impressive record as a manager.

Funny, I seem to recall him taking us to the playoffs and winning the western division two of his 3 years. Being as how he grew up in Brooklyn when the Dodgers were still there... I'm gonna go ahead and say he's a good guy to be part owner of the team.

Because he lived in Brooklyn makes him a good Dodger?
Actually, it appears he grew up a Giants fan.
Well then, that he'd abandon allegiance for the Hated Ones, that speaks even more. Continue to hate on him, but I think he's a good fit. So far, all of the potential owners who have outed themselves are a much better fit that McCourt turned out to be. Now that I hear Roy Disney's heirs want in, I'm even more excited. The only thing I don't want is Time Warner or Fox owning the team again. That ain't right.

You must think that allegiances can be changed much easier than I do.
I'm with you on the cable thing. I don't think that would fly well with the fans after Fox.

Do we have any sort of track record of these celebrity partners actually making a difference in the way the team is run, in the long term? It seems to me, the team's future makeup and the fans' experience (at the stadium and elsewhere) is much more a function of who writes the checks.
To that end, you want an independently wealthy owner who wants to win and make money, with an emphasis on the former. A guy who will use his gut to make a big acquisition, yet still keep the team afloat.
From a fan's perspective, publicaly-owned company is just about the worst fit, only slightly better than an over-leveraged fool like McCourt.
